But, we needed an overnight stay in the Lake District and took the chance of another Travelodge. We arrived with great trepidation. What a shock. The receptionist was cheerful and friendly. Booking in was carried out swiftly and we were given a room in an annexe of about 24 rooms. First impressions of walking in were of the cleanliness and brightness. The room was immaculate with a large comfy bed, plenty of room. The bathroom was clean, bright and with plenty of towels. Next door was a Little Chef for breakfast. A wonderful hotel and our ideas of Travelodge have changed.

The Spa was very quaint, different to others I have been but very well thought out. Robes, towels and slippers provided along with a tour of all the facilities. Outdoor sauna and Jacuzzi, plenty of seats to chill in the sunshine. Indoors there were 3 treatment rooms, steam room, salt room and 3 tubs to soak in. Treatments vary: I had a sea salt scrub which lasted 25 mins and later in the day a full body massage which lasted 50 mins. All very relaxing. Included in the £109 price was a 2 course meal in the restaurant. Delicious, well prepared and presented food. The staff were exceptionally helpful and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble, which made the whole experience a delight. I really can't fault my experience and will be returning.

I had an evening meal in the bar, where they had prepared a table off to the side for me so that I was out of the way of the bar regulars. Food was pretty good actually, even managing to cater to my non-meat and dairy requirements. Don't try and follow the car park sign and drive down the lane at the side to get to the rear car park without checking - I tried this and the moderately-sized space was full of tables, construction material and a van. Seems they were doing some renovations of the beer garden. I had great difficulty in turning the car round to get back out. But there was enough space at the front for me to park close to the door. Good basic accommodation, reasonably priced and homely. I'd happily stay here again.
