I have never been compelled to write a review for an apartment despite living in several around the country, but I feel the need to save people misery where I can. First off there is mold, several kinds at elevated levels, we had it tested at our own expense. They will try to convince you there is no mold problem, but let me save you some steps, the building that our unit was in has a drainage problem and all of the apartments in that building have a mold problem. It is so bad that we had to throw our mattress away when we left (that we bought brand new the day we moved in) because we discovered mold growing on the bottom of it while we were moving out. It grew in windowsills, bathroom walls, all over the place. I was cleaning all the time to try to keep it contained. A neighbor even told us it was growing on her purse and shoes. Additionally there was mold in our hot water closet. When we moved in, we discovered that the Hot water tank was leaking and if the rust accumulation was any indication, had been doing so for quite some time, so the floor was covered in it. They did nothing to resolve it (expect spray bleach on it once) so we demanded they drastically shorten our lease. Which is the only act of mercy they showed us. Secondly there is well water, maybe this doesn't bother some but we weren't informed about the lack of city water. Maybe it's a lack of treatment, I don't know, but we found it slimy and smelly and never felt like we were ever actually getting clean. Also the water pressure is terrible, it took three times as long just to rinse off soap and shampoo. When I complained about it, maintenance looked at and agreed that it was terrible pressure but said it's a valve problem for the building "so unless someone else complains about it I can't do anything" Super helpful. The Neighbors, here you may get lucky because most of the people living there seem pleasant. Unfortunately for us we lived above trash. Even after we spoke with her about her constant blasting radio and screaming sex sessions at 5:30am which woke us up from a dead sleep, it continued. When we told Lee (property manager) about it she told us to "deal with it" Again helpful. Insulation, basically there is none. The single pane windows do not seal when you shut them and heat pours out of them. Our electric bill soared to $250 a month, and we were never warm. We had to set the heat at 80 just to maintain a temperature of 67 degrees. We had plenty of other issues; the dryer burning holes in our clothes, daily catching of mice, but this review is already getting pretty long. Hopefully this paints a clear picture of this place. If I could give zero, I would. If I could afford to move, I would. This place is a smoking community, meaning that tenants can smoke in their apartments and not open their windows to vent it. I've lived here for almost 4 years and was only given this information 4 months into our new downstairs neighbors moving in. No where in the lease does it say this is a smoking community. It only notates that smoking is not allowed in 'communal areas'. We kindly asked our neighbors to vent, or go outside when it is warmer, we're not monsters. Their response has been to smoke more with their windows shut, how kind. Each apartment comes with built in mold that is now your responsibility, and drafty windows so you don't even need to look out them to tell what the weather is like. PS-they will be too built up with moisture to see out of. Keep up with what the offered rent is, and what the landlord then tries to have you sign off on, she will 'accidentally' increase it because 'she forgot what apartment it was'. Where do I begin? 1.Moved into a unit with soft floors in the upstairs bathroom. It literally feels like i'm going to fall through the floor. Management said they are NOT going to fix it. 2. Sliding patio doors do not have screens. Management said they are NOT going to replace the screens. 3. There are no locks on the windows. Management said "deal with it." 4. Electrical problem in upstairs bathroom. No exaggeration, sparks where flying out of one of the switches. Management tried to "Sell" me, "That's Normal." You can't make this shyt up! 5. OMG Rats! Rats in the winter, and ants in the summer. Management said they were going to address it, guess what, they didn't 6. All the windows, as well as the sliding patio doors are original. Meaning they are well over 20 years old. In the winter I feel blistering cold drafts throughout the apartment. Did I mention heat is Electric $$$! 7. Interior doors, as well as closet doors falling off the hinges. Management will not replace or fix doors. 8. Nothing inside the apartment is energy efficient, remember all the utilities are ELECTRIC! 9. Walked outside one day to my neighbors house and saw fecal mater pouring out of a pipe near there front door. 10. Constant plumbing problems. Water is always getting turned off for some reason. Walls are paper thin, all utilities are electric, heat/air conditioning exits right through the walls and windows making electric bills enormous! You can hear everything your neighbors do and can smell everything they cook even not so pleasant stuff and let's not forget you can smell them smoking drugs...how awesome my 9 year old asking about a weird smell and it being the neighbors marijuana. The whole complex runs off of 1 well and the water pressure is AWEFUL! Water literally drizzles out of the faucets and sometimes there's no water at all, luckily if its summer time you are allowed to fill buckets up from the pool to flush toilets! The water also smells terrible like sewer from time to time. Mold grows phenomenally fast! I left a stroller on my covered front porch for a week and it was covered in mold. I have to wipe my window sills every 2 weeks with bleach as there is always mold growths. In the winter time maintenance doesn't maintain walkways or offer any assistance with snow removal except for very minor plow jobs by the car ports. Roads are maintained by the town of Ulster so thankfully that's done regularly. Rent goes up $25-$50 every year with lease renewal. The reason for 2 stars and the only positives are the pool in the summer, they allow pets, they have car ports and the convenient location. read more

