The Vancouver locations have always shown excellent customer service and have consistently respected the longstanding relationship we built. On the rare occasions when something unexpected forced me to cancel outside the allowable window, they were always understanding and never penalized me. I recently moved to Toronto and have now had three appointments at Blo Yorkville -- and unfortunately the experience has been very different. My appointment was for 6:15pm, scheduled around my daughter's birthday dinner. I also had a long-awaited furniture delivery set for 3-4pm which ran significantly late. I called Blo's Toronto main number to explain the situation and ask about my options, and was told I would be charged the full amount if I didn't show. Wanting to avoid that, I chose to leave the delivery and rushed to my appointment. I arrived at 6:10pm, five minutes early. There was only one stylist working, and she informed me she didn't even know about my appointment. She was still working on another client and estimated a 10-15 minute wait -- but based on what I saw, it would likely be longer. With the salon closing at 7pm and the stylist still needing to finish her current client, it was clear I wouldn't receive proper service. Despite the fact that I arrived on time and was physically present, Blo Yorkville still charged my credit card as a "no-show." I did not miss the appointment -- they simply had no stylist available for the booking they confirmed. This was deeply disappointing, especially compared to the exceptional service I've always received from Blo in Vancouver. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and reviews both their scheduling practices and their approach to customer care. Loyal clients should not be penalized for the salon's own staffing issues.

So I went out on a whim during the Civic holiday dialled around in Chinatown to see if I can walk in for an appointment. Let's be real, there is no day off in Chinatown. Lucky me! Jane was free on the first call, and I did not need to wait or book appointments! $22 for a women's cut with cash only! What what?!?! Remember to tip! I usually pay at least double for a haircut, and can I honestly say it's double the quality of what I get from Jane? Nope. Jane took an after pic of my haircut. I only wanted a basic B hair chop with minimal layers at the end and she nailed it. Whoops forgot to take the before pic for comparison. You'll just have to imagine the girl from the Ring, that's me, hair to my waist. Jane and I had a good chat. Her native tongue is Cantonese, and she's giving me tips on how to style my hair. She mentions now with the pandemic, her client base is much more diverse. For health and safety, she is always masked and I put on a transparent disposable salon gown. I was the only person there! Likely, people didn't know she kept the store opened on Civic holiday. The place is very spacious for one person operating the whole shop. Jane explains she operates all three chairs there and switching between chairs for the next client coming in so that the chair doesn't stay warm for the next person.

Lauren was patient and worked with me to find a suitable style. Throughout the appointment, she took the time to educate me about her process and my hair needs. Lauren is highly skilled, friendly and informative. The workspace is beautiful, clean, bright, and pleasurable. The rest of the staff seem very friendly as well. I am looking forward to visiting again for my future hair needs.

The result is so overly warm, it looks dark orange. I was told it would just be a toner and would wash out, but that hasn't happened. Instead of a refreshed balayage, my hair now looks completely different--darker, dull, and way overly brassy. This is not what I asked for, and it has ruined the dimensional color I had. I look sickly with this orange hair and the only option I have is either to bleach my hair again and damage it or darken it to a dark brown with no dimension. Either way I'll be waiting months to a year to start over and get the look I've been working towards. With this, they are not apologetic and don't take accountability. Don't go here!!

I have very long hair, just above belly button, and had previously thought about cutting it bc it was getting too long / weighing down. That said, I did not want to get my hair cut at a blow dry place. I just wanted a wash and some light curls. I go in, the stylist says my hair is too long to hold the blowout, recommends trimming it. I say a trim would be nice, thank you, no more than 2" please. After the wash, he brushes my hair and says "are you ready?" I get nervous bc why would I need to mentally prepare myself for a trim? So I stop to say please do not cut more than 2" and I show him where on my chest i want it to fall. I repeat this many times, and say I will be so upset if he cuts more, please do not cut more, no more than this length. He replies of course, do not worry, I'd never do you dirty. I can tell by how long it takes for him to cut the hair that it was a lot. He puts it in front of me and I immediately panic. I get so upset I want to cry , I say this is 6", what the hell did you do, I told you no more than two. He insists it is 3", but he's holding a full ponytails worth of my hair. I literally show him inch by inch how much he cut, but he stands by it and says it will look amazing. I'm so upset, but tell myself I wanted a cut anyway, so whatever. He then blow drys and curls it , but it's pretty uneven, so I go in the bathroom to finger comb it through furiously. I have to tell him to recurl one side bc it's going in opposite directions. I start to like the length, and calm down. I laugh about it with my friend and we joke about how this will be a funny story. I did give him a decent tip , and wasn't going to post about it because I thought, whatever things happen. The following morning though, once the curls drop -- and for context I have pin straight hair, never really style it -- and I look in the mirror. You can see by the photo alone how atrocious the cut it. He said he's cut hair for 10+ years, but how the hell could that be true when he was proud of that cut. I can't speak to other stylists, but the man did not respect what I asked for and gave me a really awful cut. I now have to pay more money to fix a haircut that happened against my consent. I understand people have bad days, and want to be empathetic to that, but I do also want to share my experience to make sure others do not experience the same.

He was the first, the best, and I can't seem to find anyone else to do the same level of expertise that he did. I wanted big sexy hair would bouncy curls and he 100% delivered and gave me amazing hair. It lasted up to 6 days and maintained the curl very well. He didn't use any hairspray (I don't like hairspray), just good quality products that made such a difference. He is the only one that used like 15 round brushes in my hair to give it that amazing curl - no other younger stylist I've seen since has done this technique and it clearly shows and matters. He is worth the price, which I find extremely reasonable. If I lived in Toronto, I would 100% get Beni-blowouts every week. I cannot shutup about what a good job he did and ever stylist I've seen since, once I show them the picture of my hair, they come close but they never achieve what he achieved.
