Fresh batch of donuts are ready!
    Christine S.

Their donuts are made fresh daily, and it's in a prime location in Barangaroo. Some of the donuts are a little on the oily side, but they're more on the cake-y side - which I like! I really like their Australian Honey & Sea Salt Cruller. The Earl Grey & Rose Donut is VERY flavorful. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed their Salted Coconut Yuzu & Kaya Donut. The citrus taste was quite refreshing. I thought I'd like their Maple Walnut & Brown Sugar more than I did, but I have to adjust my taste buds & remember that I'm not North America. I like how they rotate their flavors, so I'll be sure to go back & try more flavors

Doughnuts are fresh and roll out as they open. Very rich so one would be sufficient with coffee. Coffee was good but the large size is not really a large. Hoo friendly service.

To be honest I have been disappointed with donuts in Australia. I stopped even trying to eat them, no matter how pretty they seemed. They have a density that is somewhat off putting to an American used to a lighter texture. I come from SF, the home of Mr Holmes (well, along with LA) and Bobs, and that place on 3rd and King with the best apple fritters you can probably get, Donut King or something? I hate to even mention Neighbor Bakehouse because the Dogpatch is getting crazy. I won't be wasting my precious calories eating a bad donut. That said, I had a moment of weakness after a very good meal at Anason around the corner. Turkish, and I wrote a glowing review for it. Coming around the corner I spotted some Gorgeous looking doughnuts! I took home the peanut butter and jam one. Creamy peanut butter filling with very strawberry flavored icing. Donut was yeasty and good, slightly denser than a fluffy US donut, but not heavy as lead or anything. Really very nice, or maybe I am getting used to Australian donuts? Going native? Let me be clear that Mr Holmes passion fruit filled donut (or almost any of their filled donuts) are the best of class, top ranked donut in my history. This was not as good as that, but it was really pretty good. Trying to help out my fellow SF travelers who are probably very frustrated with almost no Yelp help in Australia. Yes, you can trust me. Tip-use Dimmi here, don't try to use open table.

Whiskey Maple Bacon & Boston Cream Doughnuts!

You know when you just 'can't even'? Yep. You get it then. No explanation required. The doughnuts here are supreme; their glaze rendering me weak at the knees. Having visited the store in Melbourne a few weeks back, I took the opportunity last night to wander down to the store on Barangaroo Ave just before closing time. Without a hint of hesitation, Elana C. & I order a Whiskey, Maple, Bacon Doughnut, a Boston Cream & an Earl Grey & Rose with a couple of cappuccino's to boot. We strap our eatin' pants on & take a seat at the far end of the store. The goods land on our table within minutes, the doughnuts eyeing me with their glaze'y deliciousness. Cutting each in half, they survive no longer than minutes. The Whiskey, Maple, Bacon; elevated by hints of bacon, cutting effortlessly through the sugariness of the glaze. The Boston Cream; with its oozing guts, punches us in the mouth repeatedly with bold notes of chocolate & vanilla. Each doughnut is wonderfully decadent, delicate & everything a doughnut ought to be. In a moment of clarity, we take the Earl Grey & Rose to go, the opportunity to enjoy it later with a cup of tea at home proving too much. Packing it into my handbag, we rug back up & head back out into the crisp Sydney evening. we will absolutely be back. If you're looking to be ruined for doughnuts forever, Shortstop is your place. You're welcome!

Shortstop Coffee & Donuts lives up to its name with some of the finest donuts and most memorable flavours. This little oasis hides in the shadows of Barangaroo's monstrously tall corporate buildings. But don't let that fool you, despite its size this place has a voice to be heard. A delicious doughy voice. Service is amazing, hands down. Sparkling water is offered to you while you think over which donut to order. Tables are quickly cleared and cleaned, and the staff are only too happy to assist. I was even able to have a conversation with one of the bakers as she iced a tray of Vanilla Bean Raised. The flavours are just as tasty as they are unique. They capture both imagination and balance. They find that right level of sweetness which makes you forget about all your troubles and worries. The dough is perfectly precise; soft and squishy yet firm and pronounced. It's bright looks, wooden decor, large windows and high ceilings gives a feeling of freedom, even though there is limited space and seating. If you are unable to grab a table, worry not, as you are only a few seconds away from King Street Wharf. Range of coffee is a little limited, but who cares when you have the best donuts in town!

Among those flavour that tried today, the best one is New Orleans iced coffee. The coffee is very strong and dominant and not to sweet. The rest as I tried just ok, nothing so spectacular. However coffee is just nice. I am definitely will be back for burnt caramel flavour

I was so excited because of the line and beautiful donuts but was let down. I'd try again, there was nothing wrong with the donut I had per say, but it was dull. I feel that way a lot with unfilled donuts, maybe I should just stick to filled..... Staff were nice and they have a good system to get you in and out!

