I had my daughters 6th birthday party at Skate Zone 71 and Miya was my attendant/server. She was super accommodating to us. She provided a smile and was attentive. The party included a kids table set up with plates napkins and a table cloth some soda and pizza. The pepporoni pizza was pretty good for a skating rink. Miya did real well hosting especially since it seemed she was responsible for multiple party's on her own. We waited maybe an hour for pizza, allowing guests to skate a nice amount before eating. Miya also helped light the candles and hand out pieces of the cake. I would book another party here for sure. read more

I'm going to give this four stars and I'll explain why. But I also never want to go back, and I'll explain that too. Kid K's school had an event here, not private, but a school skate on a Saturday morning. Along with many other groups. You've seen the place along 71, relatively easy to get to, big parking lot packed with cars. I've never been because I didn't grow up here and it's overwhelmingly a kid's place, but I know it's been here forever. Easy check-in (I bought tickets online through the school event site,) and great service at the ticket counter and at the skate one. Easy to get skates, free wrist pads, and $5 for "walker" thingies for beginners to lean on while learning (very helpful, wish they'd had them when I was a kid and coulda used one when I had knee surgery.) I loved to rollerskate when younger, and even did it a few times as an adult, but that was 30 years and 2 knee replacements ago. So, we brought along a high-school age family member to help K. I helped some on the carpet, and you can walk on the rink in shoes so I did some of that too. K loved it, even put up with the falls (which are just a normal part of learning, of course.) Hanging out with friends, listening to music, and learning a little on her first time skating. The place is clean, there are plenty of places to sit, there's snacks (for outrageous prices,) there's laser tag and arcade games and other entertainment. The noise is overwhelming. Not from the kids, really- from the PA. Music was loud enough you have to yell to talk. And then the announcements... Loud and distorted and almost painful. Really awful. Bring earplugs. Not kidding. My ears are still sore from the assault. But, look: kids will have fun. Eat before and after. There is a drinking fountain so they will survive. Definitely use the pads and walkers, and wear cushy pants. Bring earplugs. Enjoy a little nostalgia. And look forward to the time they announce that your skating session is over. read more

Overall though this is definitely one of the coolest rinks I've ever skated at. Super sick layout and the music was good for the Sunday adult night. I'd love to come here again someday. Definitely could have been a lot better. Waiting on the food was the worst of it. I waited in line longer than I skated as kids were cutting the line while the workers did nothing to stop them. At several points the workers let other people come up and be served before me while I was waiting in line. I purchased a $22 pitcher of soda that was supposed to be unlimited refills but was denied several times for the refill until I had to speak with someone else about it. The interior feels like Wray you expect from an old school roller rink curds 1980s that could turn into a glow in the dark or disco party at any moment. They host the party, serve the pizza, corral the kids into laser tag and make and serve the cotton candy tower for the kids. This is your typical skating rink. They have a decent sized parking lot that is dimly illuminated at night. This place is way over priced and your are charged for skate rentals even if you bring your own. They have skate aides that you can rent for $5 extra. The building is huge. They have a snack bar, laser tag, and video games. The snack bar is overpriced and the food is not that good. The pizza was like cardboard. The arcade has video games, pop-a-shot, and Skee ball. You can earn tickets that you can redeem for prizes (Chuck-E-Cheese style). There is also an area for private parties. It is not behind any walls and is just roped off. You will also find some lockers that you can rent to hold your shoes and other stuff. My shoes were cheap, so I opted to forgo the locker. Anyway, I think the lockers only takes quarters and cost 50 cents. There are tables and booths on the outside perimeter of the rink to sit, relax and/or eat. But they are prime real estate and I recommend claiming your spot early. The staff there is not mean or rude, but they are also not too friendly. They do their job. I came during a special event and they did not even honor some of the things they promoted for the event such as contest and glow sticks. It was not a huge deal, but you should do what you put out there. There was a guy there that fell on the rink and busted his head wide open. He was bleeding everywhere and no one on staff offered medical attention or called an ambulance. He was just holding a sweatshirt on his head and eventually left. They were playing some nice hip-hop during the session. It was a jamming place. The rink is nice and they have an area in the center that is walled off and for slower or less experienced skaters. There is a bridge that goes over the main rink that you can take to get to the area or you can just take the main rink to get there. One of my main gripes is that my session was scheduled from 6:30 to 9, however they cut off skating at 830, so that they could be out by 9 I guess. That is not good business to cut a session short or include your close up time in. A funny story happened while I was here. I was rolling around the rink and I was moving. As I came up to this young kid he looked at me, nodded and said, "what up old school?" All I could do was laugh. Kids theses days. Anyway, I would probably pass if facing the opportunity to come back here and check out another rink. read more

