Ou room, #12 was up on the 1st (really second) without a scenic river view. During the day they was quite a bit of noise from tourists outside talking and taking photos. Our room was good sized with a faux fireplace and king bed. The large bathroom featured a double vanity, tub/shower combo and toilet. Our room rate included breakfast as well. The room decor could best be described as cozy cottage with subtle floral wall paper, well worn plank floors covered by an oriental rug and tall whitewashed wainscoting. The low ceilings and dark interiors added to the subtly. We arrived quite early on a train from Ghent so weren't able to get into the room but when we returned closer to 3, we were checked in and our rooms were even up already.

The rooms felt a bit outdated, wish there were outlets near the bed, but my biggest issue was about the cleanliness of the room and how it was outdated. There were spiderwebs in the shower, hair in the bed, the carpet was pretty dirty, and there was even a urine smell from one corner of the room. I should have said something but I wasn't staying long and I already unpacked and didn't want to go through the trouble so I just stayed away from that corner but there was definitely a smell in my room.

We chose the little "Euphrasie" cottage in the back by the canal and enjoyed a roaring fireplace and cute little private patio right on the water. Totally immersive Bruges experience and just a few minutes walk to what you want to see. That cottage has sturdy but fairly steep steps inside, so maybe choose a standard room if that is an issue for you. This place has my highest recommendation.

They welcome people into the little house at the bottom of the garden, where you can sit in front of your own log fire and look at the ducks and swans on the canal. The decor is traditional and modern but also very atmospheric, and there is no clutter. You can make tea and coffee and also have a fridge. Our room had the claw foot tub in the brick basement, and a door you could open to sit by the canal. We didn't do this in November as it was damp, but we did sit in the bath and let the cool afternoon air come into the bathroom. via the open door. Breakfast can be taken in your room or the kitchen of their home, which is a modern construction, but built in an old style....and style is what you get! We slept late one morning and breakfast was still served after 11.00! The king bed and duvet got a 10/10. Seppe the small hound deserves a special mention as he is a wonderful meeter greeter, whose tummy can never be rubbed too much! Our only concern as has been mentioned before, is that every word can heard in the bedroom from not only the bathroom next door but also the opposite bedroom. On the first night the Ozzie couple decided to have a little carnal romp at 12.30, quickly but with loads of LOUD effort.....thus we decided to warn the new UK check in's the next day, with a discrete note under the door, that we could hear EVERYTHING and they could hear us. We were both thus very understanding and heard little, apart from their 03.00 throwing up after too many beers! The next morning they slept until the afternoon.....and we heard nothing out of them! Their hangovers must have been stellar! We would certainly return, but next time book both rooms to solve any noise issue. The location is so quiet despite being in the middle of Bruges which is probably why one probably hears your fellow residents every move. After three days we left and very impressed....and we survived without hangovers!

You have to get directions from the front desk and park about a quarter mile away. Not too tough but if you miss the turn you will get lost like I did. Our room was on the first floor which I am never a fan of. People could see inside our room from the street in the evening when dark outside and light on inside so make sure to close the shades. Overall, the room is nice but not as nice as I thought it would be. In particular the bed wasn't too comfy and pillows were too soft. They have a cool lounge area with a fireplace to have a drink after dinner or late night. Very cozy. They also serve afternoon tea in the room if you are into it. My wife is so we did it. We came during Christmas so the market was going on which was fun if you want to try different seasonal food/drinks. It is right down the street. They also have a lot of chocolate shops and other souvenir shops nearby. It was a nice stay but for the price it wasn't the experience I thought it would be.

