I started coming to this spot back when it was a quaint little 4 room service spa. Now it's got plentiful more rooms, enough staff to serve a kingdom and way more services I'd like to try...when I win the lotto. It's a full service spa, you get a locker with robe, slippers and sauna access. No pool. Single vanity area with hair dryer, q-tips, hair ties, etc. Bring your own brush. I'll review what I have tried: Facials - man, no one does it better. They tuck you into an electronically warmed blanket. I like my facials to really do the nitty gritty, get all my pores cleansed and tightened. This means extractions. And if you have no idea what extractions are like, well maybe you don't want to. If you do, you'll know how tedious and painful it can be. Well S.E.S has it down to an art. They have special tools for extractions that they constantly clean. I know this because they constantly spray down their tools with alcohol. I can hear it and smell it while in between being in pain. They exfoliate - steam - extract - cleanse - mask - tone. The whole shebang and they don't even charge you extra like some other places. In between waiting times while your face is soaking up the mask? They massage your hands. Body scrub - pretty neat concept and makes your whole body feel like you just came from the womb. Seriously. The only thing that stops me from getting this service more often is the fact that I have to lay there naked while two women scrub me all over while I am laying in an open capsule. After the scrub they close the capsule (head outside) and the water jets spray you down. There's a good resting period where it warms up like a sauna and you are totally encased in a good steam. There's light therapy that goes on so your body is illuminated in techno colored lights. The whole techie capsule thing is quite the experience. Weight loss - yes. I tried it. I could only bring myself to try it a handful of times. Hard to explain, they offer target area treatments, and hook a massage device up to a machine. There's light therapy added to the rolling device that they use and treat your choice of area for x amount of time. They log your measurements after every session. I effectively lost an inch (no I am not going to disclose where) but of course gained it all back in three fold. Not my fault they are across from a DQ. Massage - I've never heard of lumbar. I've never heard of pressure point massages. All I know is that it works and I always feel great afterwards. I'll leave it up to them to explain the sorcery behind all of that, but I will tell you that I can never stay away through a whole session. They won't make small talk if you don't want to. I love it. Yes, they do insurance claims. Eyelash extensions - no, they aren't advertising much of this like other places. I'm guessing because they are so extremely booked for extensions they don't need to. Natural looking, yup. Longer fuller doll looking, yup. The technician who is also the owner, Sandy has been doing this before all the lash places became a thing. Why she never got recognition as one of the first people in Calgary to be doing extensions is beyond me. She knows her stuff. Perfect set all the time. Parking is situated at the back, through the alley. It shares a small lot with the condos upstairs and another spa right next door (I don't understand this). Quick summary: Sandy at European Spa performed my facial three weeks ago and I have permanent scaring on my cheeks from her overly deep extractions! I would not recommend this place to anyone. I had clear, acne-free skin without any scars prior to my visit. I am deeply disappointed. My experience: I frequent a different salon on a regular basis and never experienced scarring before. My skin was clear before my facial at European Spa and now I'm waiting for a visit to my dermatologist to hopefully remove the extraction scars. I have since cancelled future appointments and informed them of the situation, where I was not offered any solutions. During the facial, I noticed it was more painful than my regular visits with my other spa. Sandy even warned me that the next couple of extractions were going to be painful since they were deep. When the facial was finished, my face had many blood spots and was very red. I thought the dark spots would go away within a couple weeks, but it has now been three weeks and my scaring is permanent. After further research, I've since learned "extractions are a good way to rid your skin of blackheads -- not whiteheads -- but don't let the aesthetician go too deep. A good practitioner will back away from anything not coming out easily." In sum, I do not recommend European Spa for facials. read more

As of this review I've been coming here for about 10 months now. I really enjoy the facials and the extractions are thorough. I pre book my appointments in advance as they can get pretty busy if you're wanting a weekend appointment. The facial prices are pretty reasonable and much cheaper than any high end spa that charges exorbitant prices that don't do anything for your face. I've been getting facials since 2003 (starting in Vancouver) and the I expect them to have extremely painful extractions and thorough cleansing. I don't like the quick cleansing, half assed massages, throw on a mask and leave the room type. They're hands on for every single step. Expect an arm and hand massage while your face is getting steamed, and then an upper back and shoulder massage while your mask sets. I don't come here for any of the other services anymore as I don't think they do them very often. They're more specialized in facials. They do a great extraction process in the deep pore Facial I got. Not like other spa's where they barely extract anything. Here they actually get all those blackheads out. You know it works when you feel the pain. If you don't feel pain, they are not doing it right. I had Ida and she was great! She gave me tips on how to take care of your face. The rooms is nice and relaxing. 5 star for the extraction minus 1 for the price. They aren't cheap either haha read more

I've tried a lot of places in calgary that offer facials. Either they are really expensive or they don't do that good of a job. European Spa's prices are very reasonable and are worth every penny. I got a basic facial as my biggest concern was the extraction. They do not fall short on extracting. They get everything out of your face, while you do leave with ur face all beaten up (took my face a couple days) before all red marks, etc went away. My face looked amazing. I would recommend this place with flying colors if you are looking for a good facial that doesn't charge too much. read more

Sandy is great.... she took her time and i walked out of there with a perfect set of eyelash extensions. She had to remove a set I had done 2 days prior and they were a disaster. I would highly recommend Sandy and her salon..... my eyelash extension look so natural. read more

This is my second review and I told my self that i would only write a review if got an excellent or an extremely bad experience . All I can say is wow. This is my 3rd time coming to this spa and I can say that they have a very very large selections of facials . Everytime i come to the spa i am always greeted like a family member by the workers. Warm and welcoming atmosphere .My first time coming here I had a deep cleaning to remove my filth off my face and I can honestly say that was the most painful one I've ever had in my life; However, it was also the best one I've had . My face within the next 2 days was really smooth and soft and the redness had went away . So now I've been trying different types and I had each one of them done by different workers and I can honestly say every worker there is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I love coming here! It has a very comfortable vibe and super clean. The staff is super accommodating and go way above and beyond to offer fantastic customer care and service. Upon entry you're greeted by their friendly staff; offering you drinks after facial. Sandy is EXCELLENT! I've had other chinese facials before from my friends referrals but I will never go back to them again after experiencing my facial with Sandy. She is knowledgeable, patient and so friendly. She explained what she was doing every step of the way with the whole process. She never pressured me into purchasing the product and she does an awesome job of recommending different ways to change up my face cleansing process and maintain a good healthy skin. On the plus side, her facials come with an amazing neck, hand, arm, head and shoulder massage. I'm a cook so my muscles are tense so she asked me how hard I wanted my massage. She is surprisingly strong and she really cares of me and loves what she is doing. Sandy is so sweet and patient. She was talkative without being fake (well, as far as I can tell) and even asked if I preferred talking or zoning out. She also offered to talk me through what products she's using or if I preferred, she will just complete the treatment without mentioning the products. Also,I have had my facial done by 4 different staffs there and every single person is consistent and good at what they do, so even if you don't know anyone there or can't get the owner, the other girls do a good job. read more
