I was recently left a ring in a will but it needed to be made a size larger in order for me to wear it. When it was returned, the join was incomplete having two very sharp edges. There was also an obvious chip on the underside centre of the large stone.
The owner of the shop, who was on holiday at the time of the resizing, said I had damaged the ring myself and that it "wasn't worth anything anyway!". He also added "I could have just changed the stone for a different one & you wouldn't have known the difference! This jeweller clearly assumed all large stones mounted in silver must just be glass.
I would advise anyone to take images of their jewellery before taking it to any jeweller & make sure they have the correct item returned. The owner actually said I had brought the ring to the shop to be repaired because it was "cracked" - although this 'crack' was the soldered expanded joint done by the shop.
I was also sworn at several times in front of several people.
I like to support small, independent businesses. They also usually care about their customers. However, this has been the worst experience I've ever had from any retailer - there was feigned friendliness initially but that soon changed when, justifiably, I challenged the situation, his blatant lies and obnoxious, defensive stance. He was totally unprofessional, rude and aggressive which made me as a woman, feel physically threatened.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RETAILER: I was subjected to abuse, lied to and sworn at; my ring was damaged & I was told worthless. No one has the right to presume & decide the value of your property - especially when monetary value was never requested or required in the first instance.
It's unfortunate that all small businesses who often have to struggle to stay afloat suffer because of the actions of the odd rotten apple: a business owner who puts himself way before anyone else - & least his customers. read more
