The Good: I was able to schedule an appointment quickly as I wanted a massage and acupuncture after my long flight the night before (tightness in shoulders, neck and back). I was warmly greeted by Ceci (?), filled out some paperwork, and then spoke with Shu Jun. I started out with a strong massage by Ceci and she then used a heating tool that seemed to break up the fascia that was making me tight. Ceci was really great. She gave me some pointers throughout the massage and helped me to relax. And, I liked her demeanor: calm, quiet, caring. The Not-So-Good: - The massage: They used Johnson's baby oil. For the price of the services, I would have thought that a higher quality massage oil would have been used. Baby oil is not good for the body or the planet. I didn't see this until after I was getting dressed when my appt was over. :( - The acupuncture: Initially painful but it resided when I did the deeper breathing per Shu Jun. I get acupuncture regularly at home and I hadn't experienced pain like this; she said acupuncture here is different from other places (meaning America). So be warned... - The moxibustion: kinda makes you smell like you smoked a cigarette (which I don't). Shu Jun said that it was clearing the toxins. We'll see... - Head Massage: I was asked if I wanted the head massage since I complained of a headache. Of course I wanted that if it could help...But, instead, I got a "facial scraping" in which they used an oil on my face and a heating wand of some sort to massage my face. (I typically don't like any kind of oil on my face since it can cause skin issues and I told Ceci. She said she would wash it off straight away which she did). I wish I was told this was how the service would be done since I expected a head massage, as in my scalp and temples getting massaged. Lesson learned that I should have asked for the details...but doesn't that seem very different than a head massage? I didn't think it would be SO different. The Ugly: - Constant upsell: At first, I just wanted the massage and acupuncture. She suggested 5 things: cupping, massage, acupuncture, moxibustion, head massage, and herbal medicines which would have cost approx. 250 British pounds. Well, sorry, in American dollars that's a whole lot of money. I told her just the massage and acupuncture. Then, I agreed to the head massage (an extra 30 minutes) because I'm a sucker... Then she pushed her herbs at the end of the visit. Sigh. (See below for more on that). - She pushed me to purchase her medicines. When I suggested that I could buy her medicines if I came back later in the week, she seemed exasperated that I wasn't buying them today (and maybe to her credit she wanted to see that they were working on me before I returned). In total, they would have cost me an additional 60 pounds. I said I'd think about it. She then suggested that I buy one of them and even offered me a discount but I still refused. She said, "It's only 10 pounds more." I said, "Not in American dollars, it isn't. I'm already paying over $250 US dollars." (I'm sorry, but that's not chump change in my opinion.) - We discussed my return in a few days for additional services since she recommended me coming again. However, when couldn't find a convenient time that worked with her schedule, I sat down on the couch to look at my schedule. She then handed me her card and walked away without saying a word. No thank you, no goodbye. I wasn't sure if she was coming back to give me some final to-do's post treatment, so I sat for a few minutes until I realized that she wasn't coming back when I heard her working with another client. Hmmm... I would say that my experience is with mixed emotions: partially good service (thank you, Ceci), but inappropriate customer service. I suggest looking on Google reviews instead of Yelp since I had very little luck finding good reviews for acupuncturists in London. Disappointing to say the least. read more

The worst massage I ever got. I signed up for the 30 min chair massage yesterday at the location on Wells St, and the man used only the tips of his thumb the entire time, which isn't a proper massage. He also spent the whole time talking to the receptionist in Chinese instead of focusing on the massage. Terrible pressure, wasn't effective at all. Today I have a pain in my neck from his weird prodding. They also try to pressure you into getting acupuncture when you enter, which they call a "consult." The "doctor" (who is the guy who massaged me) asks if you're bloated, if you get your period regularly, and if you have facial pain. Ridiculous, what a fraud. Not worth the cheap massage. read more

I booked an acupuncture and massage 90 minute session. I was asked questions about my health so they assess the treatment. The acupuncture took about 60 minutes of the time which to me seemed like too long. They spent 5 minutes putting the needles in and left me in the room returning only to turn around. When it came to the massage, it was good. She told me where I was blocked but that I needed further treatments. I explained I was unable to do so. Still I felt like the pressure to do some continued treatment. When it came time to pay, she told me I should take specific herbs, then added some more massage things which totaled more than the massage itself. When I explained I did not expect to have to spend any more money, I was then put into more pressure to "improve my health and only I can look after myself". As I continued to have doubts, she would not back down and continued to insist I should take at least one week of herbs or find a way to get my family to get it for me. At this point, the relaxing feeling I had from the massage evaporated and I felt like I was being ripped off. Summary: massage is nice but felt I was pressured to spend more. read more

