Shawn has been so disappointing to work with. Divorce is never fun, and I fully acknowledge how hard it is to be a mediator. But if you're going to offer mediation services, you probably should, you know, do a good job. Shawn did not.
Our divorce took 20 months to resolve, and Shawn made the process take AT LEAST 6 months longer than it otherwise would have. Shawn routinely took a week or more to respond to emails, even small ones. Just between the time we came to a verbal agreement on all matters and the write-up of the first draft of the MSA was 8 weeks (7 more than she promised), and only after repeated reminders did Shawn finally send us a draft. The delays required us to go to two additional court status updates just to say, "uh, we're still working on it, Your Honor."
The sessions with Shawn often devolved into her saying, "well, you guys will have to figure it out." We ended up doing most of the heavy lifting outside of meetings with Shawn, which defeated the purpose of having a mediator. We stopped scheduling meetings with Shawn since it was clear that she wasn't helping.
Her work on the MSA was riddled with typos and mistakes.
More importantly - probably because it took her so dang long - her work in written documents often failed to reflect the changes we had decided at our live sessions, which resulted in more delays and more work.
She consistently underestimated how much this process would cost. She initially said it would be just 2-3 meetings. At the end of the day, we paid over $7500 for (mostly) fruitless sessions, a mistake-filled MSA, and terrible communication. And after the whole thing was over, Shawn sent us an additional $1000 bill, just for good measure.
At every turn, Shawn over-promised and under-delivered. I strongly recommend a different mediator. read more
