They have tried to lure us to move here, but we keep reminding them we don't like snow. Accommodations are quite expensive-- especially during the high season, which is actually summer, not winter. But don't expect a deal in winter either. There is a lot to do in Truckee. For those who like mountain biking or hiking, there are tons of trails around. Naturally, there are several world-class ski resorts nearby as well. Expect to pay a lot. Truckee is one of the most beautiful places in Northern California. There's a good reason that people flock here. One of my favorite places to visit in town is the Fifty-Fifty" brewery. It is very close to Sierra Bible Church. On Sunday mornings you can get your spiritual enlightenment, and then follow it up with some liquid refreshment. If you go to the second service, the brewery will open about the time the church lets out. I'm not sure if they coordinated those times or not, but it works out well, at least for me. Truckee has so much snow, they have developed a world-class system of maintaining the roads. They actually teach other cities how to do it. There is an excellent State Park based upon the Infamous Donner party history. It's well worth taking the tour there. Now that our kids own a house here, we can avoid paying the expensive hotel bills. But I'm afraid our kids might make us shovel snow.

Donner Lake was literally LIT up last night, with the MOST spectacular fireworks & finale show of all time! I can honestly write this, as I've had plenty of experiences with 4th of July firework shows, from around California (ie: numerous Bay Area locations, San Francisco Bay, North & South Lake Tahoe, boating at the Delta-fireworks put on by the Hilton Family), but none to date, have come even close to comparison, of the fireworks put on by the, Town of Truckee-Truckee Donner Recreation & Parks Dept, year after year. Because I can't personally thank each person, I'd like to take this opportunity to express my & my family's gratitude to EVERYONE; from the Town of Truckee, Town of Truckee personnel & road crew, Truckee Donner Rec & Parks Dept, Truckee Police Dept, Truckee Fire Dept, Truckee Hwy Patrol & to all those that volunteered, to make this day a special one. Thank you, for your time, patience & all of the hard work that was contributed & performed by every single person involved in making this years, 4th of July celebration at Donner Lake, amazing, fun & safe! You rock.

Then she literally in her own words in playing English. Tells me I have no rights and if I don't work 40 hours a week and pay this creature I can rot in jail. Her words. Literally quite shocking for me. I don't know about all of you. This child support Tanya's been trying to get has been dismissed in several other counties )))) because they know the facts but Quincy California and their corrupt judge literally falsified records so that I have to pay this criminal Tonya fass. Most people visiting the court do so on official business as jury trials, drug court, juvenile dependency, traffic trials, etc. take place here. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be visiting here as tourists, and the historic Courthouse was worth a short visit on that note. Members of the public can enter after going through security. However, there are no tours available. Erected in 1921, the court interior features beautiful architecture, giving a timeless permanence to this official place often lacking in modern facilities. Marbled walls, columns, ceiling - all add up to an impressive sight. We climbed the stairs to admire the courthouse from all vantage points, and of course take pictures. The grounds as well are lovely, and a nice shaded picnic table is out back. Diagonal street parking can be found on the sides and back of the courthouse (one side is 2 hour limit). A worthwhile stop on a visit to Quincy.

I approached the building during active rain and attempted to open the door, as one would normally do at any public building. The male security guard stationed at the main entrance, who was shorter in height, stocky in build, with black hair, dark eyes, and dark skin, abruptly stepped outside, physically blocked the door, and addressed me in a hostile, authoritarian manner. There was no visible signage or clear instruction indicating that visitors were required to wait for the guard to open the door, and I had no way of knowing this beforehand. Rather than showing basic courtesy or calmly explaining the procedure--especially given the weather--the guard chose to be confrontational and dismissive. The interaction felt like an unnecessary power trip and was completely inappropriate for a public-facing federal office. I am giving one star due to the lack of professionalism, courtesy, and basic human consideration shown by the security staff. This experience was avoidable and left a very negative impression.

He was guarding the door so my husband and I asked for assistance and before I could finish explaining to him why we were there he cut us off saying "get to the point." Maybe I could empathize if I was taking up time or holding up a line but there was no one behind us and I barely talked for 10 seconds at this point. I was appalled because we are not rude people and spoke to him with respect. I finished telling him anyway that I had to drive over there because he sent my mom away and her English is not good, he said they can provide translation for her over the phone and kept repeating that when I asked if they did not have one in person or anyone to assist her with calling if I can't be there next time with her. I've never met a person who has made me that uncomfortable especially since he works with social security office to help people who are in need. Please hire more patient and kind people. I don't want to be worried about my mom coming here by herself again.

I couldn't safely pull over for a bit so I made him follow and signaled that I'd be getting over. The officer walks up (can't recall his name) and asks that damn question that I hate "You know why I'm stopping you?" And so I reply with my typical snarky comment "because I was driving like an asshole..." I got a chuckle, he kinda looked around in the car, and asked about my night... Let me stop the story right there and point out the fact that I am a black guy, covered in tattoos, my car is Procharged with 3:73 gears, it's disgustingly loud, it's obviously seen a street race or two, and my sense of humor isn't always received well... Anyway, I replayed in my words exactly how I was driving... the whole truth... he concurred, because he had been watching :(, and then told me to have a good night and drive safe! I was so damn taken back by how pleasant of an interaction I had shared with this guy that I thanked him and shook his hand. It's truly moments like these that people perform their job so well that you obey the speed limit out of respect for their duty they have to perform. It's his job to keep that section of road safe, and I was making that more difficult, I definitely deserved a ticket or two, and he showed mercy. I really wish I remembered the guys name, and hopefully he reads this. Thanks again!
