Never rent a vehicle from them.. they will falsify damages and force you to pay double the amount you rented the car for and will never explain or provide evidence for the damages. I have just made the same following review on google as well. I don't post review often. I hope people read my review regarding my disastrous experience with Sixt at TGV Avignon. To be honest, it's likely a rare event and I was unlucky, but if it happens to anyone who's about to rent a car from Sixt, my experience might shed some light on what you can expect from Sixt. My wife and I were in vacation in France for the entire July, 2024. We rented the car from Sixt at TGV Avignon on 7/15 to tour Provence. Office staff was very pleasant and friendly. With the advice of Sixt staff, I purchased the "best insurance package" available and was given a "brand new" car, a BMW X1 hybrid. Yet after driving merely 35 minutes on a nice sunny day to a nearby small town named L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a red warning light on dashboard that says "battery" came on just when I was pulling into the parking space at my hotel. I immediately called Sixt to report the situation and was told that someone would come to inspect the car and tow it if needed. I waited at the hotel for hours, along with hotel reception assistance, but no one showed up that afternoon/evening. On 7/16 morning, I had to call again, and after 3 hours, someone came to the hotel and straight towed the car. Sixt then made me to ride a taxi (at least paid by them), all the way back to TGV Avignon, to get a replacement car. Needless to say, our vacation days on 7/15 and 7/16 were ruined. At least when I repeatedly checked with Sixt at TGV Avignon, I was told that I wouldn't be liable for the repair since the car was "brand new" and I had the "best insurance package." Now 2 months after coming back from vacation, I have received an email from Sixt today on 9/27, that I'm liable for the damage and repair. I was asked to pay for the repair in the amount of 626.03 euros. Obviously I'm surprised by the email. I'm in awe already, of the disastrous service Sixt provided and still even more, now its audacity to charge me for the repair. I have just responded to Sixt with a long and detailed email and I'll be waiting for the response from its management team. P.s. By the way, the reception staffs at the Grand Henri Hotel at L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue were extremely helpful when I had the car breakdown. They helped me wait for hours for the guy to come inspect/tow the car. They also helped me interpret since my French was very limited. Their warm assistance made my bad day much better. I'd highly recommend the hotel if anyone is visiting this very beautiful small town. We only drive automatic, so we got a large Infiniti Q70. Pro: sweet car with GPS. Con: it's huge! Not ideal for navigating the small villages of Provence. Overall we had a good experience. We were slightly confused how to get out of the lot (I think we had to run back and get a ticket that we weren't given when we picked up the keys.). They charged me extra for gas even though I had left more gas than what I'd gotten. That was annoying but after I raised the issue via email, they were quick to refund me within 3 days. DO NOT rent from Sixt!!! This has been a horror story. I rented a car from Sixt and purchased insurance through Sixt in France and returned it in the same condition that I received. They claim there were 3 scratches on the vehicle when I dropped it off. Tire rim, and on the side mirrors. Always video your car before and after meticulously, and record damages in case a company like Sixt attempts to claim damages later on that may pre-exist! Whether the scratches/scuffs (that you barely see) were my fault or not, was not an issue because I purchased insurance through Sixt and the reservation explicitly states that scratches are covered. Sixt is now claiming I owe $387euros for 3 scratches! 3 scratches! I've responded to them multiple times via email and they only send demands back for payment without addressing my comments. Their claims phone number is not serviced. They are never in office to discuss the issue and refuse to go through the insurance that covers me. They have been harassing me for payment without justification or providing the insurance policy. Whatever you do, go with another rental company! I went with Sixt since they were more affordable in this case, but they won't be in the end. Go with another company. I'm not here to promote anyone else, but I'll say I rented a car from another company in Ireland and had no problems. We are still in the process of handling this stressful claim. Used kayak.com in the States to reserve and prepay for a manual "BMW Série 2 Active Tourer, BMW X1 sDrive or similar to group ILMR" (copying and pasting from actual receipt so others can compare prices and models) for 2 drivers for 11 rental days, picking up at Avignon TGV station and dropping off in Bordeaux. Cost was 563.86 euros ("Rate includes all kms Loss Damage Waiver Third party insurance Loss Damage Waiver with an excess of EUR 1500.00 Theft Protection with an excess of EUR 1500.00"). No hassles. We got an automatic X1 (not what we were expecting but easier to drive in France than a manual, probably) and it included a navigation system even though we didn't pay for it. We did have a lot of trouble with the navigation system, first figuring out how to switch the language to English and then figuring out how to actually navigate. After 11 days it still wasn't working as well as we would have hoped; not intuitive at all. Sixt should offer a quick tutorial on the vehicle's nav system before you leave; that's my only suggestion for improvement. Staff were very nice when we picked up and when we dropped off. We left the car in the lot for a few hours while we took the local train to downtown Avignon to explore before we hit the road; we didn't want to drive in a city on our first day. Edited to add suggestions: Be smart and take a video or still photos of the preexisting damage to the car (lots of small scrapes both inside and outside on ours) when you pick it up and again when you drop it off. Also take a photo of the fuel gauge reading, just in case. And the X1 was too big for French roads. Next time I'd get something as safe but smaller and lower to the ground for better cornering and passing. read more
