This review is for the 0ptomotrist. I'll start by saying that it's my fault for not doing my research before I got an eye exam here. The optometrist started by looking in my eyes a few times which is normal. Then he took my current prescription and put it in the machine and asked if I could read the line. I said yes and that was it, he said my eyes hadn't changed and I was good. When I said that I was having problems seeing with my glasses he brushed me off. And they charged $200 for that exam. The reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is that the opticians are great. I always buy my glasses here because they have a great selection and they help you find one that fits your face. For that they would have gotten 5 stars. read more

Julia went above and beyond in her service to us. She explained the different options that we didn't know existed, and was patient while my husband and I went back & forth as to whether he should get bi-focals, or just 2 different pair (he went with 2 different pair). We appreciated not being rushed. She demonstrated the difference between regular sunglasses & transitional sunglasses. This was super helpful, as he could see that the transitional lens didn't get dark enough for him, so went with regular prescription sunglasses (saved us learning that the hard way). She showed us the benefit of non-glare lenses -- when you can see the difference, you want them! She helped us find the lower-cost frames, which helped us afford his extra pair. I recently bought glasses with two prisms. I bought a pair of frames that were way too big. I went back and Ford's very efficient daughter helped me get new frames. The new frames fit great. Ford adjusted them just right. Site for Sore eyes is a friendly, very nice place to shop. Lauren and Julie are very helpful. Their two dogs make it less like a store and more like going to a friend's house. I have tried Lens Crafters but really love going here! read more

Avoid this place like the plague if you don't want to wait more than 30 minutes to be seen, even when you have an appointment. Site For Sore Eyes doesn't have their stuff together when it comes to scheduling appointments. My last two appointments they kept me waiting for over 20 minutes each to see the optometrist for my appointment. I was upset both times, but they are located close by, and I thought I'd give them one more chance. Sure enough, I was there for 25 minutes before I complained to the girl at the front desk, who couldn't have cared less. She became defensive. I asked to speak to the manager. The girl went into the back, where I heard her talking smack about me. The manager was nice when he FINALLY came out and apologized and said that it would "just be a few more minutes" I was so disgusted at that point that I walked out without being seen. After working with Lens Craft and InSight in years past, I now use Site For Sore Eyes for my every 2 year eye exams and new glasses that I have purchased on several occasions. With not having insurance, price matters! The prices for exams and glasses are the best in town. They stand by the glasses they sell if there or problems or if repairs are needed. They have a nice selection of quality eyeglasses. I highly recommend them. read more

Was there and had eye exam had the prescription filled at lens craft the prescription was wrong took it back doc said he made a mistake so had my glasses done there asked doc what he could do for me since he made the mistake his reply was nothing that I just needed to take the loss. I can't say enough great things about this office and Dr Herzog. The staff are always so warm, friendly and welcoming! And Dr Herzog is incredible! He really listens and considers everything and makes recommendations that make so much sense. He suggested I try a contact lens for just one eye, instead of one in each eye as I'd been wearing for 30 years and the difference was amazing! I no longer need reading glasses and my distance vision is the best it's ever been! And he recently helped my by spending over an hour with me, providing a second opinion for a problem I'm having with my eyes which requires a specialist. He explained everything and made me feel so much more comfortable with the whole process. Can't say enough great things, we are so lucky to have Dr Herzog and his wonderful staff here in Capitola! read more

A sight for sore eye is how I felt when doctor looked and tried to physically lead me to a darkened room where he had soothing music was playing. I have never felt so gross and creeped out walking in to for a simple eye exam but this guy hit the creep vibe on a whole new level. Top it off the eye exam was terrible, I've had many in the past and I've never had a flash light shinning in my face for more then a few seconds but this dude shined his little flash light in my eyes for a good 10 mins of the session. He then told me that my prescription from a year and a half ago was the same prescription he came up with. read more

I have bought every pair of glasses I've ever needed here. Went in today needing a pair of readers which of course I could get at a drugstore but I haven't used my vision insurance in awhile so I thought I'd get something cute. First I ask the girl at the desk if they can take my existing glasses and determine the prescription from them. She looked at me like I'm from Mars. I speak English, apparently she struggles with that. :( But she finds me in their system and tells me the last script is 5 years old and she will print it for me... uh why would I want her to do that? I pick out a frame then she says NO they won't make these for me because my script is too old. Again... readers, not something I need to drive with. "No" she says against our policy. Hmm ok guess you thought you were going to force me to pay for an eye exam. NOT. You just lost a customer, earned a bad review and lots of negative talk about your store. Complete fools. Could have made a sale but instead you lost more than one customer. read more

