The group rated Ramen noodles, which is from a company that already has great products out there. It was a wonderful experience and the moderator was very entertaining and kept us laughing and engaged with the products. He explained everything in detail. I was recently contacted to participate in a Friday night focus group with SIS International in San Francisco and had nothing else to do so why not? Turned out to be a lot of fun, informative and it paid pretty well. I had done other focus groups through other companies but didn't know SIS so I was a bit wary. But it all worked well and I left with payment in hand. I live in the city and walked to the location which was also very accessible by public transport. If I was approached by them again I would join as long as I qualified during the pre-screening. Not everyone can do every focus group. It's too bad I can't tell you what we talked about! read more

I came here for a focus group recently in November 2021 but I've been a study participant for at least two years now. They have both in-person and virtual focus groups and 1-on-1 interviews. The staff were very professional and checked COVID-19 vaccine card/ID. The focus group started and ended on time. I received the incentive right after the session. I had recently attended a one on one interview with SIS. The application for this research study was very straightforward with an emailed questionnaire. After I was contacted by one of their reps via email to confirm, I was given some pre-work instructions and was subsequently scheduled. On the day before my interview, the rep called me to reconfirm. On the day of arrival, I was greeted at the elevator by a team member who escorted me into a room where the interview was conducted. There were two members who guided me through the interview. We had a great rapport and I tried to be as helpful with my views as possible. The conference room was large and well lit and I felt very comfortable giving my feedback to what I was shown. Everything was done at a comfortable pace. If I was offered another chance to work with SIS, I definitely would go back. Their high level of professionalism is what I would have hoped for in a research organization. read more

I participated in a travel research study. The communication beforehand was very clear and concise. We were welcomed with beverages and snacks for while we waited for everyone to arrive. Everything was well organized and flowed seamlessly. Our moderator did a great job curbing the chatty ones and encouraging participation from the shyer ones. Everyone's opinions were heard. I also appreciated the variety of activities used to glean information. It wasn't one long boring conversation. Afterwards, you could select an instant deposit to your bank account (for a $5 fee) or receive a visa gift card in the mail. I almost participated in an online focus group, attracted by the promise of a nice stipend and the urgency of the research, which was set to happen within about 7 days. Everything seemed great until I inquired about the payment after the meeting confirmed. They then told me that payments are processed manually and take about 4 to 6 weeks. I was shocked that they don't pay promptly for your work and was unhappy that this wasn't disclosed in the beginning and more transparent until I asked. read more

I loved my moderated focus group that I participated in the other week. I, along with four other New Yorkers sat around an oval table debating the ins and outs of rice noodles. The focus group was long at 2 hours but at the end we were well compensated and I believe were paid 150 in a cash envelope. Very good experience when I went to a taste-test in person in Manhattan at SIS. Everyone there was very friendly. They greeted me when I arrived. They gave us different foods to try and we had to give our opinions with some multiple choice questions on a tablet. And then they gave us cash at the end. It was a fun experience! The location was a little tricky (downtown Boston) and they made sure to provide specific and accurate directions as well as pay for parking - not cheap in Boston.
