They set up bleachers but only for the court closet to the walkway. The change room was large with lockers and private change room. They could have had more toilets though as I could see a line forming when the centre is busy. The only complaint I had was the room temperature was very warm but likely sweaty bodies would have contributed to that as well. It would be nice to also see additional food vendors but the Dairy Queen seemed very popular. Great access as there was ample free parking and close to the LRT as well.

The courts themselves are outstanding and the main gym itself will have spectacular hard wood floors as well as an indoor track along the upstairs. Drop in passes are comparable to the YMCA and they also offer summer camps as well as gymnastics classes. For those who wish to play some pick up, hit the birdie or spike some balls, definitely check out this new facility. An interesting note, every court also has electronic scoreboards!

I stood during a hockey tournament, I did not want to miss the plays. Westwood, has basic amenities, limited staircase seating which is not wheel chair accessible. Those w/ limited mobility can view the ice at ground level. The ice is well maintained (4 stars) Solid sound system (4 stars) The main lobby has three benches where you can sit before heading to the arenas viewing area. Visitors for two or three teams can put you elbow to elbow. There is No concession here, - no problem, just eat or feed the kids / yourself before hand !! BRING SNACKS ! If not, there are many food stops along the way to Westwood. The lobby has three vending machines. Coke products / Cold Drinks: Fanta sprite nestea water Nescafé coffee dispenser. Snack Vending machine : Doritos etc. Dressing rooms, there are four : Extra tight quarters. Nine year olds were elbow to elbow. Two bathrooms - two stalls in the ladies (when is wheelchair accessible) All in all, a solid, old school arena solid 3.5 - No extras, No bells, No whistles - unless, it's the referees ! Pretty sizable, its weird how half the pools in this city are tiny and the others are gigantic. I mistook the hot tub for a pool at first. Bad vision without my specs. Hot tub wasn't too hot but it might've been the day. Theres 3 pools I think. Kids, lanes and a diving area. This place has a slide and a lot more. In the swimming lanes, someone had an under water radio, which was weird but cool! Couldn't hear it above water, only below. I didn't see a sauna but there is a steam room. Every 40 seconds it was blasting heat into the room pshhh! Pshhh! I found it a bit tricky to find the shower by the steam but its probably just my bad eyes again.

When you need a break from skating laps, you can veer off into a Winter wonderland. This 400 meter meandering track weaves around a picturesque landscape where you can have a chill glide and let your imagination wander. After dark, the decorative lanterns with cutout patterns cast a magical glow onto the frozen course. It's open 10:00am-10:00pm The skate "shack" is now a gorgeous facility with lockers, nice bathrooms and fountains. Plenty of bench seating where you can change your skates. Stow you boots underneath. Floor to ceiling windows for viewing. Now if El Niño would cooperate and give us some freezing temperatures so we actually have ice.

I've always liked coming to Hawrelak Park. One year I was taking a summer class at UofA and I…read morewould walk here after class to enjoy the greenery and quiet space. Over the years, we've enjoyed the sites to have BBQs and gatherings. It's a spacious park and even with crowds, it never seems that busy (except during Heritage Days). Most recently I was here for the Rock Festival at the Amphitheatre. It's easy to find the white top and the walking from parking isn't far as it's central. Inside there was plenty of seating with a good view of the stage and those who brought their own lawn chairs could enjoy it from the outside where it was a bit warmer when the sun was out. There's a water fountain near the washrooms and lots of women stalls, although with this crowd, there was always a line up that moved fast. They also had porta potties. There were tents set up with vendors on one site, and food trucks on the other, and sometimes the walkway got crowded but I could walk around them. I enjoyed the event, and it got a bit chilly so I'm glad we also brought a blanket to keep warm!

This community league is in a nice neighbourhood next to a school. There is a large play park here…read more(made from wood), an large size outdoor skating rink with boards sitting area and nets, and a smaller skating rink on the side of the building. The skating rinks are well maintained by the staff at the community league who regularly clean the snow off the ice. They have some folding chairs and skate trainers but you have to be lucky if someone is in the building to allow you to borrow this. There is an indoor boot room where you can put your skates on, store your boots there, and skate directly to the rink from there. They also have 2 washrooms inside this boot room which can come in handy if you're there for an extended period of time. In addition to all that, there is also a large tobogganing hill beside this community league so you can play, skate, toboggan, all in one place! Lots of lighting around too so feels very safe. There is also a large parking lot next to the building so there is ample parking as well. Check this place our!

ERHL is a non-contact men's hockey league (although some teams have a few female players). I've…read moreplayed in the league for four or five seasons and had a ton of fun and met some cool people. The hockey is just your average beer league hockey, not too fast, not too slow and not too chippy. They have both a summer and winter league and I've played in both. I find the summer league is a bit rougher and players seem to be a little less responsible than the winter season. I think there are about 15 games in the summer season, plus playoffs, and 30 in winter, plus playoffs. In winter, the ice times are not ideal, so be prepared to play at 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and the occasional 7 a.m. weekend game. There is usually one game per week. The ice times in summer are much better, usually between 6-9 p.m. on week nights, with two games per week. The league has a newish website which has box scores, schedules, stats and standings. Pretty much everything you would need on the site. The refereeing is not bad. You just have to remember you're an amateur player that makes mistakes on the ice and they are amateur refs who make mistakes too. The league is also good at handling suspensions when they are necessary, which keeps things in check. Like any hockey league, you have the odd idiot on the ice, but that really can't be avoided ;) But I have never felt unsafe and only really felt like someone had intent to injure me, but it was dealt with appropriately.
