Upon entering a warm, beautiful, welcoming environment I was greeted and offered a beverage while I filled out my paperwork to be seen by a student esthetician. Within minutes of filling out my paperwork I was whisked away to a cozy, warm room with dimmed lighting. Don't bother with this place. If their customer service is any indication of their actual services then this is not a place any consumer would want to be! Purchased a groupon and they were booked beyond it's expiration. Once they have me an appointment and said I could still use the groupon (thanks even though two months out) when the day came for the appointment my child care was sick so I had to reschedule. The cost to reschedule $35 - the cost if the groupon, which means no using the face value of the groupon after expiration! What a joke! As a person who receives regular spa services and wanted to try a new place out - never again with this place. My advice - stay away to avoid getting ripped off! read more

Called to make an appointment based on a friend's recommendation. The woman who picked up the phone did not even let me finish my question before telling me to "hold on" and handing me off to someone else; I was not put on hold and could hear everything she was saying. The schedules are disorganized and we weren't able to find a date that worked. I asked the last person on the phone who it was that answered the phone, and she informed me it was the owner. I bought a Groupon which was supposed to be 50% off the cost of microdermabrasion and a chemical peel. When I arrived, the front desk was busy and the teacher seemed angry about something. No welcome or happy greeting. A (nice) student performed the micro and when I asked her about my broken capillaries, she deferred to the teacher, who swept in, talked down to me, as if I was an ignorant moron who hadn't done research first, and was irritated with my question. When it came time for the chemical peel, the teacher again breezed in, and without saying a word to me, quickly swiped a 2X2 slightly moistened gauze over my face. I felt NOTHING, no tingling, or sensation whatsoever. On my way out, I discovered the 50% off was just a ruse to get you in the door and the cost is the actual student cost for the procedures. Their front desk is a disorganized mess with paper and pencil bookings. No one can find anything! The teacher focuses on her own self-importance rather than the welfare of the student/client. The teacher does not seem like a nice person and I felt totally uncomfortable leaving the student's cash tip with her. Despite this first bad experience, I went back to see my student and get a facial. I can't tell you how many times someone walked in and interrupted... between 6-10. It's a good idea to offer services at a discount so students can practice, but they seriously need some different management and some lessons in customer service. I can't imagine how those students are treated. read more

Spa is very attractive, HOWEVER front desk staff NEVER acknowledge you, unless you are their client. Not a "hello", not a "welcome" not even a "how may I help you" ....nothing and I have been there 3 times with same result. If I had not prepaid for services I am receiving I would not have returned after the second time, but after three times thus far....forget it...there are too many "client friendly" spa's to obtain services at. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would without thinking twice. If you are considering a Groupon or any other deal that is for Skin Alive, please think again! I purchased a Groupon for 6 laser hair removal treatments, the more I went, the more I couldn't wait for it to end. From my first time calling to set up an appointment, the phone would only continuously ring. By the time I spoke with someone when they called me back, they were completely rude and treated me like I have no intelligence. The lady who did my treatment the first two times was very nice and helpful, so that made it easier to put up with the rude people who worked the front desk. Especially after they confused me with another client and were about to do service on me without giving me any paperwork to sign or ask why I was there. The third-sixth appointments I was downgraded to someone who was hardly as nice or polite. Five out of six appointments I was early and always asked to wait until they were ready. The sixth appointment they asked me to reschedule (they had scheduled me for a day they weren't even open!) and I had to go earlier than I would have like due to their lack of open times later in the day (very common occurrence, if you work full time, this is difficult to fit in during the work week). They called while I was sitting at my desk at work, and when I agreed to re-schedule, the receptionist asked what my appointment was for. This was for my sixth visit and she was looking at my information in the client book! Let me tell you, I did NOT want to tell her on the phone sitting in my cubicle at work, that I was going for bikini line laser hair removal, so she kept guessing until she got it right..seriously! The morning of my appointment, they called and asked me to come in earlier, but there is no way I could because of my job. They said fine, but to try as much as possible to arrive early because the lady had to leave for her son's formal that night. I left 10 minutes early and got stuck in traffic. By the time I was pulling in 5 minutes late, I received a phone call from a completely rude receptionist telling me the lady was on her way out and I shouldn't have been late. Since I was there, she didn't leave, but she didn't perform the full service I had paid for. My appointment was 3:40. She told me she had an hour drive to get to see her son and take pictures for his formal before his limo left at 5 pm. IF that were true, why would she be scheduled at 3:40 in the first place??? That is just one story, but many more like that happened in only six appointments. Please do not fall into the trap I did for this "deal." Other than extremely poor customer service, the laser removal was minimal and patchy at best. I will need to have this re-done if I don't want to be embarrassed looking like I have an unnatural hairline. Couldn't be more disappointed. read more