The only reason I had my party here was because of the reviews but boy I should have went somewhere else I paid hundreds of dollars for a table and a shout out our host was non existent he was overwhelmed doing 3 parties at once so he couldd n t take care of us my children didn't get the things they needed the hist kept telling me to go do things which the other staff said only he could do our party was cut short nobody told us they do sessions and shut down in-between it was just a horrible experience I won't go back for any reason hundreds of dollars wasted I DONT RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE TO GO read more

I love skating and Skate 71 is such a great time! It's kept up well, the games are fun, love the lights and disco ball, shockingly good food and snacks and all the staff are super friendly. My kiddos were invited here for a birthday party and had a blast, all of the kids there did. It's nice that the let you rent the little helpers, guides, (I'm not sure what you call those things) for those new to skating because holy moly there was definitely a lot of falling. Went to Skate Zone 71 to roller skate and had a good time. Admission was surprisingly expensive, $13 + $5 skate rental, with tax came to $18.46. Do be prepared with some quarters, because the lockers are 2 quarters each to rent. This is not noted anywhere and I did not see any ATM anywhere. Based on the fact that half the lockers did not have locks/were broken, and concession ran out of water with hours still in the evening, this price was too much. Due to the danger in the world nowadays, I did appreciate that there were 3-4 Security guards. They checked my purse when I got there, and also had handheld metal detectors and checked me before I went in. Nowadays, I worry everywhere I go that I'm going to be victim of an active shooter, so this really helped me feel more at ease. I appreciated this. As far as the facility, the carpeting is new and nice. The skating rink is well maintained and clean. Speakers and sound was very good with great bass. Wonderful lighting around & on the rink; fun disco lights. Plenty of seating all around. Staff was cleaning skates in-between customers. Bathrooms were relatively clean too. There is 1 drinking fountain, it just has low water pressure. I did not like that I couldn't take my own water bottle in, especially since they ran out of bottled water with hours still remaining for the evening. Also, bottled water was $2.75/bottle. Ridiculous! Overall, I had a great fun time here, but they really do nickel and dime you. I would like to check out the other skating rinks around Columbus. read more

Recently my family experienced a terrible time at Skate Zone. Our original plan was to host a birthday party for a 10 year older; when we phoned to make reservations, we were advised due to the size of our party (less than 10) it would be better to do a 'walk-in' party. This was okay with us as this event is something our 10 year older looks forward to every year; and we appreciated the advice as it was going to save us money. Image our surprise when we, alone with our guests showed up to Skate Zone and was told we could not bring in our cake - you know the cake we purchased for the party - you know the cake we would have purchased from them had we been informed they did not allow them to be brought in with 'walk in parties'. Needless to say - this put a damper on our celebration and my only advise to those considering this place is to ask about all the 'fine print' items that may not be discussed from their personnel. read more

I booked my child's birthday here and without going into details, I would have given this place a 1 star review before our party manager for the day swooped in and saved the day. Jack is a godsend and a true asset to this facility. He took me from a level of stressed and disappointed parent to someone who left more than happy with our experience. Let me be clear. I'm giving JACK 5 stars, the entire process leading up to party time was atrocious. Online system, office staff, and letting bday parents in before opening time....these need work. I loved this trip because I am from Louisiana!! For the past 10+ years my husband and I have made a goal to skate in each state at least one time. This was my 1st time to skate in Ohio. I was impressed the floor was wood, which I prefer. I was on a road trip and just settled into my hotel for the night. When I soon realized there is a skate rink open nearby. I attend this rink on adult night. The night was packed full of great skaters. I had a blast, and the manager was very nice. This was a safe place for fun and exercise. The center of the rink was a chill zone, with stairs to allow the shoe traffic to cross safely. This place was a must return and skate again rink, great Job!! read more

