Great place especially after the recent renovations. They've put in long wooden benches at a big communal table which is nice for working on a laptop with others. They've also still got the bar stools around the window-countertops, which is great for people watching on Baker Street. The coffee is fine, but the baked goods and food are the best part. Love the cinnamon buns. Seriously, these are the best around. The breakfast sandwich is pretty simple, but always good. In the summer months, and on nice days, these guys have a secret weapon that makes this one of the best spots to hang out downtown. But you'll have to discover that for yourself. read more

A tasty stop in downtown Nelson. I just had to stop at this location based on a strong recommendation from a trustworthy source and I was not dissapointed. The decor and ambiance reminded me of European bistro, in a neat building. The food and drinks were tasty and the choices were many. I found the service to be welcoming and friendly. The whole atmosphere in fact seemed relaxed. I was happy to see many people enjoying themselves in the atmosphere. The price was also very Regionale for the quality of the food and drinks. As this was the only Nelson coffee shop I've visited, I can't compare with others, but I very much enjoyed my time at Sidewinders. I ordered a tea, and had a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers and onions (they give you these toppings as optional). I thought it tastes fantastic. Perhaps I am biased because I am a huge fan of bagels and lox in general. Wifi available with a password, and plenty of space to sit at a table or on a couch. There seemed to be a lot of turnover during my stay (2 hours or so). I would definitely return, because something they were marinating in the back smelled absolutely delicious! read more

Yes, Sidewinders serves coffee, but this is the only good thing about the business. I went to Sidewinders because there are always people inside, and because there are only so many coffeeshops in Nelson, but I won't be back. The service was terrible. Not only did the girl serving appear as though somebody had just drowned her goldfish, she was also speaking to her co-worker non-stop and barely acknowledging my existence (or the existence of my cash, which was paying her wage). The baked goods on offer looked bland and glutinous, and this is coming from someone who might actually sacrifice an earlobe or pinky for an outstanding cinnamon bun. The decor was also bland and unwelcoming. Most of the chairs and tables were rigid and ergonomically detrimental, and the four comfortable chairs in the window stood alone...so you could be comfortable while you were consuming your coffee, but you would have to balance your mug in your lap. The tragic thing about Sidewinders is that their Kicking Horse coffee is pretty good. Skip this doozy and grab your cuppa at Oso Negro or The Dominion. read more

I have been to this cafe a million times and I love it! The baking is all baked fresh daily from scratch, including the cinnamon buns which are to die for. They make all their sandwiches made to order and so substitutions are not a problem. There are big comfy booths for larger groups and large leather chairs at the front of the store for individuals (with little semi circle table on the walls for your treat and coffee). The coffee is and always has been JJBean from Vancouver (not Kicking Horse), and is always fresh and delicious. They also serve a house dark roast coffee blended and roasted by Oso Negro (because JJBean no longer makes any dark roast blends). For the most part the staff is very friendly and the service is quick. read more

You know sidewinders goes in with the breakfast special. It's real cheap and the garlic aoli is like the big man himself spreading love all over your egg sandwich. I don't know what else they make but it's not as good as the breakfast special. read more
