We made an online reservation ahead of time and checked into the electronic kiosk in person before talking to a team member. Sandy spoke English and explained everything without being pushy. We used the car rental insurance that comes with our credit card. To pick up the car, you have to walk across to the garage, go up an elector, pick up the key by scanning the receipt QR code at the lockers, and then find the car. It would probably be a little confusing for some but easy enough for most. The car was super clean and worked perfectly for our trip! FYI, to pass into other countries, one must buy a vignette sticker at any gas station. Returning it was a breeze as well. Overall, a great experience-- would definitely boom with Sixt again in the future! read more

It's billed as the candy store of cars. We reserved and checked in for our car. They baited and switched the vehicle we reserved which was a bummer. The liason that was chatting up the waiting customers was asking about our plans and we shared we wanted to see the Christmas markets. She said our plans were boring and lame. She played with her hair and gave an unprofessional vibe. The vehicle was a Volvo instead of a BMW which was a downgrade and not at all the experience we paid for. Even with a reservation, we waited 35 minutes in line. It was very disappointing. read more

I reserved a vehicle with a manual transmission. Supposedly, none were available in the class I reserved, despite making a prepaid reservation (cue the Seinfeld skit). A manual transmission is far preferable for vehicle control, especially on the German Autobahn. The vehicle I received was a downgrade. Upon vehicle return, the agent said the vehicle looked good and there was nothing for me to sign, nothing else to do - and a few days later I received a damage report for a supposedly scratched rim down to the primer, despite the return agent stating the vehicle was returned perfectly. The vehicle agent lied to me, or someone damaged the vehicle after I returned it. They repeatedly refused to provide images from the prior check-in or show the images from their check-in cameras that had the scratch - only a closeup from a separate camera shows the scratch. My experience with Sixt has been horrible. read more

I rented a car from the Regensburg office. When I showed up they told me it wasn't ready, and to come back in 20 minutes. When I came back they told me it wasn't available, and I would have to pay extra for a bigger car. During the 120km I drove to Munich, I was told by the robot in the car at least 50 times to keep my eyes on the road. Sometimes several times in a minute, while driving on the autobahn, looking directly ahead of me. When I dropped the car off, I made a video walkaround of the car, which you should always, always do, for this reason. The following day they sent me an email saying that the windshield was damaged, and providing images, taken by a robot, of the car. No damage was visible in their photos. I looked at my video, and could see no damage. I ran both their images and my video through enhancement software, and still could see no damage. There was, however, a small paper parking permit resting on the dashboard. Perhaps this was what they thought the damage was? Then I received an email saying that their "experts" had reviewed the damage and that I owe them 1600 EUR to fix it. I guarantee you that no human being was involved in any of this - in assessing the damage, in creating the estimate, in sending me the emails. And this is what I can't stand about this corporate bs world we live in now. I have to waste my time responding to nonsense designed to make us safer and more optimised, at least on paper, for the lawyers and shareholders. It's all such garbage. read more

Sixt Munich Airport: Never Again - It feels like a scam. I want to give them negative stars if I could. I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Sixt at Munich Airport deserves a warning to others. I rented a car from September 19 to September 24,2025 but on the night of September 21/22 at 1:30a.m., the car had a flat tire and had to be towed to the next garage. (I bought their insurance, so I thought I was fine). Sixt themselves ordered the tow truck. At that time I told them clearly: I do not want to go back to Munich to pick up a new car; I want to end my rental agreement. However I was OK to pay till the 24th. Despite this, for days I kept getting emails from Sixt saying I had not returned the car. I phoned them and sent multiple emails in both English and German (I live in the US but my family is in Austria, so I speak both languages). I explained over and over again that the car was broken, towed, and the agreement ended. At the end of all this, I still received an invoice charging me until September 29th, even though I returned (or rather, they towed it) the car on September 22nd. This is not just bad service -- it feels like a scam. They take your money and ignore your evidence. You can write, call, or complain and they will still charge you. I'm now actually looking for a lawyer to fight them. Never, never rent from Sixt again. They will scam you too. read more

