We have been going to the temple for past 30years. We love the ambience and authenticity in the way it's built. The deities are beautiful. The priests are knowledgeable. Many also speak multiple Indian languages catering to all devotees. However, my recent visit after the new year left me with a bad impression due to the way one priest behaved. He was trying to put the poles to streamline people which is understandable. The temple was not crowded but given it was post new year there was a constant flow of devotees. This priest was yelling and screaming, completely disrespectful to the devotees. He was so loud that we could not even hear the priests chanting of the Archana. He completely ruined the sanctity of the temple. The same task could have been done in many different ways, without having to yell and scream and spoil the devotees experience. I hope this is not something that will be repeated, for I would love to go back for a peaceful visit. read more

This temple is in a residential area and extremely quiet and peaceful. We went twice in the past week and both days were holidays and it was not too crowded. I had a wonderful darshan - my favorite part was the amazing smell of camphor and incense which added to the sense of serenity. After my wonderful visit to the temple, both times I found that was Prasad/ food being served ( vegetable pulao and korma and also some heart warming curd rice) I would highly recommend visiting the temple. read more

My beloved and I went to the Shiva-Vishnu Temple in Livermore recently. I have spent over three years in India doing extensive travels there and am working on my third memoir due soon about my adventures in India. I deeply connect with the spirituality of India so was delighted to go here with my girlfriend recently. It felt like being in the temples of India and awesome it is right in the Bay Area. I have been to Tirumala in South India where the wish granting Vishnu aka Lord Balaji is and had a powerful experience there. So now that I live in San Francisco it is so awesome to have a India temple experience right here. Besides the Lord Balaji murti there were many other deities here so appreciated the diversity. Folks were friendly and energy was full power like in India. Recommended for those into Indian culture, spirituality, and wanting to dive deeper into the yogic path. We will be back! read more

This review is for priests and temple staff This template has the laziest priests and they rude on the face. Not sure how they got hired and landed in this country, they come with lot of prejudice and do not treat all the devotees equally. Coming to the temple staff, the big temple management committee they have - they simply suck and are corrupted to the core. We had a very bad experience with the temple committee on a festival day. They have no manners and use foul language to the devotees in the temple premises. Complained on their website regarding the same and the committee staff is still part of the temple management that says the system is corrupted there. I mean if your staff has no ethical behavior, how can devotees trust the temple and the way you run the system. Never going back to this temple. read more

I've seen this temple grow since 1988. They used to have priests that were devotee friendly. The temple is still a good temple. But the priests are the worst - rude and greedy. We've been going to the temple since 2004, when we moved to California. Unfortunately, we have a seen a consistent decline in the standard of priests. It's sad to see the temple I used to love going to turn into an unwelcoming place. This review is not for the temple itself, but for the snack store located within its office. I purchased some snacks from this store, and noticed that none of them had ingredient labels. When I asked for a list of ingredients, the man at the counter began making excuses instead of providing the information I requested. Upon my second request, he started making statements that didn't make any sense, likely due to his uncertainty. Rather than indulging in such unprofessional and discourteous behavior, he could have simply informed me that he didn't have the information at the moment but would get back to me with the details later. Being a part of the temple is irrelevant, it still sells food items. The importance of displaying ingredients cannot be undermined, as many people have varying food allergies that could pose a risk to their health. I hope they familiarize themselves with and adhere to county guidelines on food safety. read more

He genuinely loved this temple and enjoyed the prasadam they served so much that he exulted, "this is the best temple in the world!". He would refer to this temple as "Big Temple". From the outside, this temple replicates the beauty and grandeur of temples in India. On the inside, it does justice to the beliefs and aspirations of a country with thousands of Gods.We all look similar, however, we worship different Gods and in this temple you will be able to find your Isht(favorite) devta(god). As you enter, you will see a row of different popular deities including Durga, Aiyappa, Ganesha, Shiva, Vishnu, Ram,Lakshman Sita, Subramanya, Navagrahas,Bhoodevi/Parvathi,Lakshmi. After paying obeisance to all or a few of the gods you like, you can complete your darshan by sitting down in the large hall facing the dieties or do pradakshinas (circle) the dieties or a combination of both. Very very peaceful. Okii so lemme start with the parking. Theres parking spot in front of the temple and also beside it. Weekends are uaually the most busy during the day. But whenever i have went, it was easy ti find a parking. You do need to leave ur shoes outside, theres a proper place to place ur shoes which is in the building beside the temple. What i do is when i get out of the car, i dont wear my shoes. Coz may as well. Before entering the temple there is a tap outside for you to wash ur feet and sprinke water on u. As you enter inside the temple the sounds of bells and hymns surround you and it feels really good. Theres little temples inside. What people do is start from the left and move towards the right (clockwise). Everythin is at ur own pace. You wana sit there for a little bit, u can. If you want to offer food or fruits to the gods, the priests will be more than happy to do that for u. We also do our yearly pooja here. So if you are interested just call the temple, chose a priest and pick a date. All the things that you need is given on the website, but you can always cal the priest and ask them to give you the list. These are the best priests ever. They will answer any question you have so nicely. So to do the pooja i think u need to pay 100 somethin at the office and the priests never ask you for thr fees, you can pay them whatever you can afford. After you have done darshan at the temple. From the back door you can enter the dining area and they have self serve prashaad. This place is really peaceful. Ohhh festivals can get really busy. Especially new years i feel is the busiest day of the year. read more

