I do like shopping at Simons. The Simons in Edmonton (Edmonton Mall)/North Vancouver (BC) are way bigger than the Simons here. Simons has some pretty good selections at a super reasonable price. The store is clean and neatly organized. The store is located inside Core Mall. I would walk by it every time I go through the +15 here. Good quality clothing for an inexpensive price. read more

Wow. Been to this location twice and each time pricing and selection of clothes is fantastic. Wide range of styles for kids and adults. There is also a restaurant located here and even a home furnishing section. Staff is hit and miss for me hence the 4 stars but if you're looking for well made clothes can't go wrong here at Simons. read more

Well, I guess I had set myself for a higher expectation then what I saw! This was touted to be a special Simons as its being housed in a Historical Building in Downtown Calgary, but once I entered you almost don't know that you are in an Historical Building, I would say The Hudson's Bay next door were able to keep the feel more then the Simons. There are 4 floors altogether, the layout was nice but very cramped, doesn't give you the same airy feel as the locations in Edmonton, West Vancouver. Well, I really like their effort to keep downtown vibrant, but I am not sure if they can recuperate the expense they have put in with the business they are currently doing! read more

Had some time to explore the Fall & Winter fashions. Super helpful staff. Yummy hot food in the cafe (so far had the French Onion Soup, Hummas Plate, Breakfast Wrap, Greek Salad, Gelato, Chocolatine, Hot Chocolate, lattes,...) Simons cafe Eve has a sign that says 'No Tips, we are happy to serve you.' Progressive just like the people that own/run Simons. Staff are paid the same as the other staff in the store so they don't have to worry about tips. Service is efficient, professional and friendly. Service is equal and maybe even superior to service in any of Calgary's finest eateries & restaurants. Come on restaurants & cafes, time to follow the lead! read more

We stopped in on opening day. We missed the morning festivities which was probably a good thing. Considering there was still a lot of people well into the closing hours, it must have been a madhouse in the daytime. Simons (or La Maison Simons) has been in business since 1840 originating from Quebec City. Since then their move out west has seen them open up their largest store in Edmonton. The West Edmonton Mall location has been a staple of mine since they opened in 2012. Every time I go to Edmonton I have to stop in, even just to look at what's new. Being a larger man of Asian origin there aren't many things that fit me here; however, I can appreciate the styles and labels they carry. I quite often come out of a Simons empty handed but still happy because I was able to get a good dose of ideas I can take with me. Although not as big as the West Edmonton Mall location, the Calgary store boasts over 90,000 sq. ft. on four levels in the revitalized Lancaster Building. The first two floors house women's fashions with part of the second floor dedicated to a cafe and home decor/accessories. The cafe actually looked like they have decent food. The third and fourth floors have men's clothing, with the top floor dedicated to suits and clothing of the formal variety. It's interesting to see how they integrated the store so that it seamlessly transitions from the Lancaster Building to the Core Shopping Centre and as well as the adjoining plus 15. It doesn't feel like a big department store but, more of an eclectic combination of smaller boutique shops. I'd have to say Simons hits all the good notes except for one, I think some of the prices are a bit too high considering a lot of this stuff is manufactured in China. Don't get me wrong, I think the store, it's employees and its merchandise is great; just that, I think a bit more diversified pricing on something other than printed tees are in order. Simons has taken over a significant amount of space between 7th and 8th ave and 3rd street. The layout of the store is quite neat as it's on three levels and includes a cafe and two sides of the plus 15. I do find it can be a bit difficult to find a specific thing depending on what you're looking for but the home decor and cafe are great. I also like that they have a wide variety of mens and womens wear so you can find something for everyone. We stopped by to get hubs outfitted for a friends wedding in Mexico and were able to find everything we needed. read more

Terrible service in the men's section today. When a clerk assumes you are buying something for yourself and then proceeds to mumble through the transaction, it doesn't make you want to give them your business. Here's what went down. I was purchasing gifts for Christmas, as one does in a mall in December. Took two items to the till and the clerk looks at them and says "These are too big for you. You need smaller!" In the rudest tone. I informed the clerk that they are gifts and get a disgusted grunt. After being told I didn't have the Simons points card, the clerk mumbled something unintelligible under his breath and scanned my items in. After completing the transaction (in which the clerk barely made eye contact or conversation) I had to ask about both a gift receipt (no dice on that) and a gift box. The gift box he did give me isn't what I needed. Even though he insisted it would fit. I think I'll order my stuff from Simons online from here on out. What little Christmas spirit I had is definitely gone now. read more

A beautiful five storey department store based in Quebec. This is their second Alberta store (the other in West Edmonton Mall). The space is absolutely beautiful, with unique design on each floor, and a large scale mural with touches of Canadiana by a local artist. The store has all their unique brands Le31, Icone, and Twik, as well as designer brands. They have a home section, accessories, shoes, and so much more for both men and women. They have a wide price range so you can usually find something nice in your own budget. I personally love the Twik line, as it is affordable and fashionable. This store even has a cute café and tons of little touches that make it an enjoyable way to spend some time downtown on the weekend. I hope this store helps revitalize the Core and downtown, as it sure is a beautiful space. read more

