Ogunquit beach has a very gradual slope which makes it perfect for long walks - you don't get the feeling that you are walking on a slant. It's absolutely gorgeous, with large sandy expanses, especially at low tide. There are often flocks of sandpipers, which I love to watch as they run so quickly over the sand and search for food. Ogunquit Beach is especially nice in the off season - the crowd spreads out over the area so you never feel as if people are on top of you like you might in the peak season. There is a parking lot that is free from November-March, and you can also easily walk to the beach from in town. Next to the parking lot there is a covered area with chairs and benches which are perfect for just relaxing by the ocean. There are also a couple of restaurants, a snack bar, a beach store, and an ice cream shop very close by.

The parking lot is by permit only but there is plenty of free street parking around (apparently the 2 Hour Parking signs are not enforced). The beach is very deep/wide (not sure the right descriptor for distance from sand to waterline) - a few 100 feet at low tide but only 10 feet or so at high tide. There are free restrooms and an outdoor shower head/foot wash station. Lifeguard on duty as well. There are some large kelp beds in the water but if you go out past them, the water is clear - we saw various clam shells and a few stripped bass swimming.

Once you cross the bridge, the beach is very close. The sand is nice and the water is cold. The bathrooms were tight but it's at the front by parking. If you go at noon during a busy summer season, be prepared to wait. Wish there was food vendors for some snacks. So make sure to bring your own drinks/food. Folks in front of us kept a noticeable distance- but there were folks behind us and next to us who weren't nearly distant enough for me to make me want to stay more than the 45 minutes we were here. But I will say, there are restrooms, outdoor showers, beach is well kept, and the water....oh man....the water looked like sapphire. We came in early November on a Sunday, parked on Route 1A by a 2-hr parking sign, and walked down to the loop at the end of Harbor Beach Rd near Cliff Walk, and just sat on the concrete path leading to the beach eating our lunch. It was bliss. The abundant and unseasonably warm sunshine, the vast expanse of ocean ebbing and flowing, the sloping crescent shaped sandy beach... there was nothing not perfect about it. Just remember, like at any beach, keep a close eye on the little ones in the waves. If you are not staying overnight, be prepared for parking fees ranging from 20 to 40 dollars per day.
