Our captain Brad, was great. We jammed out to some 90's grunger era tunes. We talked about fishing around the US. Brad knew the names of all the beautiful volcanoes in the Aleutian range looming in the distance. We caught a lot of Halibut! The boat was pretty deluxe. I wanted to live on it. Brad filet'd the fish on the way back, and a fish processing boy was waiting for us at the dock. Getting the fish vacuum-sealed and frozen was a cinch! We had a great time on Silver Fox Charter. We were out nearly six hours for the half day trip. Captain Kenny made sure we fished where we were sure to pull out lots of halibut. He was up beat, honest, and a pleasure to work with. When we returned to shore he arranged with Homer Fish Processor to have our fillets skinned, vacuumed packed, flash frozen, and put in insulated freezer box. The half day charter was $185. Plus tax. And the processing was $36.00 for 14lbs of halibut. Captain Kenny suggested taking a fillet to Pattie's where they grilled it for us on the spot. Delicious! Went on a charter last week with Silver Fox Charters we had the best day of the year I'm sure!!! Fish caught was 265 pounds one 116 pound and a few 30-35 pound halibut. I am extremely disappointed with the customer service provided by silver fox. Although we did have a great fishing experience with Captain Mike and skipper Boomer, the desk staff at silver fox are complete a holes. The biggest issue is add on costs that aren't made clear to the participant. When I questioned them about these deceptive add on costs, I was treated like an idiot that should know about all charters in Homer and their offerings. Clearly, as with most people, many do not know this information. I do not recommend this charter just based on their desk staff. Completely unacceptable. read more

Silver Fox charters is by far top notch ! I came out there from Maui to fish for three days. I was referred to Silver Fox Charters by the Hillstrand family from the Deadliest Catch. I was more then impressed with the staff. Boomer and Jim were very accommodating and showed my dad and I an excellent trip. We caught our limit each day! I am def booking my trip for next year! Silver Fox was amazing! The captain found great fishing spots and we caught our max of halibut, as well as a few sharks and a bat ray! The crew was so helpful and they had our fillets ready to go right off he boat. We are some that night and shipped the rest home. Would definitely use them again! read more

Booked a charter with Silver Fox / Goofy Moose three months ago and just returned from a very successful outing yesterday. Day started early @6:45am and we came back close to 3 pm. My dad and I were on a six pack boat with another pair of fisherman along with the captain and first mate. First stop was a place the captain hadn't fished in 10 yrs. didn't take long before we started getting hook ups. After landing my 28" fish and my Dad's over 28", we moved to another spot where the other fishermen got their 28s. Moved again and got my over and my dad's under before finally finishing out the day with the other pair of fishermen's overs. Along the way we caught and released several halibut anyone would have been proud to catch. Also caught a few other species and learned about the ecosystem of the Cook Inlet. Capt Jim and Boomer were the nicest crew I've ever fished with. Extremely friendly, talkative, and helpful!! I've fished all over the Carribean, Gulf Coast, and Pacific - hands down would fish with them again. read more