We rented 2 vehicles for a two week visit. While attempting to pick up our vehicles, a SIXT employee, driving recklessly the wrong way against posted traffic signs in the garage nearly hit us, including my father in his wheelchair, as pedestrians on our way to retrieve our vehicle. The employee, the woman driving the car, then approached us, berating us, and stating she is allowed to drive however she wants because she works there. During her verbal attack on us, she also exited her car to confront us and proceeded to make racist remarks about asian drivers to my family and threatened to call the police, even though we were the victims of her reckless driving and verbal attacks. After the situation appeared to be over, she again confronted my family, this time with 3 men to intimidate us. Again with threats of "do you know who I am?" and calling the police. This absolute monster tried to threaten and scare my family who just arrived in Germany for vacation and have to deal with this disgusting display. Was provided a car with a small chip in the windscreen - staff advised on pickup that it would not be an issue... It became an issue as the chip developed into a small crack within 1-2 days. Sixt get the car back and give us a replacement for the remainder of the trip. A couple weeks following this they contact that we need to complete an incident report and order us to pay the fine/costs of repair. They provided invoice and details of the damage, repair required and resulting charges in German and refused to translate them. They totally disregard rebuttals and just continue to ask for payment, threatening legal action if not paid by certain date etc. Shockingly unprofessional. Worst rental experience of my life! Started off bad with too few workers and a long wait to get my rental. Once I finally got the car, I did a walk around before leaving and noticed everal scratches. I immediately called customer service and reported it, a process that took almost an hour. Then I left and after arriving at my hotel, the car notified me it was almost out of Ad-blu. I once again called customer service and was told to drive back to another rental location to get the Ad-blu filled. That was another hour long process before I could start my holiday! When turning in the car, I was told there was no record of the damage and I would have to talk to someone at the front desk before leaving. Once again, only a few workers for too many people resulted in a 45 minute wait to fight with a clerk about the preexisting damage and hassle I experienced. ( a hatch back) After a back and forth I was offered an Audi A 3, at an up- price because , according to the costumer service agent , is " bigger and is more comfortable."Not being very familiar with the A3( mostly sold in the USA is a sedan) I was talked Into upgrading, again with the assurance the car is bigger since I had mentioned we were 2 adults and 1 child with 3 suitcases and hand luggage . The car was not bigger at all ( actually the trunk space is smaller in the Audi) so I received fraudulent and misleading information about the Audis size . I am 100% sure that the agent, who deals with cars , the size and space of them , what body style is what, all day long had the knowledge that the audi was not bigger . I had no time to return to the counter since I had to get on my way. Once back in the USA I disputed the charge with my CC institution to look into this matter. A, I did not receive a compact luxury sedan B. The Audi a 3 ( also a hatchback ) that was assured to me was bigger and more spacious was a LIE. The SIXT costumer service agents in Germany are not very good at costumer service. It's always the costumers fault. So be aware. Check the car out, inside and out, they will charge your for every single scratch , stain, chip..... they know once a foreigner / visitor has completed the rental time frame , they can charge them for whatever, because who has really time to go back to Germany to fight the issues that might arise. And the only phone number they provide is a German number, good luck spending 1$ a minute for a phone call trying to rectify the problem. The second time when I rented, when I got to the car, the trunk wasn't big enough for our luggage, so I went back down to the desk and they gave me a bigger car. Return was okay. Do NOT ever rent a car from Sixt! We got screwed over by them! We rented a car through expedia for a total of $756 incl unlimited miles, Sixt ended up charging us 1,456$!!!! Charges usbiver 1000 Extra miles, over 230$ for VIP location (seriously? For Sixt an airport pick up is a VIP location, are they out of their mind?) Tried to call and email and never ever got a response. Then we disputed the charge zhrough our credit card and a day later they came up with a damage on the car even though we got a paper at return stating the car is fine (we were 3 people walking around and checking upon return to make sure all is ok). Horrible experience with there exclusive high end car rental. We arrived in the Diamond Lounge, where we got a friendly reception and were helped to our very expensive premium car (our choice so no complaints here) and drove off. However the Sixt personal told us that with this over 600 Euro per day we would get Unlimited miles. Which was not true and we got charged over 300 Euro for extra miles even though we were told we had unlimited. If we would have been given the correct information, we would have bought a higher package with more miles, trying to explain that to their customer support is even more frustrating : Each email to them takes about 8 days for a reply and the answer is just : contract said it's not unlimited. Bottom line - terrible customer support and taking no accountability for informing us incorrectly. read more

