The photos online ARE NOT the way this place actually looks. The photos depict a prestige outdoor parking area with simple landscape. This is not what you will find here. The photos depict a crystal clear Olympic size pool. That is not what you find here. The photos depict a nice comfortable, updated room. That is not what you find here. The staff is incredibly rude. I don't have much experience with Indian people but these were the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my entire life. By a landslide. Our room had bugs flying all over and they couldn't fathom why I didn't want to stay in the room. I knew these slum lord type of business owners weren't going to give me. Refund. So instead I asked for a copy of my receipt so I could dispute it with my bank. They tried to tell me I was not entitled to a copy of my receipt. The old man starting yelling at me in his native language as if I could Understand. I politely explained I certainly am entitled to a copy of my receipt, with my signature, with my credit card info. The old lady owner walks around the doors being nosy and creepy. The place reeks so bad. There's trash and bugs everywhere. I recently stayed a few nights at Avid Hotel in Ocala…read more The first thing I'd mention is that it's in close proximity to downtown (like a 5 minute drive) but isn't actually downtown. I had never stayed at an Avid and would compare it to Hilton's Tru brand. Small, simply appointed rooms, great for business travelers. Which, as it turns out, is exactly what I am so it worked out for me. I got a king room and it was basically a bed, desk with chair, small fridge, a small area to hang a few clothing pieces, and the bathroom. There's no dresser to put your clothes in or anything (fine, but worth noting). They did have an iron and ironing board which I was happy to make use of during my stay. Like most hotels, they do have a nice snack shop which I made use of for snacks and light lunches. The service was lovely throughout my stay. They also have complimentary breakfast from 6:30-9:30am every morning. I took advantage of it one morning and enjoyed a bagel and schmear, scrambled eggs, and a greek yogurt. They also have a coffee station that's available and well equipped at any hour of the day or night. For solo traveling girlies--it felt like a safe set up. The elevators are in close proximity to the lobby/front desk. The hotel itself is on a busy, well frequented road, and the parking lot is wonderfully well lit. Get to it!

So that coupled with a $386 price tag for one night gave me great expectations. Right out of the gatem the trumped-up antique piano was a bomb. No self-respecting pianist worth their salt would be caught dead playing such an atrociously neglected and out of tune instrument. The website said we would be offered complementary wine or beer. Never happened. We paid extra $40 for two people in room, yet only one key. If you plan to sit at the table on the very hot (with no fans) balcony, take some cleaning wipes with you as it was filthy. The room door has a mounting for security chain, but no chain. The drapes just barely cover the glass on the windows. Disconcerting for sure. The wood floor is sticky beneath your bare feet. Yuck! Bathroom lighting is so poor you only hope you got your eyebrow pencil somewhere close to your eyebrows. The toilet is so low it must have been meant for children, oh wait, no children in the big house. Cheapest toilet paper ever, your fingers go right through it! The no slip strips on the bottom of the tub were loose and flying in the breeze. Safety first! A book about Floridian painters, antique or not, is only of value if one can actually turn the pages. When it is falling apart literally at the seams it is classified as junk! The cook, "E" was delightful and went above and beyond expectation. The layer of dust on every windowpane in the dining room was a little gross. Being old and decrepit does not qualify as "eloquent" , and is not worth the exorbitant price tag.

Floors boards were cupped, and both the doors to the shower and toilet would not close due to the house settling. The doors to the upstairs common balcony would not easily open and all the locks were damaged or missing. The saving grace was the bed was super comfy! They gave us an old boat, radio didn't work, and top was extremely hard to retract which we had to do before going thru an underpass upriver. The boat acted weird but 1 hour down the river the boat completely quit! Called and they sent Todd an hour upstream (nice guy) to us. He couldn't get the boat started, so had to pull us back to their dock. So 3 hours spent on the water with only one hour of our 4 hour rental enjoyable. Todd assured us over and over they would make this right, we would not be charged, not our fault, etc. Todd did offer us another boat, but it was 3:30 and I'm sure they would not have waited for us to get our other 3 hours, I would not want to be on the river after dark! It's now March 11, we have returned to TN the end of Feb and still no credit for our broken down boat. After countless phone calls, the owner Stan finally agreed on March 6 to refund half our 300$ spent. It's now March 11 and no money has been refunded. Be careful renting from this company, and don't let them give you the old brown pontoon. If Todd had told us the policy was "no refund" we would have got another boat before we left the end of February!

I brought wheel chairs but it wasn't practical to use them. That being said the rooms were very clean and it was quiet, they have strict rules, no guests, no smoking, but this was exactly what I wanted (no trouble). The motel is near enough to Ocala businesses that anything you need is only a short drive away. They take credit cards but I think they prefer cash. The cleaners came and reset the room while we were out. The bathroom was just enough. This was a great respite from our powerless home. Our big complaint would be no extra seating. I was happy to find a fridge and microwave inside. We bought some Pizza the first night and got 4 meals out of it. I was not unhappy. I would be scared to stay at a hotel where criminals stay, this was not that. I would return for another storm, hopefully not needed. If you came for an event and were busy, it's perfect for that. I told her no one had told me this at all, no one had mentioned it and there were no signs anywhere that said that. She said it was "common knowledge". She then followed us to our rooms unknowingly and told us we had too many people, even though she literally JUST told us, we had not even had the chance to leave. She then proceeded to tell us she would check the water to see if we were lying to which I happily told her to go ahead and she did, saw we weren't lying and told us she would give us a refund minus 60 dollars because we had "been there all day." I told her to check what time we had checked in because it had been no longer than 6 hours. She did and it had been exactly 6 hours so she then raised the reduction to 88 dollars. So we paid 88 dollars for my grandmother and father to stay in a room the size of my bathroom for 6 hours as my brother, boyfriend and I literally had not been there the entire time. She was extremely rude and not understanding or empathetic at all. 0/10.
