Short Street Tavern is one of those small hidden gems. I've heard rumors of their famous prime rib and finally had the chance to try it. Was not disappointed! It's massive - probably 20+ ounces massive so come hungry or bring help to eat it! Also love that they have a salad bar. Those are nearly unheard of anymore. One of the best things about this business? They are supporters of Veterans. They donated a gift card to a VFW poker run I attended last year. Been here about 4 times, tonight was not what I was hoping for, ordered a ribeye steak medium when it came it was well done on one side and light gray on the other. My fries and salad bar was good. But I came for the steak, they did offer to cook another steak, but family was about done eating, I left the steak there and the they charged me $16 for fries and salad. It will be awhile before I return there are other places now are striving for my dollar. read more

If you want prime rib that will change your life this is where you will find it. I know everyone goes overboard on these reviews. I am a certified red blood blue collar carnivore. I have eaten at every type of steak house all over the Midwest and spent anywhere from 10-50 bucks for a steak. This prime rib steak salad bar and baked potato is the best and only about $22. It's a small little country bar in a small country town way off the beaten path. You will not regret the drive. They do have a nice menu but man I just cannot order anything else but the prime rib dinner. You will thank me later. Still the best Prime rib in mid west!!! read more

Casual, clean, family restaurant with generous portions. They have a nice salad bar and a good variety of menu items. We had the prime rib which was good and really big. They don't except credit or debit cards but they do have an ATM, thankfully. The mixed drinks weren't very good and they don't have much of a wine selection. Got to visit good ol' Short Street for the first time in 4 years this past September. THE BEST prime rib I have ever eaten, cold beer, great atmosphere, and the waitstaff all have awesome t-shirts that have a replica "SS" type logo on them for added coolness. Tried Short Street Tavern for the first time on August 6. I had heard a lot about their prime rib, which is roasted first, then grilled like a steak. It was amazing! I absolutely loved it. Had waffle-cut seasoned fries with it, which were just ok. The salad bar had limited offerings, but all was fresh and the potato salad was very good. The only drawbacks were a mouthy waitress (not our waitress, but another who was rude to my husband at the salad bar) and the fact that they do not take debit/credit cards. They do have an on-site ATM machine, which saved me from having to wash dishes, but also meant extra fees for us for using an out of network ATM. Still, it was a good place to eat, and I will return if I'm in the area. I'll just remember to bring cash next time. read more

The Prime Rib was very good, but my medium rare came to me cold. The first couple bites were delicious, but after that, it was too cold for me. Tasted great heated up at home though. I didn't like the single trip salad bar--only because of the single trip rule. Due to the single trip, I got a slab of beef for dinner and I needed a bit more to balance my meal. You can pay extra for multiple trips--if I come back, I will. It really is a bar with a bar atmosphere. I'm not bring my kid here again. The table next to us had inappropriate conversation for our entire meal and the place is loud. No smoke, but lots of drinking and crude behavior--at least the evening we went--but--it's a bar and I'd expect nothing less. We were told that the bar and restaurant were more separate, but I must've misunderstood. All in all, good food and okay service, but the atmosphere left me waiting more. read more

Have eaten here dozens of times over the years, probably over a hundred. Old restaurant and new one. But have to say it's becoming a disappointment. Steaks and prime rib not the quality they use to be. Had the wednesday night special, 12 oz. ribeye steak med rare. Second one in a month and neither was good. Both had a lot of tough fat and gristle. About a third of the steak. And what was meat was very tough for ribeye. Also like good Bloody Mary's but not these. Very bad vodka taste and cheap mix. No salt on glass. Asked for olives or celery and was told they don't keep that on hand. Sure need a good restaurant in the area. read more

I am a military veteran of 24 years, living overseas for 17. I have had London Broil, Kobe Beef and numerous varieties of Steak Diane, the awesome Prime Rib of Short Street is supremely tops! My Grandson insisted on treating me and his Dad to this delicious portion of juicy, seared, large and well presented Prime Rib! Two words...PRIME RIB. Best ever, in fact, I would also call it life changing. Well worth the long drive on twisty narrow roads to get there. It has been our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries and such for several years. My husband used to ask where I wanted to go, now it's WHEN are we going? Large steak and a beer will run you $30. Believe me, we are the biggest tight wads around, but this meal is worth every penny. We always take home leftovers, of course, but I guarantee not one piece goes to waste (and we're not big fans of leftover steak!) Carnivores delight! Go there! that picture of the prime rib and the comment that it was cooked perfect is a farce...the "prime rib" comes out of a cryovac bag marked beef rib roast...yes, it's precooked garbage with the lip on and 1/3 fat!!! i was so disappointed. the only thing i found worth eating was the salad bar. don't waste your time and money driving to montrose mo.,.i won't...by the way when i confronted my wait person about what i thought the response was "then don't come back"!!! read more