Skipper Jim was recommended to us by family who knew him from their fishing days 10 plus years ago. He came highly recommended then and clearly doesn't disappoint now either. Our full day combo trip was the highlight of our Alaska trip. Jim and his deckhand Boomer were a true pleasure. They knew their stuff, were very personable and were just wonderful with our 12 year old nephew who was determined to try and catch that big, derby winning fish. Jim and Boomer played along and really made our fishing trip a memorable one. We caught our fish but also came home with many stories we will tell for years to come. We were paired with another family of 3 who had been on two previous fishing trips this same week (1 with a different company) but they had also enjoyed Jim and Boomer so much they requested them for their third trip out too. The great reviews posted by others was the reason we chose Silver Fox for our outing, but cannot comment on the great fishing since we never left shore. We scheduled the charter for the full day months ago. We were told we would receive email confirmation. When it did not arrive we called again. and were told "the captain didn't write it down", so we reconfirmed and were told we'd receive a discount on the price due to their error and were again told we'd get email confirmation. We received email confirmation of the price discount, but nothing else. Thinking we were OK we showed up at 6 AM on he appointed day and were told we were booked for two days later. Because our schedule would not allow us to stay for two more days we were unable to take that charter. We looked in vain for another charter for that day and the following day, but everything was booked. So in the end we drove all the way to Homer for nothing due to a very disappointing mistake by the Silver Fox people. And the Silver Fox people we dealt with blamed the whole episode on our failure to check our email when there never was an email confirming the date as they had repeatedly promised. When we pointed that out their answer was "it must have bounced back". Anyone who knows email knows that if it "bounced back" they would have received the notification of the bounce, not us. Had they sent the email they promised we could have corrected their error. My take on the whole fiasco was that the boss found out that we had been given a reduced price due to the first error and set it up so they could take a full price charter both days - the one day we should have gone and the day we couldn't go. They may be great fishermen - we'll never know - but they're jerks when trying to remedy their own error. read more

The problem I had with Silver Fox was that I was only able to get the large boat for one day, their other days were booked for months, I chartered the whole boat which they gave me a discount on. We were a family group my three sons , three grandchildren , nephew my best friend and myself. This was August 2018. The weather was crappy , Silver Fox's fault, we still went out. Very happy we did. First rule in fishing with a guide always listen to them, unless you are a master guide. The captain told us the large halibut were hours out but that the water was a lot worse out there. I listened and all of us caught nice fish in the rain, damn Silver Fox for the weather. We are very happy with Silver Fox and their crew. Mostly the wonderful young lady who I thought was going to be my next ex-wife. She was very nice and professional . read more

We used Silver Fox Charters in mid-June 2018 and although they took us to where we could catch fish, it was a miserable trip and I don't recommend them. First of all because there are no safety rails on the boat we felt very unsafe when we were fishing. Nothing to hold onto. Safety life vests inside down below the inside cabin under a bench covered with tons of crap. The inside cabin leaks from above and only 2 people can sit during heavy seas and those standing have no handrails to hold onto. No food provided. Lastly, they seem to have a deal with a fish packaging company to pick up your fish. They charged $350/pp for a rust-bucket no-customer-service fishing trip. Don't settle for this type of service. read more

Had a wonderful time fishing with silver fox. Went halibut fishing with Captain Jim and skipper Boomer and could not be happier with our trip. Didn't catch the greatest sized fish but got our limit easily. Jim and Boomer worked very hard so that we would have a successful and fun time. Absolutely worst charter I've been on. We purchased a 3/4 day for a 6 person boat, and were told to meet at the office at 6:15 am. After checking in we were told the boat would leave at 7:00am... that DID NOT happen. As a matter of fact, the boat left at 7:45am. The condition of the boat was completely unsatisfactory. I can only imagine when it was last cleaned. The walls were stained just as badly as the floors. I have never seen such utter lack of respect and cleanliness on board a charter. On top of that, we were packed onto a larger boat with 19 (!) passengers as opposed to their falsely advertised of 6. 2 unhappy customers who had booked for the 6person boat walked away and demanded a refund. The front desk lady explained to us that there was plenty of room for everyone and that it was actually a 33 person boat. Clearly she has probably never been on a halibut charter with 17 people. Lines were constantly tangled, and people were being shuffled back and forth like cattle. Very unprofessional. The deckhands were slow to assist in hooking bait, as they clearly were busy catering to an upper class family of 4. The captain started the engine at noon to return to shore. So let's see... Leave dock late at 7:45am and return to the docks at 1? We paid for a 3/4 day only to receive a HALF DAY!! We were also told that fish processors would be picking up our fish as soon as we arrived. That also did not happen. After 10 minutes of waiting in 75 degree weather, we left with our bag of fish. DO NOT WASTE your time or money with this business. read more
