To say they are pet-friendly would be an understatement. On arrival, it was like walking into a kennel - dogs barking from all directions, some off leashes. This went on the enire first day and night. As a dog lover, I was still annoyed, especially when the 430am rounds kicked in. We had the fan running, a noise machine & still got little sleep. The 2nd day was like being in a different campground... far more as expected. Yes, there were still dogs barking once in a while, but it wasn't nonstop and there weren't any roamers. We slept well the rest of our stay with one other downside. The position of the sewer hose connection - it had no threads and was sunken in too far, actually beliw the ground. This prevented us from having a secure connection - meaning we would get odor. We greatly enjoyed the privacy trees, night skies & convenient location. We still feel the pros outweigh the cons, friendly staff & the price is reasonable. We will stay again & will look at getting an adapter to help with the sewer issue... cuz ewww

There's parking in a paved lot, as well as street parking. Toilets consist of port-a-potties. No running water is available, so bring water as well as a lot of bug spray if you want to do the hike into the more wooded area. You can walk on the breakwater and that leads to the Grand Marais Lighthouse. You cannot enter the lighthouse. While there are stairs leading up, they quickly stop at a locked panel. Stay awhile to view the waves and enjoy the sounds of nature. It's pretty unique to be out on the water on such a narrow structure. As it was foggy when I went out, I couldn't see that far, but I was rewarded with a fogbow.

While it was pretty flat, I don't know if I would've recommended this hike to someone under our circumstances. It's basically a lifted concrete path that's about 3 feet wide with no railing most of the way right over the lake and rocks. For someone with bad balance, this is definitely a risk and my dad wasn't able to make it to the end of the hike because we were too nervous about him falling off the trail. All that said, the views are beautiful and the lighthouse is really cool, though you can't go up into it. The wind was brutal and none of us had enough layers because we didn't realize it would be that intense, but everything was gorgeous so still worth it. It was also interesting reading the billboards about the history of the area, including the tragic shipwreck that resulted in the construction of the levee.

He knew his stuff, I could tell he had been wrenching on bikes for quite awhile. Asked a couple of questions and figured out we knew some of the long time bike people from the twin cities. Was fun to chat with him about Grand Performance and Dan Casebeer. Chatted with him about Walter Croll too. We both had custom bikes from Walter from his early years. Mine is number 17, Jeff's even earlier. The Trek bikes were pretty cool. Peddle assist, you had to actually peddle in order for the bike to help you. Hard tail would not be what I would order, but fun trying them out. Thank you Jeff & Sarah!

The bikes are very user-friendly without a ton of buttons/controls, which makes them easy to use and operate. The check-in and rental process only takes about 15 minutes and then you can be on the road! The staff will give you tips on recommended trails and loops to take on your ride. The paths are well-marked and bikes can go off-road as well if you want to add a little more adventure to your ride! We had so much fun riding bikes around the North Shore. It's a great way to see more of the area without a ton of strenuous effort. By the end of our ride, we were asking how much it would cost to buy the bikes! Super fun activity for families, friends, and couples.

Ride to the top of the mountain and stay as long as you like. There is a cafe with a few food items and then the equally beautiful ride to descend again. We all really enjoyed it and the workers even offered to take photos of us without being asked. It was relaxing and so worth the money. This hidden gem is worth the treck.
