I've always had a great experience at Skycrest, but today's interaction by phone with Becca was ridiculously passive aggressive and unprofessional. We couldn't get in to be seen soon enough for my new puppy's training to begin, and when I asked if I could be put on a waitlist, she immediately said no we don't do that. I said I've been a client for a long time, and I know that they've called when appointments have become available to which she responded that, "... it's too difficult to manage and we don't do that. Do you want to take him somewhere else?" When I responded that I'm not going to take him to a different vet clinic when all of our other pets are there, she proceeded without acknowledging her tone or inflexibility and questioned whether or not I still wanted the appointment or if I wanted to establish my puppy someplace else. At this point, I was pretty frustrated. She then informed me that she was unable to schedule the appointment until I paid a $76 new patient deposit. Because I had (just two months ago) brought my second cat in as a new patient and never heard of this policy, I questioned it and asked when it was established. She said it was a couple of years ago and did I want the appointment or not. I said, yes, of course, and she said I can't make the appointment unless you pay the deposit. At this point, I'm pretty Irritated and asked if she would prefer to receive that payment by carrier pigeon, Postal Service, or how she wanted it paid because at this point I'm pissed and just trying to finish booking the appointment. She then said nothing and put me on hold as her way of hanging up. I called back immediately and spoke with another representative who was more than pleasant, which has always been my experience prior to today and was able to get us in a week sooner. I get that some people are better with animals than they are with humans, but this is my first negative experience with Skycrest. Disappointing. People are 10 times more likely to share their negative experiences than they are their positive, it's just human nature. We are moving and after being there since 1978 (Dr. Rader) I have to say good by to some of the most caring and amazing vets I've ever had the honor of bringing my dogs too. I know I will never find another vet with this level of knowledge and compassion-but I will try. I have three dogs. I live in Long Grove; Skycrest is in Long Grove. I never took my dogs to them because I assumed it was too expensive. Wrong! It's not anymore expensive than many of these half priced vaccination vets. I found this out because a half priced vet over-sedated my lab to trim her nails and just about killed her. That was the weekend Skycrest saw me... They could have over charged; they could have delayed my appt because I wasn't an existing patient. But, they didn't. They saw her immediately. The other kudos they get - no judgments. There is a vet there for every pet owner. I treat my pets more holistically. Often, I've been judged for not doing this or that. Surprisingly, they have a couple vets that understand where I'm coming from... and treat me and my pet accordingly. You just have to communicate openly about your goals. Receptionist over the phone was extremely rude. We were new clients and tried to find a new clinic for our recently adopted puppy and also had a couple questions on what we should do to help my hurt puppy. She was passive aggressive and I could just tell she was annoyed with us when all we were trying to do is get help. She kept telling us to go to the emergency clinic which we UNDERSTOOD. We learned the very hard way that Skycrest does not care much for anything but charging for substandard care. We live very close, so took our cat three times in the summer of 2017. The last visit was on a Wednesday, when I met my husband there after work. They couldn't diagnose (?????) but said she should be fine. My daughter brought them her body early on Friday morning, after she suffered an agonizing death the night after her visit. I am a realist. I have had cats all of my 67 years. All are cared for very well, and are indoor cats. Recently we had multiple rescue cats. Losing them is sad. However, losing them so painfully (to them) is inexcusable, especially when appropriate care was sought. I must say they did move quickly when they were presented a dead cat by a crying owner, but we never received any apologies, or answers. Certainly not a place to recommend!! read more

I will be a life long client of Skycrest. They prevented my golden from going blind when he was a year and have proactively helped keep my three dogs healthy and happy over the years. Each and every vet is kind and caring, often getting on the floor to give my pups hugs and kisses at appointments and calling regularly after procedures to check in on recovery. Recently, my 11 year old goat bloat in the middle of the night on the coldest day in Chicago history and Dr. Wojick went to the office at 5:15am to check his records and call the emergency vet with instructions on an allergy he had. I could never thank Dr. Locke enough for all she did to treat my Schnoodle, Rocky. He was blind, diabetic, and had cancer but she never gave up on him. We have been seeing Dr. Wojcik for 12 plus years. The entire life of our dog Kobe. A miniature Poodle. Recently Kobe had a small wart and a nodule removed from his rear leg, plus his first dental cleaning. The entire experience with all the staff and Dr. Kris was remarkable. Attention to detail and even pics of the operation plus before and after shots of his dental cleaning and the removal of both wart and nondule! Out come 100%! Anyone looking for a Vetrinary experience where you and your pet are cared for MUST see Skycrest!! Thank you Dr. Wojcik and Dr. Locke and all of the vet techs that helped our fur baby. We have been going to Skycrest since we moved to the area. Dr. Wojcik is the most compassionate and caring vet that I have come across and I have had dogs my entire life. Saturday they took us in on an emergency visit and later Monday did surgery on our soft Coated Wheaton Terrior. It was a hard decision to have surgery or send him to puppy heaven. He is 12 years old and had the odds stacked against him. Dr. Wojcik spent an hour with us with our options and giving us all the information we needed to make a decision that we thought was fair to everyone (and no she did not talk us into surgery). Our little guy had a very hard time after surgery and they let me lay with him to comfort him for hours and nurse him back. He is now home and we are hoping that the results come back that the mass is not cancerous but even if it is I know we did the right thing. I recently moved from California and was looking for a vet to take my Rottweiler and French bulldog to. I found skycrest and called them to explain the situation with my Rotty and why he is a bit of a challenge. Skycrest was very understanding and was able to get me in at my requested time since I was off work. They also promptly roomed us which made me happy not only for my pet not stressing out but also for the other guests in the waiting area. While in the exam room Dr.Burke and her staff all treated salami with love and care. Our previous vet in CA never examined his eyes, never swabbed his ears, just stood in the door way and would look from afar because he was scared. Dr.Burke did a thorough examination and touched his eyes and hips and the tech did a nail clipping. I was so happy that my big old man doggy got the love and care he deserves. read more

