I arrived asking for examples of traditional Newfoundland music and was immediately directed to 2 CDs that I subsequently purchased: Rum Ragged (The Thing About Fish) and The Dardanelles (In the Spring. That's the Time). My only regret was not being around for any live music or appearances by local talent. I hope there's a next time!

BUT... i have CARE and nostalgia for record stores.. all the trips to SAMS, DISCUS, CHEAPIES, A&M.... :))) 1970/80's.. the HIGH time for vinyl.... Fred's is very cool, but have t-shirt's... it's lazy to have a handful of shirts left, no sizes, just medium. i'll tell you this; lot of people (ok.. some people....) love to support and wear a shirt from the shop; but no sizes equals no sales..

Heritage Shop is a classy souvenir shop on Water Street. They sell some of the usual items, like…read moreT-shirts. But here one can find handcrafted items with a St. John's theme, such as slate coasters, sun catches, wine stoppers and even switchplate covers. The St. John's townhouses are worked into many of these items. They also carry calendars and books about Newfoundland. There is also a selection of former independent Newfoundland postage stamps for stamp collectors. The shop is about one block up and two over from the cruise terminal.

Easily, the best in St. John's with a stunning collection of diverse items - and far beyond the oversold tropes of jelly bean houses (which few Newfoundlanders have ever owned or lived in), whales, and puffins. Oils, works on paper, sketches, large-scale photography, sculpture. Something for everyone, ranging from around $1,000 up to $15,000, which I think was the priciest one we saw.
