Quiet, spacious, beautiful, clean, and great customer service. The sites are large and have great grass for you and your pups to enjoy. Summit has a higher altitude than other places in South Dakota so it has perfect summer weather, a few degrees cooler than everyone else and a light breeze to make it perfect. The owners Larry and Gilda are the best. They do so much to make all their guest feel at home. And they are great community members as well. Let's face it the town is small and doesn't have a lot to offer outside of fishing and hunting, but Larry and Gilda keep the store stocked with essentials and keep you informed about thing going on the in the area. This year they even started an Ice Cream Truck and let me tell you the Ice Cream is Fabulous! People come from all around for tasty treats. They also host a weekly music jam session. Most of the players are locals that are wonderful players but campers who are passing through also join in. All playing levels are encourage to join in. I am a beginning player and they welcomed me in. Each week playing with this great group has made me a better player. An added bonus they built a Dollar General this summer right on Hwy 12 where you turn to go into Summit. It is sure an added bonus to be able to get those needed items without having to drive. I highly suggest you stop over here for a night or more you won't be sorry.

We took our 3 young kids here (8,6,3) and had a great stay in the Rose Garden room. The place is immaculate. The house is a historical feature in itself and one of the individual's from Laura's books owned it. Melissa Gilbert even stayed here while in town. The owners are fabulous and welcoming of kids. The entire front wrap around porch has toys waiting for the kids- sounds tacky but it's not- still clean and lovely. But if staying in a lovely, historical house isn't enough, the breakfast is above all expectations! I had ordered the pancake man for the kids breakfast choice and had wanted to read that part of the story for the kids...couldn't find it in the books or scrambling online. Well at our beautiful little breakfast room, our host Andy brought over one of the books opened to the section about that- they read my mind!!! We sat down to fresh fruit, pink china - which my girls loved- it felt like a fancy tea! They had Ingalls trivia on the table and a CD of Pa's fiddle music playing. I had the chocolate Belgian waffle with strawberries and my husband had an omelette- both we're fantastic. Oh and choose the ham! It's wonderful. One note of caution- Hotwire and orbitz and like companies may show this hotel as full. It did for us but when we called they had rooms- even the one we wanted! So make sure you call them directly. This is soooo worth the money for a visit to DeSmet...made the whole experience extra special.

Had some work coming up and while looking on the web for a place to stay, nothing seemed appealing until I found the Lady on the Lake Bed and Breakfast. Unique, mesmerizing and historic house. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the absolute amazing breakfast, it's really good and feels like it's made from the heart! My second week here, and if I would of staying longer for work, than I definitely would return here!

My arrival was a bit stress because we were late (thankfully the host was so kind to wait for us) and everything was closed. Actually we went to one open pub but they didn't have service. We were tired and hungry from the long ride, couldn't pull over to eat or else, we'd be more late. I was hoping for evening refreshments or snacks like the last bnb we stayed at, although we didn't need it because there was a restaurant open nearby. Then we need it this night but nothing was offered at this bnb. :/ Still, the hosts were kind to let us in late (10pm) and take us up to our warm family suite. It was a bit warm but nothing we can't handle. We were able to rest up a bit in the living room before checking out at 11. Breakfast was decent- waffles and eggs with sausage. It would be nice to have a side of fruit bowl or more drink options but we did have their scones and they were delicious. I would definitely return if we are ever in the area again. If only we live much closer too!

Happened upon this B&B while doing a quick drive-around town, ready to see all of the Ingalls…read moresites. $90 for one of the smaller rooms (double bed and a pull-out twin) includes breakfast. Hang on...this is a mere $10 more than a rather miserable looking hotel in town. I'll take it! This place is a knockout. Typical small town corner building completely remodeled - and remodeled well - to be a B&B. High ceilings...old time feel...nice furnishings. I loved the spacious salon / dining room. Would be nice when the fire is lit. Only thing missing, and this might be a seasonal / regional thing, is a decanter of sherry for the guests. That's always a warm touch. Our room was very comfortable. The bed was good and the bathroom - shower only - had all we needed tucked away in a cabinet. Cute faux fireplace. Kim is an attentive but not intrusive host. The breakfast for our visit was French Toast with sausage and fresh fruit. It was fine, but here is where an otherwise excellent place falls a tad short. B&Bs are more of a pampering event. Cream for the coffee should not be skim or 1% milk. Syrup should be genuine maple syrup. French Toast should be made with a dense quality bread...maybe with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg...not just plain fried because that's pretty flavorless if you're avoiding the "syrup." HOWEVER...the fruit mix was exceptional. Best I've ever had. Every single bite was heaven. Would I return? Absolutely. It was a lovely stay. Wish we'd had more time to hang out downstairs. It's just nice to sit in a lovely room. DeSmet is a very small town with seemingly only the Ingalls attraction to draw people from afar but still...there's something charming about it. The people are exceptionally friendly.