Our family used to enjoy going to Simon's and have received great customer service from the decor and men's clothing department previously. Today there were sales going on for boxing day and I tried on a shirt that I really liked and would have purchased at the price of $20. Upon getting to the register the price came up as $40 and I mentioned that I thought the price was $20 and showed the worker the sale marker that said $20 for collared long sleeve twix shirts that are regularly $40. It was set up with 2 top racks that said $20 with that label and one below with the exact same shirts with a different material still originally $40 and the same brand and style so I had assumed it was on sale since the sign was misleading. The manger was grabbed to ask if the price could be honored and she was horribly rude and condescending and simply implied I was stupid for thinking that and even mentioned other people had this problem earlier and no one moved it until now??? She then said she would not honor the price since she moved the display now (what about earlier for all those other people, excuses?) and the fabric was different even though this shirt exactly matched what was written on the sale sign. I mentioned a previous experience I had like this where I thought I was completely in the wrong and was just gonna pay the full price and the manager gave me the sale and was super kind about it and I would always reccomend them now. She then gave me more excuses after this then asked if I still wanted it, I said no especially after this service. She then didn't apologize for the inconvenience or anything after this and just stormed off after I simply stated I thought this was poor customer service. I used to love Simon's now I wouldn't reccomend it or think of going back after this horrible, condescending customer experience. read more

A visit to a shopping department store can often feel like you have been trapped in a glut of advertising, signs, colors, disarray, and stuff, stuff, stuff. Tackling even one section of a department store during sale time demands your concentration, will power, and even your patience when you need to find a clerk, change room, or a lineup that isn't 10 minutes deep. And so, I bring you the best shopping mall experience I have found in all of this grand city of Calgary. Tucked on the east end of The Core shopping Centre (in itself, one of the most beautiful malls in Calgary, equip with glass dome roof, dynamic top floor gardens and eateries), this department store is a master of space and layout. This department store spans 4 levels in what once once called "Lancaster Building", the extension of The Core Shopping Mall leading toward The Bay. La Maison Simons is a favorite shopping stop in Montreal (never been? Oh you must go. Leave France for another year, and head there for a true bonjoir experience). Now in Calgary, this department store works its way both sides of the Lancaster hallway, and is equipped with the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff I have yet met in a department store. They are everywhere, dressed in classy jackets, well groomed, and smiling. Product is tidy on their shelves, baskets, hangers and displays, easy to find, color coordinated, well arranged. Even more pleasing is the price of most items. It seems that Simons does not believe in inflating their costs, and hands the savings down to the shopper. Looking around at other shoppers, I noticed a rather relaxed demeanor. Not one clenched jaw, or languishing soul flipping through hanging messes or trying to flag down help. The warmth of the staff was actually contagious. The designer store, 'Evito' is on the second floor of La Maison Simons. The pleasure of browsing original Designer pieces that are anything but ordinary is exciting in itself, and even more so when these amazing pieces go on sale. One such piece, a long ivory, wool coat, (Jacquemus, Le Souk) is a style one might describe as Downton Abbey meets Steampunk, and came down beyond my happiest dreams in price, a piece I will always cherish. Happy to shop and needing to stop? May I recommend the Simons cafe, 'Eve', a culinary delight only equaled by the hot drinks that they serve. The staff are accommodating, quick and friendly, with the nicest sign I have ever read in a café: "NO TIPS PLEASE - It's our pleasure to serve you". I think that if you shop here too, you will be made to feel like someone special. I did. Particularly when browsing my beautiful purchases at home, basking in the glory of really good deals. Well, La Maison Simons, I award you Two Thumbs up for your layout, your staff, food and your prices. May your store be ever full, and your many friendly staff be always a-plenty. read more

Lots of stylish, quality items; it's a bit on the pricier side but the products are comfortable and they last (with some TLC as there is a tendency of more delicate fabrics or fastenings being used in the items), so you get what you paid for. You can occasionally score a great deal but they'll make you work for it (there isn't one section dedicated to sale items, and the signage for anything on sale is quite lacking). It's a clean and roomy department store with fitting rooms peppered strategically throughout, so it's a rare day having to wait for space or search fervidly for that single fitting area on a completely different floor (a common problem with other similar department stores). However, the layout can be confusing for the occasional visitor as they mainly sort by brand rather than product (for example, you'll find coats in various areas of the store instead of neatly organized in one section) and the staff are trained for certain sections of the store only (so they don't know what items the other sections have if you're looking for something specific). There are usually plenty of staff around to field any issues, but the service can be hit-or-miss. They offer a free rewards card for your typical points-collecting, and during the holidays they will offer complimentary giftboxes and gift receipts if you are making purchases as a present. Overall, I'm glad that Simons has opened a store in the city and in such a convenient location. It has given me a broader, trendier range of fashion at reasonable prices. My wallet and closet are happy for the time being. read more
