You may have to call their intercom to enter through the gate if they are not currently hosting an event. When you first visit, go to the reception office for an intro about the monastery and their activities. You can join their regularly scheduled meditation classes and dharma classes. The building to the left of that is where they hold Buddhist classes and talks. To the left of that is a small hill and walking nature loop to see a Kuan Yin statue placed within a circular, eight petaled lotus mandala. The walk has beautiful views of the surrounding distance. Down towards the right is the temple, which is only open to the public during events. They recently finished some renovations inside their main temple and outside gardens. The gardens behind and below the temple opens to expansive views too, yet is still undergoing construction. You can see a small pagoda with a Kuan Yin statue and a rectangle platform with a statue of the Buddha. Inside the temple, it is common etiquette to remove your shoes, place them in a shoe cabinet along the wall, and wear socks inside (no bare feet allowed here) during events. There are bathrooms and a water station too. I joined a recent Friday meditation gathering and it was nicely organized and run very well. They have a welcoming sangha community too.

Keep in mind I am half Indian and half Chinese, so I don't outwardly look Indian. My boyfriend is from El Salvador, so he doesn't look Indian either. And, we are both 19. But we have gone to multiple Gurdwaras with my dad, who is Indian. And, the Gurdwara is supposed to be welcoming to all people. He had a lot of good things to say about the temple, so we decided to check it out ourselves. We went in and gave our respects, prayed, and donated to the temple. All meanwhile wearing decent clothing, and covering our heads. We then went to Langar to get food. We both washed our hands prior to eating which is something we always do before eating, to be respectful. We grab food and everything is find until we go to grab chai. We both get up after eating and head towards the table to get cups, but then we were stopped by the men and the cook saying that we had to go wash our hands again between every meal. This is not standard, and they all started shouting at us to wash our hands again. Keep in mind, the men in there were grabbing rounds of food and chai without washing their hands before every time they grabbed food. In Gurdwara we show our respect by washing our hands before eating, but no need to wash our hands over and over. And, this is what the men were asking us. We walk out to wash our hands then leave because we were feeling unwanted and targeted at a Sikh temple which is supposed to welcome everyone. As I am very anxious, I was trying to gather myself in the bathroom, but one of the Sikh men started talking to my boyfriend. He was explaining their practices to him, and we didn't argue because we did not want to create a scene in a holy place like the Temple. But the Sikh man constantly said that we had to wash our hands between every meal, which I know is not true from going to around 5 other Gurdwaras with my dad. We then felt too uncomfortable and left and my boyfriend was on his way to grab my bag from the eating area. As he was walking to grab my bag, one of the Sikh men that was also in the eating area asked him "Is that your girlfriend?" And my boyfriend replied yes, and then the Sikh man proceeded to say "She is very sexy, nice" with a thumbs up. How disgusting is this to say in general let alone the Temple! This was beyond disgusting and inappropriate. This is sexual harassment. But, nothing is said to this man huh? Nothing is said to the Indian man but instead the two foreign looking people who were being respectful the whole time. I have never felt more uncomfortable. As my boyfriend then tried to keep his cool after the Indian man said that comment, not wanting to start a scene; the Sikh men tried to convince me and my boyfriend to stay after being treated so unkindly. But we hurried and left quickly. This was the worst experience I have ever had anywhere. I would not recommend anyone is not Indian to go. You will be treated like and outsider and be targeted by all the men and workers there. Nonetheless, if you are a woman do not go alone. I am glad I had my boyfriend was there so they wouldn't try anything on me. Don't even go if your are half Indian because you will not be treated with respected or decency. It's so disappointing to see a Gurdwara like this that is so unwelcoming to anyone that doesn't look Indian. Sikhism is a welcoming religion, and the people volunteering at this temple are clearly not being welcoming. I have never encountered this at any other Gurdwara, but that is probably because I have gone with my dad who does looking Indian. So disgusting how the people treat new comers at this temple. I wouldn't recommend this temple to anyone. And if you are a woman, don't come alone unless you want to be subjected. It's not worth the chance coming to this Gurdwara knowing that you might encounter people like this working there. I have also seen another review of a woman coming here, and have to say that coming here to solely just eat is completely disrespectful and rude. But, the harassment she faced here regarding sexual assault and sexual comments said towards her is not surprising to me knowing how my visit here was. And the fact that they also told her to wash her hands between every meal. If you are going to be enforcing rules, make sure they are enforced to EVERYONE. Be careful going here. I would never recommend it to anyone. Go to any other Gurdwara.

