The Star casino has been reviewed plenty of times and the poker room is just another part of that,…read morebut as most poker players know, the poker room is completely separate from the main gaming floor! The Star Poker Room (aka Big Game Poker) was opened in late 2009 which finally moved the few poker tables out of the hubbub of main room and up into its own large room. You'll know when you're getting nearer as the noise of vocal (read: annoying) players blends with clinking of chips to form a poker orchestra. Tables are opened (generally) depending on the demand for a particular game - $80-200 NLH ($2/$1 blinds) and $200-500 NHL (unsure of blinds - never had that much money on me!) are the most popular, and you may have to wait a while to get a seat at the $80-200 game, but they have plenty of space so if they have enough dealers, they'll try and start more games. Obviously, your playing against other players, so the casino isn't taking all your money, but to make sure that it makes a bit of cash off you, they charge $5 at the top of each hour (and if you start some point during it, they'll charge you accordingly) and they take a 10% from each hand, up to a maximum of $8 (that's the $80-200 game, not sure about others). The games themselves...all my experiences have come at the smaller $80-200 game and it can be a wildly varying experience! If you're into playing a sensible, well-thought out game of poker, then this probably isn't for you - too many players who play the smaller games, just throw many at it and don't really pay much attention to anything else, which can be a little annoying, but have a couple of drinks and get in their mindset and you should be fine! They also hold weekly tournaments as well as some bigger, international competitions, so keep an eye out on the website for those!