Some good and some bad here. Quiet complex, pool for the summer, and carports for snow. Bad- apts are old, drafty, kitchens and baths old. You can hear all neighbors. Only 6 washing machine for the entire complex. Only one maintenence man. If the lifeguard does not show up, the pool is closed, and that happened several times this summer . Water is sulphur and we were never told about this prior to moving in. You can not drink it. I buy bottled water so that is a added expense. Water is treated with lots of chlorine which makes you feel slimey out of shower. My dishes do not get as clean either. Water pressure is not good. Very drafty by sliding doors. Heat bill was about $275.00 a month. Kitchen and bathrooms are very outdated. 70's style. There is a nice pool which has a lifeguard. Downsize is if lifeguard is late or sick. You don't know until you walk over all dressed for pool and see it is closed. Each apartment gets a carport which is nice. Place is very quiet. I will say you do not see and activity outside of anything inappropriate going on. Very safe. Not every apartment looks the same inside because people tend to do what they want as far as building things. My apartment has a whole wall of cabinets since prior tenants had them built. They are nice but do take up a lot of space in living area. They do offer storage units as well near the laundry room. They are not numbered in order and we had to find a vacant one and put our number on it. Make sure to save quarters for laundry. $1.75 to wash and $1.75 to dry. No coin machine in laundry area. I do hate that you have to walk outside in bad weather to laundry room. Some have put stackables in their apartment in closet downstairs. I didn't want to spend my money on that so I use laundry area. Some apartments have a storm door on front. This doesn't come with them but people put them on themselves. If you have one it is cause prior tenant had it installed. If it breaks they will not fix it. The apartments is nice but after seeing other places it is similar. I thought this place was better when I first visited it but since I have lived here since August I think I would rather live at Sunset Gardens which is in a better location. I am moving out because I am leaving Kingston but if I was staying in Kingston I still would have moved away from here. The hill ( Forrest Hill Rd ) is horrible in snow. We couldn't get up the hill the other night after trying for an hr. We had to park our car at Potter Bros and have a police officer drive us home. The next morning my husband had to walk down to get our car. Only 1 maintenance guy for the WHOLE complex. He is great but I feel over worked. Even for snow removal he is alone to shovel walkways. Lee manager is very nice but she too is over worked. She has to manage 2 properties.I used to py my rent online which was so nice and now after doing it that way for 6 months they want to charge me a $20 fee to do it online. So I drop a envelope in office door. I guess management company is getting cheaper. It is really hard to meet any neighbors since there is not a community room or anything to socialize. There is no fitness either. Everyone here kind of keeps to themselves. I look forward to where I am moving since they do have holiday parties, pool parties, etc in club house. Lastly walls are paper thin. I hear neighbor sneeze, and his music lol..Also cable wires are old. Time Warner said they can't do anything about them. They are run through the buildings. Our internet service cuts in and out, and you can not have satellite which they should allow since the cable sucks. read more

My family which includes my husband and two kids have moved to SkyTop apartments in May of 2014. Thought this would be a great experience with the managers mention of on site maintenance, pool, on site laundry, and carport. Now we are actively seeking to get out of here. Our ceiling flooded out that year Feb. 2014 and I'm currently looking at sheet rock and spackle still, while I have a toddle running around actively vacuuming the bits of unfinished spackle and paint chips off my carpet from the other walls. The move in day maintenance removed a closet door and still have never replaced ours. We have had numerous false complaints with proof of unfounded documents from the police department and management still have done nothing out this. Matter of fact management does nothing. I am pretty much being pushed out of my home the problem neighbor I'm dealing with has made false police reports against us, video tapes our apartment from his window who also has a sexual harassment charge from prior tenant is still here. They hired maintenance help who was also caught filming my child and I from his car because he stated he like watching me teach my child how to ride a bike is still an employee here. Both my back doors do not lock they are aware and there they sit unlocked. My child accidently put a small hole in the living room which turns out has a bees nest in it. Have never seen that before!!! When in attempt to respond to any letters from management I cant since she never answers the phone or calls back until weeks later. Usually statement is " do you know what my job entails". My electric bill is threw the roof matter of fact still paying off last years due to lack of insulation we have a towel in our front door to help with the draft. Please save yourself the hassle, the pool isn't worth it, closed half the time due to no life guard on duty. read more
