Pretty good ribs, although I like a little less liquid smoke taste on my BBQ. Beans and fries were hot and tasty.

We stopped here on the way to NC based on the only two Yelp reviews available - not a huge sampling…read moreof patrons, so we hoped for the best. Tl;dr - it was one of the best BBQ joints we've ever tried. This really is what you might imagine a small Kentucky town BBQ house to be - tiny building, hand-lettered signs, a happy Porky Pig-style painting inviting you to feast upon his flesh, etc. It was unassuming, rustic, and by a big lake. Ask to eat on the deck if the weather is right. On a Wednesday evening, there were only a couple of other families there and we were seated immediately. The food came out quickly. Let's review what my friend and I ordered: Fried catfish - I can't imagine doing catfish much better than this. Crispy breaded crust, melt-in-your-mouth interior. Pulled pork - neither of us are pulled pork connoisseurs, but I ate every bit of what they gave me, which is rare for me. Tender with no lumps of fat, and the sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and savory for me. (I don't like BBQ at all if it's too sweet.) Fried okra - a dish easy to get wrong - often too gummy, stringy or mushy. This okra had a crunch to the outside and the right amount of tenderness on the inside. We both finished our portions off. Fried taters - sliced potatoes cooked kind of like home fries, crispy exterior. My friend added spicy BBQ sauce to his and loved it. Baked potato - huuuuge with butter and sour cream, not too dry. We drank Ale-8, which they had on tap, which made my friend happy. (I'm more meh about it, but I keep giving it second chances. If you're from north of the Mason-Dixon, it's like ginger ale.) The server was very attentive and helpful, and a cook popped out of the kitchen when we were paying to ask how we liked it. When we said we loved it, she gave us a Fonzie-style double thumbs up. We are returning to eat here on our journey back to Louisville in two days. Totally worth the extra mile off the interstate.

You can basically seat yourself and ordering was easy at a walk-up counter. This place would be a lot of fun in the evening with friends and drinks. For two of us, I ordered ala cart items, pulled pork (pork butt), Spicy Smoked Sausage, Mac Daddy Mac n Cheese, Pit Baked Beans, and we got some collard greens for free. We had three types of BBQ sauce; Smokehouse JuJu, Bourbon Brown Sugar, and Kansas City BBQ. Honestly, it was hard to tell them apart from each other. The pulled pork was good but a little dry. Glad we had sauce for it. The sausage had a nice touch with some cheese chunks inside. That was new to me. It did have a spicy kick to it. The baked beans were spice too. My daughter said the Mac n Cheese was the best she had ever had. Ever!

The pulled pork was dry and crispy, like carnitas. The turkey was decent and the only stars were the delicious jalapeño cheddar sausage and the friendly and helpful staff!!!! Definitely not worth the price point. So bummed. Love Fieri's other restaurants, but damn...this was a let down.

There's just something about Against the Grain that takes me back to my first years in Louisville…read more It embodies that weird, wonderful Louisville spirit. It's creative with a sense of joy, irreverent, one of a kind. And I'm happy to see it last in its spot next to Slugger Field. I got to visit recently when a bunch of friends were in town. We ended up visiting during trivia night, which added a fun twist to the experience. Our team, The Electric Sheep, got second place! And along with the fun vibes, we had great food and beer. I got The Smokehouse OG, which is its pulled pork sandwich served on a Cuban roll. If you like pulled pork, you'll like this sandwich, though typical to their fashion, AtG puts a twist on it with its Brown Note BBQ Sauce. We had to get the pork belly on a stick -- a menu fave. And for my beer, I tried the El Nopal Mexican lager (cracked up at the name) and Cold Ass Beer red ale. AtG is a Louisville original that's not to be overlooked.

I got the burger in special, the Dirty Burger. Pretty standard burger dressed with their "not so secret" sauce and fancy pickle. Super solid, very well executed. In the words of Samuel L. Jackson, this is a tasty burger! The location is pretty tough to beat with how convenient it is, and how close it is to all downtown has to offer. The atmosphere is industrial but relaxed. The staff was so wonderful and personable. Will definitely be back!
