I hired Simms Showers to represent me in an employment‑related matter and while the legal outcome was partially successful, the firm's communication and billing practices caused months of unnecessary stress. I paid a substantial retainer and was told I would receive monthly or quarterly invoices. Instead, I received no invoices for eight months, despite multiple requests. During that time, my retainer was quietly depleted without any notice or opportunity to review charges as they accrued.
When I finally pressed the issue, I was told the problem was due to a "software setting" that had supposedly prevented invoices from being sent. That explanation did not address why the issue wasn't investigated when I first raised it, nor why my repeated requests for updated invoices went unanswered. By the time the firm finally provided the missing invoices--months after the work was performed--I had no meaningful ability to verify or question the charges, and my contractual right to object within fifteen days had been rendered impossible.
I want to be clear: I have no reason to believe the firm padded charges or acted dishonestly. My disappointment is entirely about the lack of communication, the failure to provide timely invoices, and the surprise depletion of my retainer. These are basic professional obligations, and they matter. Had invoices been provided as required, I would have paid the full amount without hesitation. Instead, I was left with a large balance I had no fair opportunity to review.
After weeks of trying to resolve the issue, I ultimately agreed to pay half of the remaining balance simply to end the emotional burden of the dispute. But the experience left me deeply disappointed. Clients deserve transparency, timely communication, and the ability to understand and review charges as they occur. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with Simms Showers. read more
