He tailored the facial to my needs and did a great job in explaining the products and how he used them throughout the facial. He was pleasant, knowledgable, made me feel special, and I left GLOWING. Popped in, and had a men's section for shaving in the back and the girl seemed to know what she was talking about. She had this cream to put on AFTER the shave to reduce the burning irritation, but I was specifically looking for a pre-application, so there'd be less drag. I've never had a facial -unless you count the masks from the drugstore and bananas and whatnot that you slather on your face with friends at a sleepover when you're 12. I've always had "bad" skin - acne, rosacea, eczema, allergies/hives, dryness/flakiness, oil-slicks - and I like to pick at it too (a big no-no, I'm aware, thanks). Given that my "sensitive" skin has never, and I mean never, responded well to anything I've put on it (pick any brand you can buy at Shoppers and I've tried it). I stopped buying skin care products all together about 5 years ago and have resorted to warm water + facecloth + sunscreen (zinc) when I'm outside.Oh ya, and I'm not a makeup lover - lately my coworkers are getting spoiled if I put on mascara. Fast forward to Skoah... I went in for a Facialicious, mostly on a whim because I was in Kensington at Wild& Raw and decided that with my new hair and nails (I have friends weddings coming up) that I should have "new" skin too. My "skin care trainer" greeted me promptly even though I was 5 minutes early. I was shown into the treatment room, which many other reviews go over: decent music, super cozy and warm bed, a little basket for your personal items, and a lip treatment on my pillow. She was very good with talking in calming tones, asking precise questions and explaining concisely what she was doing. I felt like there was probably 200x the amount of product on my face I have ever used. That being said, it wasn't goopy - it was really luxurious. I also like that the extractions were done thoroughly and it's my goal to not pick until my next appointment (6 weeks feels like forever - it's only been 1 day!). Because I haven't bought anything in years, I bought everything she used on me, knowing that if I needed to exchange anything I didn't feel was working right, I have the option to do that. The girls helped me come up with options for how to combine the products into different packages to maximize discounts and freebies. I got home and seriously couldn't stop looking in the mirror. No lines, no redness, no flakes, no oil-slicks. It looks like somebody Perfect365'ed my face in real time as I looked into the mirror.This morning, same thing. Thus far, I would highly recommend the facials and products. I'll do an update after my next visit in 6 weeks :D Tips: Don't be in a hurry. Ask questions. Enjoy! I am new to Calgary and picked Skoah based on reviews on yelp. Despite the excellent reviews, I was extremely disappointed with the service. I particularly asked an aesthetician to focus on extractions, but all I got was a face massage and exfoliation - I can do it at home! I particularly asked her to focus on my chin and neck, as these two areas are my most problematic zones (acne), but as she inspected it, she said that she's unable to clean the most of the acne. So, if you want a $120 face massage, Skoah is the place to go. However, for a real cleanse, detox, and extractions I will have to find a new salon. Oh, and by the way, if you're late (because of the traffic), your facial will be short as well. read more

What an incredible business Skoah Kensington is. I've been a member since December and I've had 4 incredible facials at this studio. The aestheticians have all been amazing and the front of house staff are so polite and accommodating. Even during this crazy pandemic their customer service goes above and beyond. I reached out over social media to inquire about a gift and the owner called me personally and even hand delivered my package in the same day. I was lucky enough to receive a skoah membership from my boyfriend this past Christmas and have revisited skoah 3 times now. The first time was for a power facial (45 mins) which includes all your standard stuff + exfoliation + extractions. I enjoyed it but the 45 minutes flew right by! The next time I decided to go for the longer facialicious facial (75 mins) which includes everything above plus custom masks and a head to toe massage. Colby was exceptional! She is friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable about skincare. She made some great recommendations to add to my existing routine and recommended some products but was certainly not pushy which I appreciated! Her massages are the best and you can tell she definitely goes the extra mile. I went back for another facialicious facial today with her and she was phenomenal as usual. I will continue to return to skoah Kensington as long as Colby is around! All the front desk staff are super wonderful and helpful as well. read more

