Last fall, I bought a 20 yr old house with a concrete driveway. This spring, some of the minor cracks in the driveway developed a mind of their own and left the 'minors'. Unfortunately, it took me a couple of stumbles from one ambitious crack to realize it needed to be addressed sooner rather than later. I got 4 assessments, including one estimate from a company specializing in asphalt work (a quick shout out for Rubens Asphalt -see separate review). All estimates covered the entire driveway plus a short sidewalk leading to the porch. I selected SlabJack Geotechnical for the package of services offered, a written bid that included line item costs, a written warranty, and good explanations (with links to website videos) describing the work. They were not the cheapest, but all slab-jack estimates were in the same ballpark. My considerations are generally weighted heavily to those who offer a warranty - it suggests the team and company are confident with their assessment skills, work and materials. I also value clear, itemized estimates that show the different costs (materials, labor), and how questions are handled. SlabJack Geotechnical team arrived on time, communicated well, put up with getting photographed during their work, and finished the same day. It turned out that a gap ('void') had developed under one section of the driveway, creating stress on the slabs. There were quite a few existing hairline cracks that got worse, and all existing cracks were affected once the slabs started moving during leveling. This led to the work to take a little longer than expected. I was relieved that there was no inclination to rush the process. They worked steadily, and filled and sealed the cracks after leveling. I received a clear debrief, including where and why there were points in the slabs that were not perfectly even. The work was held to the estimate provided. I am relieved that the work is finished, and am hopeful the entire driveway will remain stable. I am happy to recommend Slabjack Geotechnical for this kind of work - they were good about explaining the warranty, and remained responsive after the work was complete when I reached out with many questions about the multiple conditions I noted in the warranty document. Lessons learned: do get multiple estimates/bids; do ask questions and take photos; do expect to be treated with respect; do focus on local companies, but don't exclude reputable companies that are farther away if they cover the area and you need more estimates (confirm that estimates are free and any transportation costs are transparent). Check their websites or call to see their geographic coverage. Some companies will organize & schedule projects by location in order to minimize transportation costs. Be skeptical if a company rep is dismissive of your concerns or if they carelessly badmouth other companies. Even if someone worked in another company before - I believe gossip is a red flag. read more

My driveway had a large sunken area, several large cracks, and huge gaps where the 27 year old caulk had shriveled up. The crew arrived promptly as scheduled and completed the work in under 4 hours. They pumped foam under the into the top portion of my driveway, leveled the sunken area and caulked all the joints and cracks. They rubbed high quality sand into the new caulk to make it more compatible with my composite driveway, patio too. Of the the bids I got, they were the lowest. Our driveway and front walk were full of cracks and settled places, making it unattractive and dangerous. It was going to cost me 25k to get the area replaced. Our driveway was a mess. It was a real tripping hazard. I thought it probably could not be saved. I called Slabjack, they came out and repaired the drive . It was fantastic what they did. A few weeks later I had to call to have them tweak a couple of areas. They were so nice and came as soon as they were in our area. The employees are also very nice and very knowledgeable. When we purchased our home in a completely different climate (from the rainiest Seattle to desert of Tri-Cities) 7 years ago, we were excited to move from the wet side of Washington, and then thrilled that we didn't have any large maple trees nearby that dropped lots of wet maple leaves into our gutters. In fact, we didn't have any gutters! We thought that was awesome. Our soil is very silty, sandy and although we receive very little rain, when it does rain, the soil can really run. 3 years into our home ownership, we started to notice the concrete was starting to crack in our driveway, and some of our carpet had some toe-stubbing, un-level areas on the slab flooring. After adding gutters to our entire home, rerouting some downspouts and peeling back the carpet, we consulted a structural engineer. He confirmed that yes, our slab pieces had moved, but our foundation was solid (thank God). Our 2 options were to replace the concrete slabs, or to slab jack it. We got a slab jack estimate, then we got a complete concrete replacement estimate. After comparing, we went with slab jack, not because it was cheaper, but because we felt that whatever void we couldn't see under our driveway would be handled properly. When we scheduled, the quote we received was comprehensive, with pictures and estimates of amount of material. We completely understood what would be repaired as well as what our concrete would look like after our project was done. 2 professionals showed up on time, gave us the details on what would occur throughout the day, and proceeded to raise our concrete. We did end up having some overages, but they were conveyed to us upfront, along with the potential costs involved. There was a small 'paint' smell for the portion near our garage area, but that was gone the next morning. The second day they returned on time, sealed the joints & cleaned up. We are completely satisfied with the work they've done. We have worried about this for several years now, and finally feel like it's repaired. We appreciate the professional work they've done for us. If you have a nagging feeling about getting something like this repaired, don't wait. You'll feel better ripping the band-aid off and getting it done. read more
