I moved to MI in November and had a v difficult time finding a new mental health team due to waitlists and the overall struggles that come with starting over in that department. For context, my background/history: I have had therapy on and off since 2007, diagnosed bipolar 1 in 2018, also struggle with PTSD and anxiety. I'm a recovering alcoholic (4 yrs sober). I have been on medication consistently since my diagnosis in 2018. So, I have plenty to compare them to... I was on multiple waitlists after my move and HV was the first to have a NP available, which was a relief because I was already on several medications. I had low expectations based on reviews and my experience with NPs over the years. The first time I met with the NP assigned to me, Taneesha, it was virtual. This was November. I have *never* felt as heard and cared for by a NP. She did not rush me or immediately start trying to change things. I ended up having an emergency shortly after that and she was immediately and effectively helpful. It meant a lot to me, especially since it was the week of Christmas. I want to point out that most places I've had experience with would have sent me to the ER or charged a massive fee for the inconvenience to them. HV did not charge me anything for this. I have met with her only a couple times since and the one time she made a change to my meds, she took a day to consider options and consult with a Dr before making any suggestions. The thought and care she has shown me is rare in this field and I'm extremely grateful to have her. I trust her. As for therapy - that waitlist was longer. :( I originally wanted a female therapist, but compromised to get in with someone faster. I had planned on eventually switching to a female; but after seeing Adam for a couple months, I've decided he's a keeper. Much like Taneesha, he doesn't treat me like just another appointment. His efforts/attention are intentional and thoughtful - I am very appreciative of that. He is also flexible with me appointment-wise and that means a lot to me because of who I am. IYKYK My experience with their administrative staff has been minimal, mostly just billing and appointment setting. I will say they seem disorganized right now and their offices still aren't open for in-person service. But I've never experienced rudeness, etc. Ultimately, my time with HV has been unmatched and I have experienced two involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations, one very expensive four-month-long outpatient hospitalization, and dozens of therapists/NP/psychiatrists over the years. The psych clinic can be that much-needed Schwarzenegger who will protect you and pump. you. up. so you can continue to protect yourself. The protocol goes something like this: You first call to schedule a consultation appointment. You will more than likely talk to John who is down to earth, calming, and professional. The consultation consists of filling out a bunch of paperwork and a 300+ question survey which helps them determine your mental health needs and to match you with a person who is best suited for those. This is pretty stress-free and involves you touching a touch-screen a bunch of times while reflecting on all the crappy stuff going on in your life for the past month. This little jaunt down memory lane will cost you $40. After that, it takes usually about three weeks to schedule your first appointment but once you're in, getting weekly appointments is easy peasy. If you have BCN grad care, your co-pay is about $20 which is glorious compared to the $150+ per hour you'd be paying out of pocket. My experiences here have been almost all positive. The therapists are generally grad or post-grad students who are doing their 'residency' at U of M. The good news is: 1) they're usually young and inspired, ready to make a difference in the world, really wanting to learn from you and be there for you 2) as a grad student, they are more or less your peers, which makes talking about "young adult" stuff comfortable and relatable 3) since they're at U of M you know they're they're at the top, if not near the top, of their field The bad news is 1) most of them leave after about a year which means if you want stable long-term therapy, you will need to get a new therapist (the upshot to this? you can try out different therapists without feeling guilty about ditching your last one) 2) since they are students, they may not have as much experience as more seasoned veterans 3) there is only one psychiatrist on staff, getting an appointment with her is hard, and I didn't have the best rapport with her (I got the sense she was a little judgmental and she was quick to pile on various medications without talking about other supplements or life changes) As a person who is generally very DIY about taking care of myself, stubborn, and always wanting to stress my independence and self-reliance, this was a surprisingly beneficial and comforting outlet for when life was just too much to handle. So if you're feeling worn out, bummed out, wounded, or pissed off, the staff here will give you a bandage, kiss your boo-boo, and teach your how to fight gravity. Affordable. Effective. Empowering. If you're even flirting with the idea of talking to someone and getting support, this is a fantastic place for a first-timer (even if you might be resistant to the whole "therapy" idea).

I've had 3 traumatic events in my lifetime and the most recent was from surgery at U of M Hospital, this surgery was in 2/2025. Knowing from previous traumatic experiences I was going down the dark hole of depression, so I moved quickly to get back in therapy. I have been with my therapist since April 2025, and due to my depression I chose to do virtual appointments, but since I am better I will meet her in her office for the first time next week. I'm very excited. Getting therapy can be very positive if you have the right therapist for your situation. What I have learned is if you DO NOT have a connection with therapist, then you need to change until you feel you have found the right therapist. Good luck!

The director is focused on profits and maximizing the number of clients not the quality of care. This puts most of the providers in a position of taking on many clients and seeing them without focused thorough care due to their own anxiety. If you find someone here you like, stick with them until they leave because trust me they eventually will. Although you may have a relationship with your provider the director believes you are $$ that he is entitled to from marketing so you may have to insist on keeping your therapist when they leave. The leadership here is legal but not ethical. Be well and be persistent. Also note the culture is mono- they dont explicitly shun people but are covertly ableist, racists and sexist.

What is especially great about this place is the areas of specialty among the therapists. They deal with a range of family issues -- single parent families, divorce, children who are deaf, women who are pregnant, children with learning disabilities. This is a great resource if you want to talk to someone who knows a lot about what you are going through. Unfortunately, it might be hard to be paired up with a therapist you click with who also takes your health insurance.

I came to an appointment with Milanovich for cognitive testing. This was something offered and…read morerequested by a relative. In the middle of the test, Dr. Milanovich started to talk about his belief in God and jesus. He added in a Rorschach test to the testing as well, which afterwards had written that I saw elaborate meanings in the ink shapes. I didn't understand, especially why these things would be combined with the other tests in that way. Since I suspected these things, I had the same data re-evaluated by a professional at the University of Michigan who has been in practice for 40 years, and who has a law degree as well, as well as experience training in different kinds of psychotherapy at U of M. The second professional made none of the same conclusions, and expressed that it was beyond him that Milanovich deviated from HIPPA standards in some way. He expressed concerns about the Rorschach testing, as the way the test was conducted had unusual features, but this was not something I was familiar with, in any case. Altogether I am wondering if Milanovich's religious and personal sensibilities are at play in his testing, and also concerned about any circular mentalities that could be at play in his practice. I don't know quite what to do.

I have been unable to pay the deposit or confirm the appointment. Overall, communication is very poor and it was a very unprofessional experience. I will be seeking another neuropsychologist for my needs.

She also keeps it pretty real. If you are trying to tap dance around something to make yourself look good, she will keep you in check. I like her a lot.