So.. today I visited and attended Jummah prayer at Masjid Al Rahman aka Islamic Society of West…read moreContra Costa County (ISWCCC)- Masjid. I called before I went trying to figure out when Jummah prayer was so I didn't show up super early.. but low and behold.. the auto message just addressed when Ramadan might be starting because the Moon needs to be sighted visually.. and if it decided to hide on the 22nd of August.. then Ramadan starts the next day- InshaAllah. The masjid is located right off San Pablo Ave kind of across from the strip mall that has Big Lots in it. Super easy to find.. just turn on Lowell from San Pablo and the masjid should be on your right hand side. So I showed up at like 12:30ish and found the women's section of the masjid wasn't even open yet! The Khutbh didn't start until 1:20 and the actual Jummah prayer at 2pm. Some nice brothers( MashaAllah) who were already at the Masjid cooking away in the kitchens opened the door for me and I was able to get inside. Once I entered I noticed- two things.. the shoe rack and the sign saying - take your shoes off- so we can keep the new carpet clean. To the left hand side of the entrance from the parking lot is the bathroom- which I didn't have time to investigate yet- so watch for the potential update on the bathroom situation. I wandered around the masjid.. I noticed that there were classrooms for Saturday Islamic school, shoe rack and another entrance to the masjid just for women before entering the actual prayer area. The women's prayer area is a separate room with no visual at all into the main prayer hall. The only way to get information is through the speaker - that Alhumdualillah actually is working loud and clear. The prayer area has a nice rug with the prayer lines woven in and a nice built in storage unit on the far wall across from the main entrance stuffed with Qur'ans, dawah materials, prayer rugs and prayer outfits. Although why anyone would need a prayer rug with the soft high level carpet on in the prayer area is beyond me. The women's community was made up from a casual glance of a majority of Pakistani and Arab individuals. The khutbah was in English then in Arabic with announcements in between. Some of the announcements were very direct- such as stop talking during the khutbah... directed at the women and again directed at the women- children should be put to the side while praying.. so as prevent holes in the rows of women as they prayed. I think there was a level of tack and diplomacy lacking in some of these announcements- but if talking to individuals doesn't create change.. I guess a Jummah announcement might. InshaAllah I will visited again.. now that I know this Masjid exists and is located close by my house.. I can't wait for Ramadan and the iftars with the different sections of the communities.

According to the individuals I talked to because their isn't enough space and no separate wudu area for the women. This is a violation of the women's right to attend the masjid for prayer- thus earning this masjid- one star. I am severely disappointed in this masjid- as I was looking forward to attending Jummah and having another masjid I could access within a 10 minute drive of my house. The masjid offers Jummah- khutbah at 1:50- Prayer at 2pm. Also during the blessed month of Ramadan they offer Tarweeh - again both of these are limited to men only. InshaAllah- this community will expand its masjid to the women. Ameen.

Come and see for yourself…read more Wat Chaimongkol is well known by supporting from the people in different locations such as Bay areas, Fairfield, San Francisco and etc. Later on, June 25, 2009 is regarded as the best auspicious day of the time 9 A.M. and 9 minutes. All monks officially moved in living until now. Nowadays, Wat Chaimongkol is also officially acknowledged as a member of Assembly of Thai Monks organization so that it is a legal institutation in both secular and religious views. The total area of the current place is nearly a half of an acre with two buildings. In the big building with 2,422 sq. ft., there are 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 reception room, 1 kitchen room and 1 dining room. In the small building with 900 sq.ft. there are 2 bedrooms 1 store-room and a 2 car garage. The space between two buildings is suitable for doing activities. Moreover, there is a large area at the front suitable for 10 cars parking excluded from the area of main road and than of informal education school.