I can't put into words how I feel about Skycrest and I can't believe it has taken me this long to write a 5 star review (long overdue!). We have been coming here and trusting them for 8+ years with our very dramatic basset hound. The doctors are amazing and continuously made us feel like our sweet Mara was their only patient. After several years, Mara was diagnosed with cancer and I felt as if I had Skycrest on speed dial. They were always so reliable, accommodating and very compassionate with every call and question I had during that 2 year period. When it was time to say goodbye to our precious girl, Dr. Wojcik came out of nowhere on her day off to hand hold our family in need. I don't know what we would have done without her over the years, and especially on that fateful day. I don't think I've met anyone with a bigger heart than Dr. Wojick. When we are ready to adopt a new bundle of fur, Skycrest will be our first call. They are truly the best! read more

I have been taking my English Springer Spaniels to Skycrest Animal Clinic in Long Grove for 18 years! My dogs have been in the care of Dr. Wojcik, Dr. Locke and Dr. Shears and all three of them are fabulous. When I moved to downtown Chicago in 2014, I tried to find a "Skycrest-like" clinic in the city to no avail. So my dogs happily road trip to the burbs for wellness exams and anything else that crops up through the year. Hands down the best veterinary clinic in Illinois. My dogs get great care, and I always feel as though the team takes time with examinations and really pull together to find solutions to any ailment. After a terrible experience at another vet clinic in the area (see my review for Wheeling Animal Hospital), my mother and I took her dog to Skycrest for a 2nd opinion. They saw us immediately, which was great since our dog was in really rough shape. We saw Dr. Shears, who was not only informative and thorough, but very kind and funny as well. The front desk staff was extremely nice and helpful and the bill was fair and what we expected. Overall this was a terrific experience and my parents will be bringing their other dog here from now on as well. read more

I am very disappointed. People can vaccinate their dogs. You don't have to be a vet to give your dog a shot. The caveat is that prescription from the doctor is required for syringe This hospital refused to write a prescription even though I am their client. It is taking away their business, if owner that giving vaccines to their pets, but I will find another place.... especially that their prices are not cheap. We had to put our dog to sleep recently and were referred to this clinic after a bad experience at our last vet who didn't act with a sense of urgency with our very sick dog. I had an emergency with my dog and called this place explaining that we had recently moved to the area and didn't have a regular vet yet. They immediately said they could squeeze him in and I could come right away. The staff was warm and very friendly. Dr Locke was great! Compassionate and thorough and spent enough time with us to make us feel well taken care of. I was also impressed with the bill. I anticipated a huge bill for the last minute appointment but it was very reasonable. I also called the next day with a question and when a different doctor (not dr Locke) got back to me about 30 minutes later she was great too! Spent several minutes on the phone with me and never sounded hurried or like she was rushing me off the phone. I was nervous to go to a random vet when my dog fell ill without looking for reviews. But since he was in distress I wanted him seen ASAP. I sure got lucky with Skycrest!! read more

Was referred by our specialist but am very disappointed. Our dog has a life threatening immune disorder and only needs basic services outside what our specialist provides. Staff called and insisted that our dog be given vaccines and then stated they needed additional information about why she wasn't getting them. The person on the phone had no understanding of IMHA and neither did the office manager. That's concerning as a pet owner. When they found the counter to their argument in their files they then proceeded to deny that they provided basic services-even though they have provided them in the past. Hoping it's just a training issue and a lack of basic knowledge on the part of the non-mds but concerned that the staff is telling people who may not know to do things that are potentially deadly to their pets. read more