I had a pretty decent experience in the check in check out process. the one I would complain about is the return. They do this mass all vendors return then they send a person to check you a while later. Kind of inefficient. The persons at the counter in the airport are great. The man directing parking sucks. Woudlnt let me through to go fill up, even though I asked nicely and since I was running out of time I hit the refill penalty of 126 euros (guessing 70 is for the gas) so it's a hefty fee. Girl who did my invoice at the end is smoking hot and I think that may have distracted me from the fee at the moment. read more

We just had the most horrible experience at Sixt Munich airport. The supervisor was really rude and treated her colleague like sh*t right in front of us. To be honest i dont think i Will rent from Sixt again.. We were renting a premium Car and The supervisor tried to Scam us with the double price, in not a very charming way. It would have been so Much easier for her to have two happy customers instead of earning those extra euros. I rented a Town and Country Van in Atlanta, GA./USA for 2 days. The quality of the car was excellent. Congrats Chrysler. It was clean. I suspect it was not filled to max because the gauge dropped quickly. However, I returned it filled to the brim for the next guy. I didn't complain when turning in the vehicle because I knew it was a waste of time. While returning it, the guy said everything was ok. The guy didn't say anything even though he THOROUGHLY looked over the vehicle. Sides, front, back, roof and interior. So, I headed to the plane. Then, I received an email after I left the location. They said there was a ding in the windshield which was not easily visible. I never saw a ding while driving the vehicle. And, I never experienced anything that would injure the windshield. I have rented hundreds (maybe a thousand) of cars over my business career and never had one complaint from the car rental companies. I'm over cautious when driving. I'm going to fight this. Do not, repeat do not use this company! Rented from them in Munich. Returned the car in perfect condition. The airport return clerk tells me, while I am standing right there with him, there is a ding in the door. As I am standing there telling the man, and mind you we are looking at the same car, there is no ding in the door, he suddenly doesn't speak English any longer. I return the car, get a "final" receipt, and then a month later receive an e-mail saying there was 1200 euro damage. But the kicker is, the damage isn't for the so-called door ding, but for scratches on the front of the car. Still dealing with this issue. I had heard from others that it was common for these guys to find "damages" to the car when returned. But I took my chances due to the low price they offered. We were scammed in Sixt at Munich Airport. We reserved the car through Expedia and paid for the loss damage waiver insurance from Expedia. On 08/01 when we were picking up the compact car we reserved, we declined the loss damage waiver, as we have already purchased it from Expedia for $198. The attendant tried to sell their insurance and said that we should cancel the Expedia insurance. We declined (Expedia insurance can not be cancelled anyway). After looking at our large suitcases, the Sixt attendant, Simone, recommended and we agreed that we needed a bigger car. She (Simone) re-worked a new contract. It took a long time, almost an hour. We were exhausted after the long flight and standing at the counter. 20 minutes after we left the airport and were on the freeway, we noticed that the loss damage waiver was still on the paper we were given. We called right away. The person who answered the phone put us on hold and talked to Simone. He came back and said they will remove the loss damage package that was 239.73 euros. When we returned the car, the person at the return site checked and car and only said "everything is okay", so we got on the plane and came home. 3 days later we received an invoice from Sixt, the loss damage waiver charge was still there. We emailed right away on 08/20. No response. We emailed again on 08/27. Still no response. Originally we thought it was an honest mistake when Simone had to re-work the contract with the upgrade. Now after both of our email messages were ignored, we no longer believe it was an honest mistake. Due to their lack of response, I called the credit car company, but the credit card company said they might not be able to help us, because the contract included this item. It was terrible having to deal with this after a very nice vacation. We have always had good experiences with Sixt, but not in Munich. read more
