Well, I guess I had set myself for a higher expectation then what I saw! This was touted to be a special Simons as its being housed in a Historical Building in Downtown Calgary, but once I entered you almost don't know that you are in an Historical Building, I would say The Hudson's Bay next door were able to keep the feel more then the Simons. There are 4 floors altogether, the layout was nice but very cramped, doesn't give you the same airy feel as the locations in Edmonton, West Vancouver. Well, I really like their effort to keep downtown vibrant, but I am not sure if they can recuperate the expense they have put in with the business they are currently doing!

We stopped in on opening day. We missed the morning festivities which was probably a good thing. Considering there was still a lot of people well into the closing hours, it must have been a madhouse in the daytime. Simons (or La Maison Simons) has been in business since 1840 originating from Quebec City. Since then their move out west has seen them open up their largest store in Edmonton. The West Edmonton Mall location has been a staple of mine since they opened in 2012. Every time I go to Edmonton I have to stop in, even just to look at what's new. Being a larger man of Asian origin there aren't many things that fit me here; however, I can appreciate the styles and labels they carry. I quite often come out of a Simons empty handed but still happy because I was able to get a good dose of ideas I can take with me. Although not as big as the West Edmonton Mall location, the Calgary store boasts over 90,000 sq. ft. on four levels in the revitalized Lancaster Building. The first two floors house women's fashions with part of the second floor dedicated to a cafe and home decor/accessories. The cafe actually looked like they have decent food. The third and fourth floors have men's clothing, with the top floor dedicated to suits and clothing of the formal variety. It's interesting to see how they integrated the store so that it seamlessly transitions from the Lancaster Building to the Core Shopping Centre and as well as the adjoining plus 15. It doesn't feel like a big department store but, more of an eclectic combination of smaller boutique shops. I'd have to say Simons hits all the good notes except for one, I think some of the prices are a bit too high considering a lot of this stuff is manufactured in China. Don't get me wrong, I think the store, it's employees and its merchandise is great; just that, I think a bit more diversified pricing on something other than printed tees are in order. Welcome to Calgary!

Simons has taken over a significant amount of space between 7th and 8th ave and 3rd street. The layout of the store is quite neat as it's on three levels and includes a cafe and two sides of the plus 15. I do find it can be a bit difficult to find a specific thing depending on what you're looking for but the home decor and cafe are great. I also like that they have a wide variety of mens and womens wear so you can find something for everyone. We stopped by to get hubs outfitted for a friends wedding in Mexico and were able to find everything we needed.

My fiance and I are getting married in Toronto in September of this year. His groomsmen and our fathers live in the Calgary, the Caymans, Ottawa, and Toronto. Suiting all these men proved to be a very difficult task. Enter Formans. The staff at Formans are unlike any staff I have EVER met. It is a family run business, and it is clear that they are passionate and proud of what they do. Their store is absolutely gorgeous, with beautiful clothing. Their knowledge is exceptional. Their friendliness is out of this world. And *genuine*. I left their store wide-eyed and speechless. Being self-employed myself, I am often frustrated at the poor customer care received these days. The staff at Formans blew my mind. My fiance and his men look stunning. They have all said nothing but amazing things about Formans. They truly treat you like family. Unfortunately I had an accident a few weeks ago that leave me with a injuries and deformities that will still be evident on my wedding day. At hearing this from my fiance, Simone at Formans surprised me and sent me this absolutely beautiful, large floral arrangement. I called and expressed my appreciation. Actually brought tears to my eyes. This woman owes me nothing and barely knows me. What a kind soul! Men: Go to Formans. Their quality of goods, sales team, knowledge, and hearts are just plain exceptional. I will be boasting about them and sending them as much business as possible because it is 100% deserved. They never asked me to review them but I'm doing this to show them my gratitude and support. Thank you for everything, Formans!!!

We walked in with the intention to shop, but clearly since we did not fit the image of his preferred demographic, we were ignored, dismissed, and stared at excessively. I have no real interest in style or fashion so I tend to feel uninformed and at a disadvantage. However, this was a great experience. Seth Chartier was immediately fully engaged in the project. There was no up-sell and no sales pressure, just a genuine and knowledgeable effort to convert my requirements and preferences into exactly what I needed. It was a perfect mix of system, judgement, and tact. I really appreciated the way he coordinated the entire process from selection, alterations, pick-up, and the interface with shoes and belts which is a different department. A special mention to Thelis who helped me select the best-looking leather shoes I've ever owned. Near the end, the owner came out just to introduce himself. O'Connors is a case-study in how a business can successfully use superior service and quality to build loyalty. It doesn't always have to be about price. You just won't find what I received on Amazon.

Very pretentious store catering to the wrong crowd…read more The first floor is catered to young peacocks and flamingos working in entry corporate jobs thinking a tight fit suit with garish prints or fabrics makes people think you're a ceo. They even let you finance this stuff online through Knarla now paying 20% interest over 10 monthly payments. 2nd floor is where the old lions and old tortoises shop. These ppl are 50+ to centenarians with a little bit of money but think they are CEO's when they are either middle management or semi retired fogies working in corporate Calgary. These dapper gentlemen's come in wearing the canali suit purchased back in 2014 looking to buy new shirts and ties trying to fool people into thinkings they are rich. In both cases it's clear this store caters mainly to pretenders who kinda sorta have money or blowing away their company pension cheques. If you go there with intention to buy Zegna or brunello cucinelli and your not 50+ or centenarian or looking to finance with 20% interest, you will get shown the exit subtly by the sales staff who never dealt with any real high net worth customers before. FYI not everyone walks around hood rich carrying their bank account in their pockets or has a 50k credit card that has to get maxed out each month. TLDR if you have money, don't spend it at this store. Go to the retailer directly.

This past spring I called Megan to tell her I was heading to Paris and was having trouble finding a wool pea coat. She told me that they had just been in London and she put her boyfriend in a 7diamonds coat that looked great. She showed me the pictures on the website, ordered it in and I had it in my hands 3 days later. Now that's service.