Dr. Herzog gave me an eyeglass prescription that was completely inappropriate for my vision problems. The glasses were so bad that I was having issues with my balance and fell several times while wearing them. An optometrist I recently consulted said that I should never have been given that prescription. I recommend that you stay away from Herzog, for that and other reasons I won't go into. I had a previous eye exam with the female optometrist here (the website for the Capitola store is so bad that I couldn't look up her name), and she seemed to be more competent than Herzog, but she was unnervingly abrupt and unfriendly. Not someone I want to have examining me. Appointments mean nothing here. The last time I went in for an eye exam (I had an appointment, made far in advance) I gave up and left after waiting half an hour. Because of my eye care insurance (EyeMed), I am stuck using SFSE or LensCrafters (and a few other, equally unpromising options). One thing you should know about these chain and franchise eyewear operations is that they do not attract optometrists from the top-tier schools (UC Berkeley is the top in the country for Optometry). So the quality of eye care you get can vary a great deal. In SFSE shops the optometrists' business is separate from the eyewear store, which is run as an independent franchise. So if you have a complaint about your eye exam, you don't have much recourse other than to find a new optometrist. The Capitola SFSE store is old and dumpy and often smells alarmingly bad. I found a better optometrist (although not a better-run store, unfortunately) over the hill. Do not recommend SFSE Capitola! read more

I got a thorough eye exam from here 3 months ago also a pair of desirable glasses and a promise that they would fix them if they broke. So tonight ( 3 months later ) i stepped on my glasses and brought them in right before closing time and the repairman was very kind. I haven't actually had an exam because I realized my new insurance is through Sutter (which has its own vision care) - however, I visited the office in a pinch one Friday in need of contacts, and Trina saved the day! Both she and the optometrist were very kind and helpful. They went out of their way for someone who wasn't even a patient yet. Ford and his team made my new glasses inside of a week, and at the most competivite price. I later had a small problem with the lenses and Ford worked dilligently to find a solution for me. Last December, my dog ate my glasses. Literally. He chewed them up beyond salvation. As you can probably imagine, I was pissed. The timing was pretty much perfect because my 2 year wait period for insurance coverage of frames was up. Sweet! So with that allowance in mind ($150), I went out in search of a new pair. I'm not gonna lie...I'm a loyal customer at Eye-Q. Or at least, I was. Last time I went in I wasn't in love with their selection (or higher prices), so I decided to explore other places around town. With my budget stretched thin, I wanted a pair of slick specs without a hefty euro-trendy price. My search took me all across town. Some places just plain sucked. Some didn't take my insurance. I was getting tired of this. Driving around without glasses for over a week, I had become a menace on the road. After several near-accidents and a pounding headache from eye-strain, I was getting ready to cave in and return to Eye-Q. But then, serendipity! At the last minute, I was referred to SFSE by none other than an employee of LensCrafters in the Capitola Mall! Evidently their top guy had opened up his own glasses shop just across the street. Salvation! Site For Sore Eyes are absolutely great. I had expert help from a lovely lady who helped me try on all kind of glasses and eventually selected the pair I'm now sporting. My price? $130 after insurance. Sweet! This included scratch resistant coating, polycarbonate lens (they added this for free since regular plastic wouldn't fit), and some awesomely unique frames. I couldn't be happier! If you're looking for rock-star eyewear without the rockstar price tag, this is the place to go! read more

They have a decent selection and Aundrea was very friendly and helpful. However, I can not recommend going here if you need to get your new glasses in a timely manner. Prior to purchasing my new glasses I asked how quickly I could have them. My current pair was broken and it would be nice to be able to see again. I was told they would be ready in 7 business days or less. It is now 3 weeks later and even though I was told they would be ready this afternoon, they are now trying to tell me it may take as long as two more days. Terrible place. Appointments usually run 30 - 60 minutes late. Dr really has no idea how to perform proper exam or diagnose an eye problem, just says can't figure it out and writes a bogus prescription. Avoid this place at all cost. Dr. Yen is not to be trusted. read more

What a great doctor! From the time I called to make my appointment (thanks to you wonderful Yelp.com reviewers for helping me pick out a doctor!), to the time that I left the office I was in capable hands. Efficient, friendly and capable! I've been wearing contacts/glasses for about 10 years and this was one of the better doctors I've ever been to. They had wonderful prices and while I was browsing the glasses selection I noticed many wonderful designers as well as basic frames. They had a great selection of frames and a thorough knowledge of the lenses I prefer. read more

Made appointment on-line, checked accepted insurance(s) showed up ten minutes early and was rudely affronted and he then proceeded to tell me how.... Travis and Amy were wonderful, they helped me pick the perfect frames while I waited for the optometrist. They're nice enough but mad expensive I've had my glasses (purchased from this store) repaired here twice now and each time the cost to repair is $60. You'd think it would be worth just buying new ones but when I asked how much that would be my was told around $200 or more. Yikes. Glasses are such a rip off. read more

Ask for Ford. He's your man here. Very hard-working, informative and thorough, he answered all of my questions about vision providers and accessories, even helping to work with my budget. Unfortunately, when I picked up my completed glasses the young woman who "helped" me (and was 15 minutes late opening the store) tossed me the finished product and said "Here you go. You're all set."