Horrible temple. They cheat a lot and only certain people get special treatment here. They will take sponsorship from you but won't do it. We were caught by surprise and when discussed with office manager he had such an attitude and didn't treat us with respect. Everyone lied in different way. They took money from us for a sponsorship and never delivered it. Very bad experience and many friends shared the same. So pls stay away from this temple. Under the name of temple they are doing only business and only certain set of people get special treatment. Nothing here goes to god. We gave for Abhishekam and they didn't even do sankalpam or gave any prasad. They took money from us for vastram but didn't wear it as someone special they know gave another vastram for that day. They didn't even apologize the manger guy in temple thinks he is some CEO or something and had a bad attitude no respect for people here. They charged us hefty. Throughout the time we were there, we came across only hustlers (including priests) trying to take money from us for some sponsorship or other. Couldn't even get proper dharsan of god. The priest here treat you differently if you give money vs not even while giving theertham they won't give you unless u pay them. I called this temple to schedule a car pooja and essentially it was super hard to hear the woman, she said everything was on the website (it wasn't), and she clearly did not want to give me any information. What a waste of time and so NOT upholding or displaying any Hindu values. This is our first time we were visiting this temple. At first we came a day earlier but unfortunately they were closed so we came the next morning. There were some rules because of Covid19 so we were confused how to do darshan. There were couple of staff standing there no one helped us. Then we went to one of the Panditjee and he said to take off the shoes at admin building and we can do darshan by the door because of the covid restriction. The admin door was closed so we decided to take off the shoe in our car. After that we went to do darshan and was standing by the door as per the instruction from the Panditjee. Then suddenly a very RUDE TALL OLD INDIAN GUY WITH WHITE HAIR came and started shouting at us to get out. Omg i was in complete shock. We explained him that one of the Panditjee told us we can do darshan by the door. We were literally standing at the door. We didn't go inside. Then he agained shouted at us to get out from but i saw one lady was doing darshan from inside. That guy even shouted at one of the Panditjee who was working inside the temple.I dont know whats the name of that guy but that dude seriously needs to learn some manner and treat other nicely and speak politely. This incident happened on 12/03/2020 at around 10:45 am. If someone know this guy please show him this review and ask him to take some classes where he can learn how to be polite. read more

Priests are super busy! Seriously? Who are not busy right? They do not even call back, do not respond to voice mails. It looks like the process of booking a priest for service is horrible. Step #1: Get priest phone number by calling temple service Step #2: Call the priest. I am sure you never get them in the first attempt. Keep calling..... Step #3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 Step #4: Call temple service to book an appointment People who have short time schedule shall get hard time to get the priest. It's an absolute delight to visit this Temple in foreign land which sweetly reminds me of my worship days at one-in-many of my favorite & regularly visited Southern Indian temples back in country. It's probably because of the beautiful & prominently visible 'Gopura' of the temple (a monumental tower usually at the entrance of South Indian temples) that takes me back to my good old memories. Every time being at Shiva - Vishnu Temple Livermore gives me so much pleasure & inner peace. Been here many times and have always found the place to be well maintained, neat & organized. The Pujaris or Archakas (Priests) adheres to the strict hindu cultural values & disciplines. They are sincere, courteous & helpful. Even during festival days, the temple priests and authorities manages the huge crowd efficiently. There have been not a single time where I've felt difficult or cumbersome with the temple rules or experienced any chaotic situation during busy days. It's almost a 40 year old establishment (incorporated in 1977) and no wonder they give the best service to their devotees. The deities in the main temple are: Ganesha, Shiva, Parvati, Kartikeya, Sridevi (Lakshmi), Vishnu, Bhoodevi, Radha-Krishna, Rama-Sita, Navagraha, Hanuman, Kalabhairava, and Dashbhuja Durga. Offering heartfelt prayers to all the Gods & Goddesses just gives me a strong energy, a complete positive vibration that's felt far beyond the simple words. During my recent visit with the hubby and friends, we were blessed to see the Ekanta Seva (the last ritual among the daily sevas). During this seva, Lord Srinivasa/ Vishnu is put to celestial sleep by singing lallabiees. It was quite wonderful to witness the seva, do stay few minutes longer during closing hours to enjoy this bliss. Truth in advertizing: I'm an Episcopal priest not Hindu. That said, I really enjoy the Shiva-Vishnu temple. Often, far too often, those of us from different traditions assume the worst of other, judging, poking fun, condemning...it's bad news. However, those with an open mind and heart will be delighted by the Shiva-Vishnu temple. I found it welcoming, generous, and delightful. Food shared with Shiva was given to me and I even received a blessing. While the hours here are limited, the opportunities to learn and engage are not. I will be back! read more