SATURDAY MORNING SKATE LESSONS!! My 11 year old son just started taking skating lessons there. And I am SO Impressed with the staff. Most specifically, Kennie (sp?) the instructor. She is so calm and so patient and she's really helpful. They have all age groups in there taking lessons. Even Adults! I'm going to start taking lessons myself, cuz I think this will lead to fun mother/son excursions! But kudos to Kennie (sp?). You really are an awesome instructor. The Saturday skating lesson 10-11 am is the Bee's knees! Ms. Kenny and Ms. Margery are the most uplifting affirming teachers. I can't stress this enough, no child is left behind! Ms. Kenny taught my old bones how to skate backward in 30 seconds.....lol. These lessons have students of all ages in all classes. My family and I attended their New Years Eve party and were more than disappointed. Their advertisement states everyone must pay $12 because it's free pizza night UNLESS you are under 2 years old. Well that was not the case when we showed up. Yes my ONE YEAR OLD who wasn't skating had to pay $12 to get in because it was "free pizza night". Ridiculous. On top of the place being an absolute dump the staff was very unfriendly. By the time we made it back home we discovered our family had food poisoning from our "free/$12" pizza, not even joking. The health department was informed after a doctor confirmed. It's safe to say we will not be coming back here, ever. Nor will we never encourage friends and family to visit. Why are there grown adults monitoring the roller skate walkers when their kids aren't even skating/using them? I don't get it. If your kid isn't skating, let another child who is unable to skate without it use it. I saw with my own eyes at least 6 parents sitting at tables with walkers and no kid. Some adults had 3-4 walkers per table. Also, the company should invest in additional walkers and monitor the ones that aren't actively in use. These parents are getting out of hand. I would not eat any food from here except maybe an Icee. The pizza was 99.9% grease and oil and I had to throw the entire pizza away. This was my 3rd visit in the last 12 months, and I wish I never had to go back. The first 2 visits were for a fundraiser for my child's school. I think I had on rose colored glasses since it was a fundraiser and it was all people from our community. This time we went for family night (80's and 90's theme). Despite there being almost no line it took about 15-20 minutes to pay and get checked in. There is no info posted about pricing, so you can't prepare before you step up so I am sure that slows things down along with the sloth speed staff. We got checked in and proceeded to wait 45 minutes for 3 slices of pizza which were included in the price of admission. There were only about 10 people in front of us, and they knew ahead of time people would want pizza, I expected a system to get people food faster. I expected something to do with the theme I was hoping for music from that era, but they didn't seem to notice a theme at all. When the staff was asked about 80's or 90's music they didn't seem to know why the question was asked. The facility: filthy, like, really gross with trash on the floor, chipping paint, spills that are not cleaned up. Toilets overflowing, water on the floor of the bathroom and no staff doing anything to tend to any of the issues. Staff: inattentive to say the least. No one was rude, but it takes them a while to acknowledge you and they are far more interested in chatting with each other than doing their job. If you go, just realize it is filthy and you will have poor customer service. read more