I've been going to skoah since they opened in chinook and I feel like the quality has consistently declined. During the last facial, they skipped the shoulder/neck massage (which I loved, in the past). What's worse, I left with my skin feeling parched, and when I mentioned this they proceeded to simply upsell their other products. This was my first real facial ever. I'd never heard of skoah before, but live near the Kensington location and had noticed it quite a few times while running errands etc., in this area of Calgary. I recently moved to Calgary from BC and my skin has not been impressed with the dry climate. I never really had any problems with my skin, but since October it has gotten very red, is irritated easily and I have a ton of whiteheads. It's a really sad thing when you have never had a problem before and all of a sudden it feels like it is impossible to get rid of :( Anyways, I decided to go into skoah one afternoon to see what it was all about, the receptionist suggested I try either the 'Skin Fit'($70) or 'Facialiscious'($100). The mention of 'massage' was what sold me on the Facialiscious treatment. It was amazing, and nothing like I'd expected. I was worried that it would be super painful and I'd be having blotchy, red & irritated skin for at least a couple days after.... This was not the case at all. My skin looked SO much better immediately after the treatment. Penny was so sweet and accomodating. She gave me a lot of tips on taking care of my skin, and explained every product and it's benefits (Obviously a requirement to try and push sales on products, but it was fine with me as I was interested in finding new products for my skin anyhow). The masks felt sooo moisturizing and refreshing. And EVERY product she used smelled soooo yummy. The beds are heated and you have a down comforter overtop of you, it is the ultimate relaxation facial! The leg/foot/shoulder/arm/scalp massages were also very nice - The lotion was very hydrating and it was a really nice touch especially being someone who has a lot of tension problems & knots. Oh also they give you a little complimentary sample of one of their products - I got the Tropikal Love Body Wash. The music playing was great, no babbling brooks or anything like that. Actually one of my favourite songs came on during my treatment (Seeing Julie by Kaskade) which was nice! I didn't feel any pressure at all to buy products, but maybe that's because I'd already planned on buying some. It is a bit pricey ($60 for the dewlux face kream) - But I think worth it for what you get. I'm a College student so I had to set a budget. If I could I would've bought everything Penny used on my facial! I got the Dewlux Face Kream, and the Kleansing Lotion. Have only been using them for a couple of days so will probably come back to let everyone in on the progress and how it has been on my skin. So far so good. Sorry for the long review, but felt it was necessary as I see they don't have any yet! skoah is definitely a must try, even if you don't get a facial - I definitely reccommend trying the products... I've had a facial here and the brow star eyebrow shaping and I really liked both. The facial was especially good, they have really reasonable prices for what you get and even with the extraction my face didn't get all red and irritated. Like others, I think the small sample product is really a nice touch. I also liked that they recommended products I might find helpful for my skin but they weren't pushy about it at all, their product prices are more than I would normally spend, but seem to be cheaper than comparable products at other spas and if you pre-book your next appointment then you'll get a $10 credit towards products which helps with the cost. I will be going back to Skoah Kensington for my future facials. read more

Im addicted to facials, so after reading the favorable Yelp reviews on skoah, I decided to check it out before my vacation. I was surprised that i'd never noticed it before, because I walk through Kensington a lot, but I found it pretty easily. I was a little taken aback when I walked in because the decor was very simple, and it seemed really small but after filling out my forms I headed back into the facial room. I was happy to see my little sample on the pillow that I had read about (I got the konditioner) and after undressing I snuggled into the heated bed - divine!! Super cozy and relaxing. My facialist (Vanessa) seemed friendly and knowledgable about the products, I liked that she told me what she was using each time (because I knew I would be buying a few things). After the facial my skin felt AMAZING...it wasnt blotchy and red like it is after some facials. My only complaint was that she was a LITTLE rough with the extractions, but to be fair I had a monster on my forehead and it did need some work. I also purchased the 'aha mask' and a sample kit with a bunch of other small products for $25. Its been about 2 weeks using this stuff and my skin has never looked better. I am heading back there this weekend to pick up a full size bottle of the 'turbo tonik' and the 'hydradew mask'. Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but everything smells SO yummy and really works with my skin. A couple days later I recieved an email from skoah, thanking me for coming and wishing me a great time on my vacation! I thought that was a really nice touch. I cant wait to go back. I went for the facialicious and really enjoyed the facilities and the products- I bought an oil based cleanser which is now my favourite. But I second the notion that the girls are WAYYYY too chatty. After seeing the reviews stating this I called and specifically asked the receptionist to tell the girl who would be doing my facial that I wanted to relax and not chat that much- especially since this is over an hour long procedure. Well- the opposite of this happened, and I ended up talking the WHOLE time. Everything from other clients to my boyfriend to my school to my job to her job urgh. I mean this is why I asked upon booking because at the point where I am laying there naked what can I really do but very rudely say "Be Quiet" and make the rest of my procedure very awkward- so I just chat and chat and chat by the end I have a headache. I also agree that rubbing the back of my neck while I am laying on my back is borderline painful but my own fault for not speaking up, I guess I was too busy trying to converse. At the end I rebooked but later cancelled, as I am not sure I want to spend the money when i could chat to a stranger for an hour and a half on the street, completely free. On the otherhand I want more products so will probably buy online. I guess this just boils down to whether or not you mind the chatter when you are paying for spa services. I am firmly a believer in the service provider taking cues from the customer and mirroring their level of chattiness. read more

