There's mountain views from every angle, wildlife, super relaxing hot springs, a water park, lots of little shops and restaurants, and a lovely river running through it all! We came for a short family vacation during spring break March 2023 specifically to visit the hot springs and it's SO worth it! We even saw wild turkeys walking around haha! The hot springs are perfect for winter! But they also have winter sports available too. In summer they have a water park and even have tubing along the small rapids on the Portneuf River that runs through town. The town is small but has several dining options and cafes and shops - plenty of choice to keep you happy. The people were warm, welcoming and so friendly. My son lives in Salt Lake City and it's not too long of a drive to get here - they come here often so I'm sure I'll be back! Highly recommend!

It was well worth the stop. The marker reads: "Taylor's Bridge. Idaho's earliest toll bridge spanned Snake River at this rocky site in 1865. Replacing Eagle Rock Ferry, 9 miles upstream. James Madison Taylor (a relative of Presidents Madison and Taylor and a founder of Denver, Colorado) settled here in 1864 to develop an improved route for his freight line from Salt Lake to Montana's new gold mines. After his bridge was built, telegraph service reached here July 16, 1866 and Eagle Rock (as Idaho Falls was known until 1890) became a regional transportation center. A railroad bridge was built adjacent to Taylor's bridge in 1879."

Last Friday the Willard Arts Center held an opening for their Japanese Woodblock Prints exhibit,…read moreand it was fabulous! The curator, Nathan Barnes, gave a great presentation on the artists, this particular medium and Japanese history at the time woodblocking was an industry. They served sushi and drinks and used the premier to promote local artist Steve Neilsen's exhibit, Out of Chaos, upstairs. And because this was the exhibit's opening, the Art Center was open in the evening! Idaho Falls may not be the most cultured city, but events like this prove we have potential! I love supporting the arts, and this is a great opportunity to do just that while experiencing some phenomenal Japanese woodblock prints. While I wish these exhibits could be open in the evenings, I'm sure they don't have the funding to pay for the support staff those hours would require. But maybe if more of us frequent the Willard Arts Center, it will give them reason to look for ways to make that work!

The marker reads, "Hudspeth's Cutoff. In the summer of 1849, the California GOld Rush was diverted this way in search of a more direct route to the mines. Stampeding 49'ers would try anything to save miles and time in their rush for California gold: the regular Oregon and California trails looped north of here to Fort Hall, but on July 19, 1849, Benoni M. Hudspeth led a party west from Soda Springs through rough country hoping for a more direct route through a gap 1.4 miles south of here. This immediately became the main road, though it saved far less than Hudspeth thought." I did not follow the same route as the 49ers as I'm leaving California. We stopped by the Idaho Potato Museum on our way to Yellowstone National Park specifically because…read moremy kids were dying to check it out and learn about potato history. It turned out to be such a fun, memorable experience for the whole family! ​The exhibits are super informative and give you a cool look into how Idaho became the potato capital. But the highlight for us was definitely the cafe! We made it just before they closed at 5:00 PM and grabbed the waffle fries and the baked cheesy potato,both were absolutely delicious and worth the stop alone. ​If you're traveling with kids, this is a fantastic, quick, and unique place to explore. Highly recommend making it a pitstop!

We made a trip from Hawaii to Salt Lake City specifically to visit the Idaho Potato Museum (long…read morestory). Drove almost 4 hours to get there and then another 3+ hours to Boise to visit friends and flew home from there. Was it worth it? Well, we actually had a really great time! There was enough to keep us interested for a couple hours. Typical museum displays were supported by videos, some talking potatoes, even a cute Virtual Reality Tractor and some video games. After we went through the exhibits, we ended at the cafe and got a baked potato and some fries. You can have anything you want on them, so we got chili and cheese, sour cream, and bacon. The only sad part was that they were out of gnocchi. Lots of parking and there are some shops in the area. So, yes, we're really glad we went and recommend it if you're in the area.

They also have several interesting displays of commodes (including a personal portable one used by a duchess!), washing machines, soap and irons. If you happened to be in the area, make sure you visit the Museum Of Clean!

I have read Don Aslett's books before. He is the ONLY author, to tackle the subject of 'cleaning'…read more(ANYTHING) with interesting information, technique, and (dare I say) humor! He passed away last year, truly leaving a void in this world. The $10 entrance fee is worth it, because at this time, they offer you a choice of one of his excellent books! It is WELL worth the price of admission! The books are on the counter, left of the admission counter, so be sure to ask for yours! On the third floor is a display of the SPACE AGE era in America (striving with Russia). It covered the subsequent 'rocket' designs of vacuum cleaners. I couldn't help it, I laughed out loud while reading it! :D What I found interesting ; -Elizabeth of Bavaria's traveling commode (and HOW it worked) -WWII field latrine -The daunting DUST Victorians faced, and the first vacuum invented (horse drawn) -the goofy statues made out of cleaning & vacuum cleaner parts -all the vintage advertising & appliances -the video on how to clean a bathroom in three minutes! In their gift shop, they have an interesting mix of toys, cleaning tools, and other goodies. I ended up buying handy-dandy toilet brushes for my friends! Won't they be SO pleased?! SWEET!
