Phoenix Arts is a small cinema, there is one screen and thus only one showing at a time. The listings vary from the newest independent releases, to regular showings of classics and cult favourites from cinema history. They sometimes also do theme days or weeks, for example around Halloween, they have regular showings of classic horror films. Ticket costs are about the same as larger, more mainstream cinemas, though they sometimes do various offers for advanced bookings. There is a very relaxed atmosphere at Phoenix Arts - no rushing, no people ruining films with chit-chat. They also operate a bar, so you can take in alcoholic drinks with you to watch the movie if you so choose. From time to time, they host lectures on certain aspects of film and multimedia presentations by local university students. There is also weekly comedy and music nights in the lounge area.

Besides your usual popcorn and sweets, they also have a Baskin Robbins where you can get ice cream and sundaes. There are some tables in the lobby area if you are a bit early... although it is next to a number of restaurants if you do want a bite to eat before or after your film. During peak times it can be difficult to get in and out of the leisure park and sometimes difficult to find parking. However, it is convenient and saves us from having to drive further to find a cinema.

The seats are not great for children as the angle of the incline of the auditorium is not as steep as the more modern ones so they can;t see over the seat in front without an uncomfortable plastic seat insert that doesn't allow them to sit back - they have to sit upright. They do a movie mob screening every Sat and Sun morning 10.30am and school holidays where you pay a couple of quid per child and adults get in free so really worth going to. On the website it will be down as the 'kids club' screening. Normally relatively recent films so it is a bargain.

Conversely a lot of Hollywood blockbusters that you'd expect to make it here don't, which is also disappointing. As is the price tag - which is no less than what you'd pay at a big, metropolitan cinema with large rooms and comfortable seating! On the plus side, they do have a cheap night once a week, when films are half price - so if you're lucky enough to find a film you actually want to watch here, you can see it on the cheap.