I can certainly vouch for the quality of the Sydney donut shop having earlier this year eaten Shortstop donuts in Melbourne. They are almost better in their execution and freshness, although it probably helps that they are eaten while looking out on Sydney harbour on it's summery-winters-June day only a few steps away from the Barrangaroo storefront. You simply have to try the tiramisu donut if it's on offer, and the burnt butter with maple walnut is even better! How the hell do they do it?! 5/5 is well deserved. Just ask my belly :-D

Beautiful donuts. I was excited to try the salted coconut, yuzu and kaya. Unfortunately it's so overbearingly sweet that you can hardly taste the yuzu. It'd be much better if they used lighter icing or removed it altogether.

Dropped in for some Artisinal Donuts at the new Shortstop in Sydney. The warm Burnt Caramel, Fennel & Sea Salt donut or the Maple Walnut and Brown Butter were more like desserts you might have after a very nice dinner. After ordering, they will bring your donuts to your table or take them to go. Unfortunately, I already had my morning coffee.

Not your average donut! They mix it up with Asian fusion flavours and also get creative. I've tried the coffee which is my fave. Ask about the density of the donut as some are a bit on the cakey side. I prefer the lighter batter so I vote the coffee and the salted one! Mmmm

    Evening doughnut and coffee bliss

Lovely little shop, very friendly and helpful staff. I noticed their quick attention to detail. They don't have skim, soy or almond milk but their coffee is beautifully crafted, although the beans are nothing out of the ordinary. Doughnuts are nice, modest selection, would love more flavours in the future, defiantly keeping a lookout for those! I only gave 4 stars for the doughnuts and coffee, but 5 stars for the customer service for sure! Oh and I'm sooo happy this joint's open till late, need more places like these around!

Although the shop was a little hard to find, I tried the "Matcha", "Pistachio & Spiced Orange Cake" and "Australian Honey & Sea Salt".

So love these Donuts. The only donut shop in Australia I've found that has crullers. Bravo!

I'm a foodie, NOT a shopper!…read more After walking around Sydney's CBD, we visited the famous Queen Victoria Building, a late 19th-century Romanesque Revival marketplace that is now a shopping mall filled with high-end boutiques and eateries. We crossed George Street to The Strand, where we were in search of the world-famous patisserie, Black Star Pastry. Although I don't use IG or FB, I heard about Black Star Pastry's Strawberry Watermelon Cake while reading an old New York Times article about this Australian patisserie, which declared this signature cake and most-requested cake as "The World's Most Instagrammed Cake." So, I made Black Star Pastry a destination during our pre-cruise stay in Sydney. We followed the directions posted on The Strand's directory to Black Star Pastry and ogled the artistically and attractively decorated cakes while zeroing in on the Strawberry Watermelon cake slices lined up next to the Raspberry Lychee and Mango Yuzu cake slices. Honestly, all of the cake slices looked lusciously delicious, but our taste buds were craving a refreshing slice of Strawberry Watermelon. We selected the cake slice, and the amicable countergirl neatly packaged it and asked if we needed eating utensils. Of course, we needed and wanted eating utensils as we dreamed about digging into the cake at their dining counter right away. My husband rushed me to finish taking photos, and he jabbed his fork into the tender yet juicy cake. Before I knew it, he unassembled the cake slice to reveal a fresh-cut slice of juicy, ripe, and sweet watermelon, light rose-scented cream, tender cake, and was topped with fragrant rose petals and fresh strawberries. He claimed it would be easier to eat because the cake slice was about 3" high and looked like it would've toppled when pierced from top to bottom. Yeah, it was HIS "thing" about eating this cake, I decided to take a bit of the top layer, then a small slice of the watermelon bottom layer together. It truly was refreshing, light, and not overly sugary. The lightness and flavors of this cake seemed like it might have been low-cal, but even if it wasn't, who cares when you're on vacation?!

Haven't been back to either of the aforementioned shops since then. I always seem to get a combination of some of my favorite items: red bean buns-not to be confused with their red bean "paste" buns, which are thicker and sweeter-, custard buns, egg tarts, plain polo buns, and taro polo buns. There's all range in price $1.00 ~ $2.00, and I definitely prefer their versions to the ones found in other shops as these ones are less sweet and more generous with filing. Also, please be on the lookout for their pre-close specials, where they bag a few assorted items for a hugely discounted price in late afternoon around 5-6pm!
