Not every flight school in the area offers this new, exciting, limited license and I am very thankful that Red Sky Aviation offers it. I had a few e-Mail conversations with Red Sky including speaking with the owner Bob. This past weekend my wife and I visited the flight school and I spoke with Laura who is the daughter of the owner. She was nice and helpful and made arrangements for me to speak with a former student and my prospective flight instructor Pete. I was so happy Red Sky quickly connected me both with their former student and flight instructor. A company that says what they will do and actually deliver are already leap years ahead of many. Pete my future flight instructor sounded great! We had a very nice phone conversation and he seems to fit my ideal profile of a teacher perfectly. I live near San Jose and while Livermore can be a Bay area traffic h*ll of a destination depending on the time of day, I am looking very forward to begin my training with Pete on the Aeronca Champion at Red Sky Aviation!

I highly recommend Red Sky Aviation!! Their rates are reasonable and their focus in on helping students achieve their goals. In my opinion, they are one of the best schools in the SF Bay Area.

The first thing the school did was try to shed any blame off themselves by suggesting/speculating intentional pilot actions. Their airplane that crashed, N5203H, was also previously totalled in 2016 but they kept flying it anyways. If you love life and care about your loved ones, I'd avoid this school. There are plenty of other schools that won't turn their back on you if you have an accident.

Understand that less than 20% of students actually achieve their PPL. The challenges are cost, availability of instructors and planes, weather, instructor objectives, personal availability, and other minor obstacles. Instruction quality can be both lacking or superior depending on who is teaching. If your goal is to get your PPL quickly, a flight school is a bad choice. Do some research before you decide. I didn't and I've spent over 4 years, $90K, and have had 5 instructors in pursuit of my PPL. If you're not in a rush and are just curious, it will work for you. It isn't easy and requires commitment. Get some guidance and explore the alternatives. Instructors have to complete your training and sign you off for your check ride. If they leave for better opportunities, you have to start over. At $300 and hour for rental and instructor cost, it gets expensive fast.

The instructors are top-notch -- highly skilled, professional, and genuinely invested in their students' success. The scheduling system is flexible and easy to use, which made it simple to plan lessons around a busy schedule. I have a full-time job with limited availability during the day, yet I could usually find a plane as early as the next day or the one after. Airplane availability has been excellent, allowing for consistent progress without delays. Throughout the process, I felt fully supported -- especially when navigating FAA paperwork, regulations, and other requirements that can be overwhelming for new pilots. I want to give a special shoutout to my instructor, Michael Hull, who has been exceptional. He's not only a fantastic teacher with deep aviation knowledge, but also a truly kind and encouraging person. He builds my confidence for the check ride in every lesson, and his clear, structured approach to both flight maneuvers and ground topics makes even the most complex areas easy to understand. Thank you, Michael!