Dr Shu Jun very rude, unprofessional behaviour & attitude I bought 2 vouchers from Groupon to use at Shu Jun healthcare. One for me and one for my mother. My mother had her treatment at Shu Jun Burnt Oak, and enjoyed her treatment. I ask Burnt Oak branch if she can use my coupon again at Burnt Oak, they said no, as its for new customers only. As we could not use it in Burnt Oak, I booked at the Maida Vale Branch. At the Maida Vale branch they had asked if my mother had the treatment before I said yes, at the Burnt Oak branch. I was told she cannot use it again, even in another branch. I said, I did not know that as it's the first time I have used these coupons. I said OK I myself will use this voucher next week at the Burnt Oak branch, as this branch is closer to me. They told me I can use it again, but not your mum. I booked an appointment the week after at the Burnt Oak branch, I was told the voucher has been used. I said it can't be used I did not use it, the person at the Maida Vale branch must have put the voucher through the system even though we did not have the massage. She said we need 48 hours notice to cancel it. I said my intentions were to have the treatment, only that my mother could not use the voucher, so I said I'll use the voucher myself next week. It was Maida Vale's fault for putting the voucher through for a treatment not used. The lady at the Burnt Oak Branch agreed and gave me an appointment for 12pm the following Friday. I went to the Burnt Oak Branch for my Friday appointment and the staff and Dr Shu Jun was present. I told her I have an 12pm appointment, she said to me: no you don't, your voucher has been used. I explained everything to her and even told her I have an appointment at 12pm. Dr Shu Jun showed me the appointments book aggressively and said where, I cant see it? I told her I have used one voucher and not the other. She was so rude and said to me, I don't open this shop just for you so you can waste our time and call us so many times to book and cancel your appointment. She made up such lies as she could for the next few minutes to make me look silly, infront of her staff and customers. I said I have never phoned to cancel an appointment nor have I called so many times. She accused me several times of being stupid and booking a treatment at Maida Vale and Burnt Oak. I said that was a genuine mistake, as it's the first time I have used the vouchers, and I was honest at Maida Vale, that my mum has had this treatment before. I even spend £75 on products when my mum had her treatment, on buy 1 get 1 free offer at Burnt Oak. (Maida Vale had buy 2 get 1 free, at the same time). I had also planned to booked further block treatments for my mum at a cost of £200. I found Shu Jun's attitude so damn rude and I was disgusted by her unprofessional behaviour for a doctor. If that's the way she talks to her customers, how does she treat her staff? Her staff were happy to help customers out and help try to resolve it, but Dr Shu Jun, went out her way to be as much awkward, unsympathetic and really stubborn towards me, her customer. Finally I got home later and I got a call from Shu Jun Healthcare Burnt Oak, saying I had an appointment and why I did not make it. As soon as they knew it was me, they put the phone down. Now how appalling and immature is that for a business and a reputation of a doctor. read more

Dr. Shu Jun gives the best massage I've ever experienced (and I've had some good ones from therapists over the years). She has a rare gift with her hands, finding and relieving knots and tightness in the back and neck and recognising what health issues they indicate, with an accuracy that smacks to me almost of psychic ability. The energy in her hands is what impresses me and sets her above most others. The massage I got (two so far) is a "therapeutic massage", as opposed to a "relaxing" massage, which I normally don't get as they tend to be too soft and superficial. A therapeutic massage (one of Dr. Shu's specialities) is more vigorous and focuses on deep tissue manipulation, removing blockages and increasing 'qi' flow; it's slightly more painful but more deeply relieving. The theory (also recognised by chiropractic) is that the neck and back reflect health issues (heart, liver, kidneys, etc.) as well as stress, anxiety, worry, etc. By relieving muscular tensions and tissue adhesions and increasing energy flow and circulation, overall health and mental/emotional balance are enhanced. The effects seem to bear this out - certainly I slept very well at night after each session. It's a massage mainly with hands and oil but includes a stage with a smooth stone scraper (gua sha), then a hot herb-filled bag. Towards the end you flip over and the massage finishes on the front. Overall, all I could ask for in a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating massage. read more

Having seen a lot of acupuncture and massage specialists over the years, Dr. Shu Jun Duan is one of the best by a long way. I have ongoing back problems and Shu Jun always seems to find the most painful places straight away and ease the pain. Most others I've tried don't get it - Shu Jun does the job! read more

Visited Shu Jun's Healthcare in Wells Street, I had acupuncture and a massage, which were both wonderful. Recommend a visit to her health salon, the location is fantastic, near oxford street for shopping and there is a delightful pub opposite the salon. read more
