This USO is the tiniest facility I've been to and also has the worst hours. Their hours are unpredictable because they are reliant on volunteer hours (as with all USOs). This location should be open 8am to 4pm but may open/close earlier/later depending on volunteer availability, so the hours are more of a suggestion than fact. I don't know how the other USOs have been able to keep such successful outputs of volunteers, but this USO hasn't been able to achieve that. On top of that, they're also the tiniest USO that I've been to and the most minimal. There are reclining couches with a TV and some snacks/drinks, which is nice and a restroom that's not too far away. Again, I always appreciate USO for all the services rendered by volunteers and the generous donations. I took off points more so to have a fair assessment when comparing USOs in general.

Very historic General Aviation airport founded around 1916 and still active 100 years later. The…read moreoriginal gate still stands but is used for a mechanical workshop. The main part of the building and the air control tower were built in the 1930s and two gates were added to it around 2007-2008 but they maintained the original historical look as much as possible. Open to the public and a really historic place to tour but also a very functional GA airport for San Antonio. For small aircraft owners coming into town, they offer both self-service fuel fill-up as well full-service fuel up where they do it for you and tie your plane down to the run way. They also have a concierge type service where you can check in and they will arrange fueling and also arrange for a rental car to your destination if you need it. If you are flying in for a downtown event, it is only about 10-15 minutes from downtown via car. Long term hangar lease space for your aircraft is also available. They partner with nearby Palo Alto College for training new pilots. Alamo Helicopter Tours is also based out of this airport and they provide tours over downtown SA, the Hill Country, as well as point to point transportation. https://alamohelicoptertours.com/ They have a really nice pilot's lounge for those pilots who have to stay at the airport while their clients go to meetings or events in the city. Decent sized meeting rooms available for rent to anyone in the general public. One of the best features added back in 2016 is a local BBQ joint called The Big Bib. But that is a separate review. Even if you are not a pilot or a flyer, I encourage you to visit this place if you a San Antonio native. You really need to learn more about the history and the future plans for this place!

We had intended to fly back that Wednesday but when the weather turned bad, we had to get back to the hill country. We cancelled our Wednesday flight and booked on Vonlane that day, Monday. They were conveniently picking up passengers at the Galleria at the Hyatt on Sage Rd. The ride was great - my wife was able to work on her laptop until her battery ran low, by then pretty close to San Antonio. The reason for this review is not about the ride. Their coaches are first class so the ride is always great. In our haste to get out and get to the hill country, I forgot my leather hat where I sat. I realized that I forgot my hat while in an Uber car so I called Vonlane customer service. I told them about leaving my hat in the coach where I sat. The person I talked to was very responsive and she was going to check on it. The next day, I was told that they did find my hat and with the ice storm and everything, I could not reclaim my hat until today, Sunday! I was told that today would be a good day to pick it up so I did! The Vonlane coach was there, knocked on the door and told the person that answered that I was there to reclaim my hat. They said they had it and brought it to me! Of course, I gave a tip to the crew because I was glad to get a favorite hat back! Overall, the customer service of Vonlane went above and beyond what I thought it would be. I never thought I'd see my hat again but when they handed it to me today, it was wrapped in plastic with my name, phone number and other data to identify who I was. What a service! Thank you Vonlane!

Upon parking, there are several signs warning you to bring along your ticket. Fair play. What they DON'T warn you about is that you will be charged $17.00 for 47 minutes - still, that wasn't the worst part. We found the elevator lobby on our way back and used the kiosk. We scanned the original ticket, frowned at the $17, payed it like the champs we are, and pocketed the receipt. Meanwhile, between the two of us, someone disposed off/lost the original ticket with the scannable code. But we thought, no matter, we have a receipt showing we paid and the receipt has our license plate number, which caused us to fall into an entirely false sense of security. We attempted to exit in a timely fashion, but alas, the arm wouldn't raise. I had a recently graduated Airman in the car who needed to be back on base, so this was vexing. The kiosk at the gate apparently wanted to scan our original ticket again, even though we had to make the effort to walk into a lobby, find a kiosk, and pay. They knew our plate number. Why not just have us pay as we drive out, like any non-satanic parking garage? After frantically searching the car, I was forced to jump out and dig under the seats, while cars pulled up behind me. We ripped apart our wallets, my purse. the glove box, etc. i ran back into the lobby and looked in the trash. I had to walk back and explain to the cars behind me that I had paid, but there was a problem. A real fun and cool thing to have to do. Finally, an angel lady showed up and beckoned me over. She told me she's a remote employee and couldn't help me directly, but that there's a "help" button on the kiosk and if I click that, I will be connected to another angel who will raise the barrier after I read them the numbers on the receipt. (Phew!) After running to explain to another car what the hold-up was, I pressed the button and a not-so-angelic voice answered. Turd Ferguson told me that I needed to find the original ticket with the scannable code or I wasn't going anywhere!!!??? I told Turd that I had the receipt proving we paid WITH OUR LICENSE PLATE NUMBER and that I'd been advised by seraphim that it was viable. Turd doubled down and told me to check my wallet again and made other banal suggestions. I reminded him that I would never have used a "help" button and taken time to run up (and probably scare) other drivers to hip them to the ways of the Turd, if I hadn't already thoroughly searched my surroundings. It is hot in San Antonio. I was all dressed for cool, artsy strolling, but Turd didn't care. I had to work up a sweat and almost burst a vein before he finally acquiesced and let me just read the numbers, like the angel lady said I could do , and opened the gate. We paid $17 for 47 minutes and Turd made me sweat for another five. For sadistic amusement? Pettiness? Stupidity? Small wiener? Whatever the case, park somewhere else.