We we received a gracious and warm welcome which was very appreciated. Many of us have not spent much to outside of our own faith practices and were a little apprehensive from the moment we removed our shoes! I was personally honored to meet the esteemed T.K. Subramanian, a retired nuclear scientist from the prestigious Lawrence- Livermore National Laboratory. and his lovely, (and quite witty:) wife, Subadra. This temple is almost an exact replica of the temple in Malibu, CA. I love this temple. The ladies were super nice. They set me up with an online account. Sometimes, they ask questions that I have to call my mom about. Like what's my star? Gotra? I have no idea. I just follow my parents/grandparents when I'm at the temple. But now that I'm on my own up here in the Bay Area, this temple definitely felt like home. When I walked into the mandir, the priest signaled with his hand for me to come inside. Then he performed the abishekum (sp?). It was a beautiful ceremony. I even felt my grandparents' presence. Everything is clean too! Shoe area, bathrooms, etc. And the best for last? The rice, shira, ladoos, everything were SO GOOD! The ladoos are bigger than my head. They even put fried red chilies in the rice. Typical, South Indian food. I loved it. I wonder how their sambar is. I have yet to try everything. I would love to get married here. It's way easier to find the temple than it is to find a groom... read more

It's a bit in the middle of nowhere but this temple is fairly well managed. The premises are clean, there's plenty of parking (and there's an overflow across the street as well). Shoe racks and restrooms are well organized and clean. For those who care there is a Balaji, Ganesha, Shiva, Lakshmi, & Murugan idols. Both the Shiva & Balaji idols do their own archana's (an idol worship ceremony runs on the hour 5:30pm, 6:30pm...). You can get a $7 ticket from the office for a special archana's. I visited temple today and wanted to offer home made food to my beloved deity, however the volunteers who are supposedly doing service behaving like agent of deity. She stopped me to offer the food and asked to put it next to donation box, which i felt was very disrespectful. I have seen similar type of behavior from priests also in past, whenever i went to offer the food to deity, they always asked me to do it through the priest and give him the fee in the form of donation. I had stopped visiting the temple because of same reason, now today after a long time I visited and found myself in similar situation but by volunteers. I would rather visit Fremont Hindu Temple on Delaware drive, where iI have not faced this type of situation ever. I have been visiting the Fremont Temple since last 15 years. read more

One of the biggest, if not the very biggest, Hindu temples in the Bay Area. I like the fact that this is located towards the central part of the Bay Area, too, making it relatively accessible for those coming from up north (towards Berkeley/SF area). I have been going to this temple for many years, since the days of childhood. Lots of great memories attending and participating in various cultural programs, going to Balaji Abhishekam/Balaji Archana, visiting all the sanctums, doing pradakshinams (rounds), and of course, having the wonderful vegetarian prasad afterwards. The priests are very knowledgeable and helpful, and have often helped out my family with various functions we needed them for. They have done a lot of expansions and renovations since the initial days I started going. I am impressed with the improvements that have been done, and look forward to continuing to visit. read more

It's a very beautiful temple and we love coming here when we do. However, for the vast resources the temple has, the place needs organization & needs a touch of personal for us to celebrate our special relationship with god & to create the feel goodness of visiting a temple. We wanted do a Hanuman archana for our new baby just 3 weeks old - we were told it was straightforward and to come after 10:30 to get it done. We did that only to find out that archanas are called out loud - & if we missed that, that's that. The priest rudely told us he's done with it and can't be done. We finally got to do it with Durga Devi. We were happy in the end but for a busy Saturday - the place needs to be less chaotic and better organized. read more