I've been going to Skycrest since I got my then puppy, Zoe, back in 2008. I'd heard good things about them and by chance got Dr. Stephanie Locke who is absolutely outstanding. She's kind, gentle, knowledgeable and talks through everything with you in an unhurried way which is priceless. She even typically gets on the floor to do her exams to ease the dog's anxiety. She is realistic about options and really gets to know your animal. For example, my sweet girl is remarkably good when things have to be done to her. This isn't just mama's blind pride because Dr. Locke also knows this about her. So when she was brought in with a small growth on the inner edge of her eyelid, Dr. Locke knew her well enough to know that rather than having to put her under--which is more dangerous and more costly--that she could do the procedure with just a local. She did, Zoe was a good girl and we were both spared the anxiety of full anesthesia. My girl now has Cushing's and again, Dr. Locke has been wonderful working with us to keep her healthy. Over the years I think I've seen every doctor in the practice at least once for emergency or unplanned appointments and they are all excellent. I quite literally couldn't recommend Skycrest or Dr. Locke any more highly . . . and if you knew me, you'd know how picky I am and be even more impressed by this review! read more

Do not trust this vet!! Brought my dog Milo in for nasal congestion back in early Sept. of this year. Dr. Shears was the vet and she suggested getting xrays of his head. Milo has always had hind leg issues since we got him as a rescue (spinal, Neurologic). Milo walked in under his own power and Dr.Shears walked milo back for xrays. Ten minutes later they come back carrying milo saying he can't use his hind legs. I asked them repeatedly what did you do to my dog with no clear answer. They couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Few days later the owner calls me asking how milo is and he still had no use of hind legs. This conversation only ended in an argument basically them NOT admitting to what happened and i still have no idea what did happen. Did they drop him, did he fall? No idea cause no one wants to come forward. Well, this friday we had to make the hardest decision a pet owner has to do. During this time period milo only got worse and never did regain his hind legs. This vet doesn't care at all about your pet. All they see is dollar signs as soon as you walk in. read more

I would give zero stars to this clinic. My dr told me my dog had cancer. Anal sac cancer. She did a needle biopsy and then sent it to a lab.Their lab confirmed the cancer. Well my dog was 11 at the time so I wasn't going to treat the cancer. They advised me not to give him any more shots or heart worm etc. me and my kids were heartbroken that he was going to die within 6-18 months. That's what they told us. So...3 years go by and every day we were watching for signs of death. It was agony. I finally had to bring the dog back in for an ear infection. The they said it was a miracle because the cancer was gone! Seriously?! Cancer doesn't just disappear. I was so stunned I didn't know what to do. I should have taken Action but I didn't. It was just overwhelming. It was awful for all of us for years. In any case, my dog is at the end of his life now-naturally- and so I called upon the clinic to make amends and help me put him down. They denied that I was told he had cancer or that I had lab results confirming said cancer. Treated me like a fool. Changed my words, and their words, to make it sound like the word cancer was only a suggestion! Sure, that's why we had a lab test it?! Then said I could do a payment plan for euthanasia! I would never go here. You always have to wait well over an hour past your appointment. No one ever says anything to you while you wait that long! your bill is always hundreds of dollars as well. Honestly better business bureau needs to know. read more

We just visited for the first time when our cat was very sick. The entire staff here was great! The vet and the tech sat with us and explained all our options. In the end she had cancer and we could only amke her comfortable for a little while. A few weeks later our kitty passed away during the night. The vet heard about it the next day and called to check in with us. It was very thoughtful of them. We will be going there with all of our pets from now on. I have been taking my Golden Retriever to Skycrest since we moved to the area nine years ago. Dr. Wojcik is amazing and treats my dog like her own. I have also seen other vets in the practice who are equally as attentive and caring. They always get my permission for any test or x-ray that they think needs done, and I have said no before without pressure. I would never take my dog to another practice. I like the doctors at Skycrest especially Dr Wilner. The staff are very friendly but they don't seem to be very organized. They seem to be unsure about shots my dogs were getting. It would be nice if they go over the charts before calling me. I'm really sad that I have to leave this office. Again, the doctors are great but the office isn't organized. I started taking my dog to Skycrest after some bad experiences at Wheeling Animal Hospital. I am so glad I did! Dr. Locke has been the primary vet for my now, 8-year old dog, who I took there when she was just 9 weeks old. Dr. Locke is warm, down to earth, and takes the time to talk TO you, versus AT you. I never feel like I'm rushed and she answers all my questions clearly and thoroughly. I trust her judgement implicitly. Over the years I've had my dog in to see some of the other vets that make up the Skycrest practice. While they never gave me any cause to say anything negative about them, they just weren't Dr. Locke. I guess it's just a personal preference. The majority of techs and front office staff are friendly and caring. All-in-all, I have to say I feel very comfortable taking my animals to Skycrest and highly recommend Dr. Locke to anybody seeking premium care for their pets. And by by premium, I'm not talking price -- Skycrest seems to be on par with their pricing in comparison to other practices I've used over the years; as well as, friends I've spoken with -- I'm talking about the quality of care, knowledge, compassion, and understanding.