This was my 4th or 5th visit to Skoah over the years and unfortunately I won't be back. I had the power facial which was supposed to be 45 minutes but was not. It was closer to 30 or 35 minutes. And when I mentioned that to the girl who did my facial when I came out to the front, she couldn't really offer up much of an explanation and scurried away while pointing me towards the cashier. When I mentioned it to the cashier that a 45 minutes facial should actually be 45 minutes, she snarkly replied to me that I received all the lotions and everything in the treatment regardless of the full time and that she couldn't give me a discount. I wasn't asking for a discount at all, but I do feel strongly about the fact that a 45 minute facial should be 45 minutes. Most of all, I was disappointed with the service I received from the staff when I told them how I felt. read more

Since I am a student, I am always stressed out. Going to Skoah monthly really helps relax. I also have terribly pimply skin. So far, the products are really working for me. I am starting to breakout less. My first time was good but it wasn't the best, I guess it's because I had a new aesthetician. However, since Mindy did my facial, my skin has been glowing. I received appropriate advice about taking care of my skin. The massage was also phenomenal. It is pretty expensive, over $700 for a membership, but it's worth it. read more

I had a facial there last week and unfortunately it goes down as the worst I have had. The ENTIRE time during my facial was spent trying to sell me every product under the sun. I honestly would have loved to hear about it afterwards and probably would have purchased some but simply because of how badly pressured I felt I wanted to run out of there immediately after. I was not relaxed, and it honestly as not a very effective facial. I left with several white heads (that easily could have been extracted) still on my face. When I compare this to where I had my last facial (Sante spa in mission) it doesn't even compare. I would look elsewhere. Personality wise they were all very nice, but that doesn't quite help when paying $100+ for a facial that feels like a crash course on Skoah product knowledge. read more

The products the esthetician used were for the most part appropriate for my skin type. The facial started and ended on time. Important if you are getting a lunch hour facial. I booked a facial here for my loved one, and the lady on the phone (who was super nice) told me that it would be "75 minutes of hands on." It would cost us $120, but I was completely fine with it since I wanted the best facial! I dropped off my mum, and it turns out the entire experience was less than 60 minutes. There was no "massage" portion to the facial and overall it was an unsatisfactory experience. As a student, 120$ is a lot of money for me, and it was completely wasted at Skoah. And, the hair serum ($20) at the front till which was supposedly weightless and nongreasy, was completely the opposite. Please save your time and money, and just avoid this place. Do not allow the packaging and catch phrases (peptides-heard that 20x times there) lure you into nothingness. read more

I have been a loyal Skoah customer for 2 years now and recommenced it to all my friends, but just recently I had a terrible experience which not okay when it comes to your own skin. I usually get a power or fitskin facial once every 2 months, but decided to get a quick detox session in between. Nothing wrong with the cleanliness or anything like that, but the quality of the facial was poor. Detox facial is meant for extractions, and I have a lot of blackheads so I was hoping she would help clear that up. Instead she just picked at my face at areas that were already irritated and left all the black heads. I left with my face all red, the pimples I had before worse, and all the blackheads still left on my forehead. I have ajob interview tomorrow and now I am going to have to cake on the makeup just to hide all the red on my face. I feel as though she scarred my face more. I am such a huge fan of skoah and have so many of thier products, I am even a member there, but this experience was so poor I felt I had to share. I am now weary to return for any other facials. read more