This was one of the worst experiences of my life. They were not prepared for me and as a result brought me in 20 minutes late. During my microderm the owner entered the room unexpectedly, abruptly and loudly, instructing my technician on what to and not to do. The one thing I requested and really wanted with my package was the foot massage. As you could have guessed from my rating, I didn't get it. My face burned for 2 hours after the treatment. I don't know if she was wearing latex gloves but I did note on my health form that I had a mild allergy to latex. I won't be going back! read more

Funny, the review above, Kristy looks like one of the staff members at the salon. Anyway, I bought a Groupon for laser hair removal, the area which I choose was underarms. The underarms are the easiest and take the best to laser...meaning its the easiest part of the body to get permanent removal. I have been 5 times out of my 6 treatments and I still have all of my hair. Absolutely none of the hair had successful results, I have pale skin and black course hair which is the best possible condition for a laser to get permanent results. My regular esthetician said the results should be better than my legs which I had done else where and were completely free of hair re-growth after 4 treatments from another salon. She said it must be the laser that they use, it is old or they are using it on a low setting to get you to buy more packages. The treatment is WAY below standard and the ladies are rude and made me feel like I was bothering them when I needed to change an appointment. I have been told to call back at other times to get my questions answered. I got my money back as Groupon will refund when you are not satisfied. I guess they don't get many lasting clients form these promotions as it seems like most people are very unhappy with the business and the service. read more

I just got home from using my Groupon at Skin Alive in Mequon. When I called to make my appointment, I was not told that I would be getting a student - one who was less than a month into her six-month program. Keep in mind that the student rate is about 1/2 of what the regular rate is, so I actually got NO discount with my Groupon because the Groupon was for 1/2 off the regular rate! I was greatly disturbed that the door swung open and people walked into my room 5 times during the course of my facial/hand and foot massage (keep in mind I am naked on the table). One time, I was getting my feet rubbed, and someone came in, left the door wide open, and started rummaging around in a drawer by my head. I sat up startled, and she said, "What?" I said, "You startled me" and she said, "Oh" - no apologies . . . nothing. As I was getting dressed after my treament, once again the door swung open for ANOTHER person to enter (now number 6) and I luckily shouted, "Stop, I'm getting dressed!". Again, no apology. When I asked about it, I was told, "That's what you get for coming to a school!" I will not return. read more

DO NOT go here for laser hair removal (LHR). I went for nine sessions over about a year and had very poor results. Yes, I had some reduced hair growth, but nine sessions should have been enough to take care of most of it. Plus, the service is terrible and I don't think they use the right laser. I just had my first session at a different spa, and the laser was totally different. I am already seeing amazing results after ONE session. My conclusion? Something was off at Skin Alive. Now, after experiencing LHR at a different spa, I can reflect on how BAD things were at Skin Alive: 1) No one explained how the laser worked or what the procedure would be like. It is standard practice to give the patron an overview of what to expect, especially when it is a medspa procedure. 2) For the bikini area, they should offer paper underwear. Instead, I had to wear my own and assist the technician in moving the underwear around when she was working. This is NOT how it is at a respectable spa. The result was me feeling very awkward and vulnerable during the procedure. 3) The lady I went to NEVER remembered who I was. I understand she has many customers, but I had to remind her of what she was supposed to do each time I went. Don't you have a chart with my details or something?! 4) The lady performing my LHR was NOT thorough. She would only take about 5 minutes and skim over certain areas. It takes twice as long at my new spa because the woman I go to does a complete job. 5) Pain. I understand that there will be some pain involved, but the pain at Skin Alive was much worse than where I go now. Now I know that they are supposed to use plenty of gel to lubricate the laser and cool your skin, and even offer aloe after. Did Skin Alive do that? Nope, and that made the process more painful. 6) Customer service. The worst part about Skin Alive was the customer service. Yes, the lady who did the LHR was superficially nice. But, like I said, she never knew who I was or what my service was supposed to be. Also, the front desk staff was deplorable. They are crass and rude. I heard them loudly complaining about customers numerous times and they never acknowledge your presence. Overall, this place is just NOT a classy establishment. Don't expect to see results with the LHR, and don't expect to be treated like a valued customer. read more

She is extremely knowledgeable and knows what she is doing. I totally lucked into discovering Skin Alive through Google and just had my first experience there. The bad reviews here scared me but I found the atmosphere very relaxing. Soft music, warm towels, top of the line products, and thoughtful recommendations for my skin. Gail is direct but certainly not rude; I guess some spa clientele are used to being coddled and sucked up to LOL! I had the derma planning and Chemical exfoliation. My skin IMMEDIATELY felt smoother!
