Out of all of them, Willett ended up being our favorite. We had Michael as our tour guide, and he was fantastic. The tour felt a little different from the others because we got to taste different bourbons throughout the tour instead of all at once at the end. Michael was gregarious, funny, and a great storyteller. He kept everyone engaged while sharing the history of the distillery, the bourbon-making process, and plenty of entertaining stories along the way. One of my favorite parts was seeing all of the photos of the distillery cats at the beginning of the tour. As cat lovers, we absolutely loved that. This distillery has clearly been blessed by some very cute feline employees! We enjoyed tasting the different bourbons, and while the gift shop wasn't huge, it had some really unique items. We even brought home a catnip toy for our two kitties. If you're visiting the Bardstown area, I highly recommend adding Willett to your list. It was easily our favorite distillery experience of the trip.

The majority of our group became friends while attending Purdue University together--Boiler Up! We were excited to learn that Log Still's owner, Wally Dant, is also a Purdue alumnus and has even produced a Purdue-labeled bourbon. On the day of our visit, we had spent the day touring several distilleries in the Bardstown area, with Log Still serving as our final stop. Unfortunately, our schedule made it impossible to arrive in time for the last scheduled tasting. After reaching out in advance, the Log Still team graciously adjusted their plans and stayed late to accommodate our group. When we arrived, Wally was there waiting to welcome us personally. He spent nearly two hours with us, providing an in-depth tour of the property, explaining the bourbon-making process, and sharing the rich history of both the Dant family and the property itself. Learning about the family's contributions to bourbon dating back to the industry's early days added a unique and meaningful dimension to the experience. The facilities at Log Still are truly first-class. They strike an impressive balance between honoring bourbon's heritage and embracing modern innovation. Beyond the distillery itself, the entire property has been thoughtfully designed to create a complete destination experience. It is evident that great care has gone into every aspect of the campus. The bourbon produced at Log Still is exceptional, and their gin is equally impressive. More importantly, the hospitality and passion demonstrated by Wally and his team elevated the visit far beyond a typical distillery tour. Their willingness to stay late, share their knowledge, and provide such a personal experience made this one of the highlights of our Bourbon Trail journey. A sincere thank you to Wally and the entire Log Still team for your hospitality and for sharing your passion for bourbon with our group. I loved learning about the process it takes to make bourbon and how Wilderness Trail got started and differentiated itself from other brands. The tasting at the end was delicious (don't forget to go back to the main lobby and get your bourbon ball) and there was a bar where you could grab a drink and cozy up by the fireplace and watch a game. So, for fellow Yelper's, this is about as clear cut as yer' gonna git it. Penn's Sore is not, let me repeat "NOT" just in Kentucky, it's in BFE, KY. It is totally not worth your drive from out of town to visit, and especially not to complain about the hours they keep. Yes, this store has been in business for 176 years (true), but you will be lucky if you find the place open even if the hours do say 1-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday. When they are open, you may get lucky and find a candy bar to purchase, but there is mostly art work, Christmas ornaments, cards, etc. They hold car shows and the like, plus what I'd consider called Pickin' on the Porch, or different bands playing outside and bringing the community together. Which are advertised locally, and occasionally on their FB page. Penn's Store is most definitely a landmark, and the fine folks of Gravel Switch (all 11 of them) are flattered by it. Give the Penn's a call next time you're passing through if you're wanting to stop in. Otherwise, it's a cute little wooden shack, and there's always a cat or two or three running around, and you can see the outside of the building. If no one answers, guess what? I'll bet you can. You're a super-genius! You guessed correctly. No one is there, and they aren't open.

We travelled 4 hours to visit this store. We stayed three nights in a nearby town. On Saturday…read moremorning, they posted to their Facebook inviting people to come out and visit them at the store that day. So we drove out to the store on Saturday. Their listed hours are 11AM-6PM. They are "country hours". We got to the store at 11AM. The store was not open yet. That was okay. There was a nearby geocache in their parking lot we were going to check out. Two other cars had come and gone. One of those cars was from Texas. They left disappointed. We gave up and left the store at 12 PM. While back at the hotel, I called the store 3 times. No answer. I emailed the store on Facebook. No answer. We drove four hours for this. So we decided to drive out one more time. The second time, we arrived at the store around 3:45PM. The store was still not open. Again, two more cars had come and gone. At 4PM, we had given up and went back to the hotel. I understand these hours were "country hours". But because of the Facebook post, that I have attached, I expected the store to be open at some point during the day. It took a lot to keep entertained in this small town area. This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip. We spent a total of an hour and 43 minutes driving to/from a store that was never open when they advertised they would be.