My kids decided this is the place for their birthday party. We sent out the invites and a whopping 23 kids showed up. Skate Zone was more than prepared and gave EXCELLENT service. Noah was our party host (request him, you won't regret it). Everything was refilled before we noticed we were even running low. My husband and I forgot the birthday candles, no problem. He ran to the back and grabbed two groups of candles for the two cakes for my two kids at no additional charge. He was extremely good with the kids as well as the adults. I couldn't ask for a better birthday party for my kids. My daughter thanked me numerous times for throwing her the best birthday party ever. ALL the kids had a great time. Skate america has free admission on school skate nights, you just rent skates or bring your own. Its a ridiculous policy that kids 3-17 have to pay for admission AND skate rental just to be in the building when another sibling is having their school skate night. First of all the skating is pretty good! That's really the only pro but there are a lot of cons! First of all, the food is unsanitary because if you have the birthday party cotton candy, literally they put it in a big ball and carry it with their hands and put it on the dirty table. I don't know if they see but I do but there are a ton of people who put 1. BABYS BUTTS! 2. People sneeze and cough on the table! 3. I never see them clean it. I go there a lot of times but I never see them clean any tables.They just take the tablecloth off and throw to crumbs and leftover food away. It's not like they actually have a "custodian" to clean up stuff! I recommend for birthday parties but just have food and cake at your house because I wouldn't trust them with the pizza and cake. I was in attendance on the evening of October 6th and while picking my children up I witnessed a member of the se unity staff being called a NIGGER, porch monkey, coon, spear chucker, and every other racial slur that you could think of. To follow it up even when the security gentleman was being calm and professional, her husband Spat in his face. Even after that, the security officer remained calmed and professional. I am disappointed that the security officer was subsequently let go and that couple was rewarded for their actions. Quite possibly the dirtiest place in Columbus! I went with my daughter this week to her school's skating party, which was held at Skate Zone 71. When we got there, the first thing we noticed was the odd smell. Eventually, we noticed that everything there seemed to be sticky and/or dirty (I still wonder if they've cleaned the place since it was USA North in the 80s). If this place is that dirty, I certainly wouldn't recommend eating here. And on the way out, my 5 y/o found a used condom in the parking lot. No thanks! read more

Friday night, what to do? I could have went to an art opening with wine and cheese or maybe a Shakespearean monologue reading or something equally intellectual . . .I mean, I could have if I really wanted to, but I went roller skating and played air hockey instead (blows raspberry). I have not been skating in 15 years but somehow thought this would be a fantastic way to spend a Friday night. I rounded up a few adventurous friends and headed to Skate Zone on a bitter cold evening. We downloaded buy 1 get 1 free coupons and 2 of us were able to skate (including skate rentals) for $15 which is a steal. Lockers were large and just 50 cents ( which easily held shoes, purses and boots for 3-4 people). The rink was sprinkled with strobe lights and the music was top 100 with some older 90's songs throughout. There was air hockey, ski ball and lots of arcade games to earn tickets redeemable for brightly colored super cheap prizes. There was also a rock climbing wall that seemed to be out of commission. One of the best parts of the evening was people watching. It does not get a whole lot better than a roller rink for people watching (think 2 parts county fair + 1 part inner city day care with a dash of Six Flags). There were the slutty pre teen girls, single dads (doing the obligatory bi-monthly 'fun' activity) watching their kids on the side lines, 6-10 year olds who circled the rink like they were born on 4 wheels and the tots with pain thresholds far beyond their years falling to the ground and getting back up 4-6 times a minute incessantly to evenings end. I can proudly profess that I didn't bite the dust once but many times I came very very close. I wasn't so worried about falling as I was about getting up so thank goodness I didn't have to find out if I would be able to pull myself up off the ground. We skated and skated for what seemed like hours, legs throbbing, sweating, parched and looking for water only to find out that we'd actually only been there for 40 minutes. Jesus how do kids do this for 3 hours??? Shortly there after we played a little air hockey and channelled our inner 5th grader by playing some of the arcade games. Somehow I shamelessly figured out how to scam tickets out of one of the games and ended up with about 450 tickets after spending only $2.00. While trying to calculate how many ring pops/fun dips I could get and trying to decide between a stuffed neon snake or 17 glow sticks I realized that perhaps someone under the age of 29 could more appropriately appreciate the value of 450 tickets. Cue my good deed for the year. I handed my tickets over to an adorable 5 year old boy who shyly thanked me. Because of me that little boy will have 15 seconds of shear joy with a water pistol and a parachute man that will be promptly lost, broken or forgotten about. Regular ol' Mother freakin' Theresa here. Damn I wanted that purple friendship bracelet. Overall I had a blast here. It was not super crowded, the music was perfect for skating, I stayed upright, I got some exercise and felt like a kid for the day. I'd highly recommend this to my contemporaries as something different to do if you're stuck in a rut doing the same ol' stuff every weekend. read more

The staffing working the rink dangerously played around causing the kids in our party to wipe out even more than usual. Our church youth group had a blast here. We skated and did 2 rounds of laser tag. I'd give the venue and cleanliness 5 stars and the staff 10 plus stars. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I'd give the laser tag 3 stars as some of our vests didn't work and we lost time playing getting new ones. Other laser tag places are more fun. I'd give skating 5 stars as well. Came here with the fam for a school function. My daughter is still learning how to skate, so this was an experience. I like that their staff is very attentive to those on the rink - there were kids falling down all over the place, but there was always a staff member close to check on them and make sure they were okay. This location also offers laser tag and a small arcade. We didn't get to visit either, but I would like to in the future. read more