I got a hibiscus tea and my husband a black tea. The snacks arrived around the same time the tea did. The tea was in bags, not sure if that's their normal way or a COVID precaution but we are used to seeing loose leaf tea at afternoon tea. Not a problem, just something different. I loved my hibiscus tea and my husband loved his black tea. So that worked out nicely. One minor issue was that my teapot did not have a thing at the top to protect from the heat. So when I went to put the tea bag in the pot i burned my hand (not badly, but still ouch!) i assumed it was safe to grab! Oh well. On to the food - We had 3 different kinds of sandwiches: a salmon, an egg salad, and an avocado one. I'm allergic to shellfish so they gave us the avocado instead of their normal third choice. We got 4 scones - 2 regular and 2 raisin - with clotted cream and homemade jams. We then had an assortment of pastries. Everything I tried was good, I didn't even have room for the sweets! I preferred the raisin scone over the regular (which I never thought I would say). Overall it was a good experiences.

A review of the Restaurant Pergola at the Swan hotel…read more... We had been recommended this place by Tine at Canal Deluxe, as her family own it. She was very transparent about the connection and we felt she would not be happy sending clients there if it was not a decent place. It was the best place we ate at in Bruges! Their set menu was FANTASTIC value, and the food as good as one could have hoped for. I again had eel...a dish that is often not on a restaurant menu, and it was delicious. They have a great wine list and we went towards the lower ranges of the price list and had a delicious South African red from memory. The restaurant is set in the basement of the Swan hotel annex and has a great design style, candles flicker at night and you do really need to be told about the place as it is not on the tourist drag. The location is however fairly central, and we certainly recommend an evening spent imbibing and eating here. We had as short atmospheric potter back in the rain via the central square to Canal Deluxe and then enjoyed our next door guests having some slap and tickle...you'll have to read our review of Canal Deluxe for more details....

It takes only a couple of minutes to walk between them. Our room was tidy, big, nice old Flemish styled interior. The hotel has a very fresh and ample breakfast buffet. Only two things to complain about really: bad wifi in the "pergola" part of the building and although there was a real nice big bathtub in our room the faucets were not so good.

From the moment we arrived, Emmanuel made us feel welcomed to his home. The rooms are exactly as pictured - very old world elegance that has been updated as needed, including an elevator, wonderful baths, and glorious A/C if needed. The beds were comfortable, linens were fine, and furnishings plentiful. The location was great with an added bonus of a secure garage steps from the front door. Emmanuel is very helpful with recommendations for restaurants, helping us find a great place for dinner when the place we had a reservation decided not to open one evening! The breakfast prepared by Emmanuel's wife Maka is fit for a king! Meats, cheeses, eggs, lots of fruit, pastries, yogurt, juices, fancy coffees, and more. It was amazing, given there are only four rooms with a limited number of guests! We have friends in Belgium and when we visited them, I remember the same hospitality for breakfast - lots and lots of options. I highly recommend this maison for a short or long stay in Bruges. You will not be disappointed!!! PS. We stayed at Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce on a prior trip and found Maison le Dragon Guesthouse was better in every way - larger rooms, better breakfast, better amenities, and great personal attention.

We took the train from Antwerp to Bruges. The guesthouse is centrally located, just a block off the main street and walking was easy anywhere we wanted to go. Our room was large, spacious and attractively decorated. It was on the second floor and could be reached via the stairs or by the small elevator. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was lovely. The bathroom was divided into two parts, a toilet closet and a larger room w/ sink, shower and bathtub. Floors were marble tile. The windows opened onto a garden shared by the buildings surrounding it and birdsong and conversations from restaurant patrons formed a pleasant soundtrack. Free wifi was available in the room, which had a desk and chair at which to set up our laptop. Our host, Emanuel, was gracious and hospitable. His restaurant recommendations were excellent, aside from the first unfortunate one for lunch. Coffee and teas were available at any time. Breakfasts were capacious, starting w/ a large plate of fresh fruit for each of us, a basket of assorted breakfast pastries and breads, eggs (until we requested no eggs), a variety of very good cheeses and finishing w/ an assortment of chocolates. Truly no lunch was needed following that meal. Though we ate indoors, some guests opted to sit outdoors on the patio in back. The public rooms were attractively decorated and comfortable. Emanuel was also extremely helpful in making arrangements for us to get to Brussels without using the train, which we had found difficult w/ all our baggage. He gave us a lovely box of chocolates as a gift. We definitely would stay here again if we were to return to Bruges.
