My wife and I frequent Eureka Springs on a fairly regular basis and one of my favorite places to go used to be the silly chile store. Last night at a little past 5 pm i walked up to the door and was greeted by a fellow basically blocking the door as I approached he quickly reached in side the door and flipped his sign to closed. Now I understand that maybe he was closing the store but he was quite rude about it I told him he lost a sale and he responded oh well.... So i wont go back ever. read more

If you're into hot sauces (which I am) then this place is a "must see". Not only will you find a sauce for any taste but you'll get a good laugh at some of the names of the sauces. Be careful of you little ones, some of those names and labels are a little adult oriented. The only drawback I have to this place is the owners insistence on you trying their free samples. The people working there seem to be really nice people and I don't mind if they bring the free samples to my attention but please don't chase me down to hand one to me. read more

This place has nearly every kind of hot sauce and salsa you'd ever want or desire. They even have several other hot and spicy themed items such as popcorn, nuts, and yes, even spicy chocolate. This is the only place I've been able to find several salsas. It's also a great place to shop for gifts. Unfortunately, the only detractor is that it's kind of pricey. read more

My sister-in-law and her husband LOVE the candied jalapeños available in this Eureka Springs shop, but I go for the hot sauces. My husband's not the piquancy-loving foodie that I am, but he's really fond of the "gussied up" cream cheese spreads that this place offers. We have a second home in Eureka Springs -- a 1919 log cabin out on nearby Lake Lucerne. We had a blast on our last trip up, in that my sister-in-law and brother-in-law joined us for leisurely lunch out on the deck at the cabin. If you are looking for something low on the Scoville scale or high then stop in. The atmosphere is great and the employees are very nice and friendly. They have a wide selection of hot sauces and bbq sauces for all of your cooking needs. I would recommend the .357 line of sauces if you are looking for a good well rounded hot sauce but they also have the more adventurous Diablo line of sauces. read more

Being a pro-am pepper head ( I enter pepper eating contests), I am always interested in stores that cater to what I love to eat. This store more than fulfills that need! All the latest trends in hot pepper salsa's, mixes, dips, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many varieties of the 'ghost pepper' sauces. Since the 'ghost pepper is just over one-million scovilles very few places carry it. If you are a true pepper-head and not a sissy tongue, this is your one-stop shop! read more

I have a very nice collection of Hot Sauces from all over. I stared in 1995. I have never been in a shop where the staff / owner actually knew what they were talking about and offered samples of anything (except the stupid hot novelty items). Chit chat was very pleasant, no dust on the bottles (seems to be an issue at most hot sauce stores) and they really know their sauces. They even gave me kudos for having tasted "The Source" (look it up, just plain stupid hot. 7.1 million scoville units) before and lived to tell about it. Super place, just can't say enough. Went in just to look and walked out with 4 bottles of hot sauce. Oh yeah, you have to try the Raspberry Wasabi Mustard!! read more

On my visit to Eureka Springs I was happy to find a place with fresh limeades! When I ordered 4 limeades totaling over $10, the owner was sure to inform me that she would lose money on my transaction if I used my debit card. I had no cash and she was very irritated. Although I felt this was a rude reaction, I told her to not worry about the limeades and we would be on our way. She proceeded to make the limeades anyway (and swiping my debit card) while lecturing me to bring cash or check next time. There will be no next time. read more

We stop in here every time we visit Eureka Springs. They have a huge selection of hot sauces and a great staff who will help you pick just what you are looking for. Don't have any clue what you want? They are more then happy to provide samples of a variety of items. Our favorite....the candied jalapeños. Serve them up on a cracker with some cream cheese for a spicy, sweet appetizer. It's a little on the pricy side so they get 4 stars instead of 5 but we will keep coming back when we're in town. read more

Loved It! My husband and I were in Eureka Springs for our Anniversary over the Super Bowl weekend. We stopped in on Saturday late afternoon simply because my husband adores all things hot, the minute we walked in the man working there offered a couple samples and good conversation, we ended up buying the Red Pepper Ancho Chili jelly that we sampled and then we left...that night we regretted not buying the Candied Jalapenos and more of the Ancho Chili for family back home so on Sunday we went back,! We drove through the quaint downtown area and the Silly Chili was closed, we decided to do some other shopping and try a bit later, hoping to get lucky...we went back at just the right time, and they were open for just a couple of hours before the Superbowl. We didn't mess around that time, buying 2 more jars of the Ancho Chili jelly and the Candied Jalapenos. We're already planning to stop in and restock during our summer trip to Branson. read more

We make two to three trips per year to Eureka Springs because it is a great place to wind down and the people there are so friendly as a general rule. We have been to the Silly Chile a few times, the first being an OK experience because we were wide eyed with new things to look at. The next trip was so-so and the third time we said we wouldn't go back due to the rude and just a little better than you attitude of the shop staff. Well we were in town over Memorial Weekend and for some reason we did go back and it was the icing on the cake! The first thing I noticed was little signs posted by the dozens to not take pictures.....OK I can remember and do not need to be reminded every two feet on your shelves. This is not an Art Gallery! The topper was when the lady asked where we were staying and my wife replied "Eureka Springs Treehouses" and in a really snotty reply said "Oh I have something better than that" and handed us a Loft with Balls flyer. First off...that is certainly not the way to drum up business and second it is far from better. We will not waste our time in this shop again. Maybe New York or Chicago would be a better place for them to be with their "better than you" attitudes! Won't be back period! read more