I'm not a big fan of roller skating, but I've been dragged to Skate Zone 71 a couple of times by my wife's friends, who come here regularly. It's sorta fun, I have to admit, even though I get passed up by 7-year-olds skating backwards. They play good music here, and they have certain nights with all-you-can-eat pizza buffets, and the pizza's pretty good. I also like the giant amusement-park-themed mural. While I don't like skating much, I do like Dance Dance Revolution, and therein lies my biggest complaint about Skate Zone 71. They have In the Groove 2 (a DDR ripoff), and I tried to play it one of the first times I came here, but it was unresponsive. It took my money, and the game started up, but literally none of the buttons worked, so it was unplayable. Then, I came back a year later... same story! Has this game really been taking people's money for a year-plus and not offering anything in return? I'm afraid to try any more of the games here. Anyway, bottom line: If you like skating, you'll enjoy yourself here. read more

My family and I went to Skate Zone 71 on Sunday for the family skate. My son is a somewhat experienced skater (he's 5) and my daughter, 2, was skating for her first time. Getting in was quick and easy. We paid, they took our coupons we supplied without any question, and we got our badges and rental tickets for the kids' skates. No problems. The rental line was long but moved quickly (as everyone was arriving at the same time for family skate this wasn't surprising). My daughter's skates fit great and she got right out and moving. My son had some problems with his skates - apparently shoe size and skate size are two different things. The rental staff was very patient and helpful as we tried out a couple of different options for him before we got it right. The skating itself is great. There's a new-skater section in the center of the rink where the kids could practice their moves in safety and comfort. This section is separated by lightly carpeted walls to keep the kids secure from the faster masses going around the outside. There are lockers for your stuff and they're fairly large. We were able to fit all our winter coats, a diaper bag, two Rollerblade bags, and all our shoes in two lockers (fifty cents each). The music was not so loud that you had to shout, but loud enough that the kids had fun. There was a good bit of variety, too - including some '80s hits I hadn't heard since the last time I went to a roller rink. The Olympics were playing and the staff put the US/Canada gold medal hockey game on the big screen in the center of the rink, which was a lot of fun for my son who loves hockey. The snacks were fairly priced, and though I didn't partake due to personal dietary reasons the kids enjoyed their pizza and drinks. They also had nachos, soft pretzels, hot dogs, and some candy. Typical snack bar fare. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The kids had a great time and so did we. We'll be back for sure! read more

We decided on Skate Zone 71 for my daughter and son's birthday party. Booking online is recommended but they are able to make a reservation over the phone. Saturdays can be really busy. Our visit was doomed before it even started. I had problems booking online and by the time I could get a hold of someone, I was told everything was booked in the time slot I needed but, I could do a walk in party and to arrive early as it is first come first serve. I was also told that there would be a $20 cake fee and that I would have to stand by the door to pay for all of my guests individually. It all comes out to be around the same price anyway so no big deal. So we arrive early and was told that they close for a half hour to clean in-between parties and to come back 10 minutes prior to opening again. Again, that's fine I just wish there had been more clarity when speaking with someone on the phone. So, I'm getting my guests in and my mother asked if i know about the $20 cake fee( she was informed by another employee) and I told her i was aware. And then my cake arrives. That's when they told me that it was a $50 fee. Long story short I spoke with a manager (Victoria) she was very lovely and accommodating and even gave me a party certificate for all of the miscommunication and trouble. Another employee (Darryl) was also very patient and helpful. We had also ordered pizzas for the walk in party and somehow they lost the ticket so we didn't get that until about 15 mins before they had to close down again for the next round of parties. Walk in at 1:30 pizzas ordered by 2:15, pizza finally arrives 3:45. Not thrilled but it was a very hectic day. The kids had fun and that's all that matters. Love the Lazer tag option. We will be back. Maybe we'll just have to book a month ahead next time. read more
