WARNING! The art of Egon Schiele, and his disciples, is not for the faint of heart, conservative…read moreminded, or the prudish. You're going see nudity, in a creepy, not beautiful way, but somehow your eyes can't turn away. Cesky Krumlov is a small town, and on the outside this Art institute looked equally small...but its actually very large inside! The building is shockingly large inside, with 3 stories packed with art! Again, this isn't your typical art museum...be prepared to be shocked, wowed, disgusted, impressed, baffled, and mind blown. Those original early 20th century German Expressionists had some very unique perspectives on life. Can't describe this in words...so just look at my pictures I've posted...and I did not post the Rated R pics. 220CZK/$10 for entry, worth every penny for art lovers, or art likers such as myself.

Not what I expected but I came on free admission. Otherwise I would be disappointed that I did…read morenot get to see anything related to Schiele's work. Currently, there is a expressionist painter and sculptor/installation artist on display. The one section with Schiele's studio and memorabilia was closed. Check calendar before commiting.

Brewery or museum? The ages old question asked by sensible…read moretourists while planning travel itineraries. This place is a mixture of both... sort of. It's a beer museum! :) (Yay!!!) ... that doesn't serve beer. :( (womp, womp.) But it's actually still pretty cool... probably better if you can read the native language, though... but we still had fun. If you're really into brewing, you could spend 1.5-2 hours here perusing the many levels easy. If you're just there for the heck of it, 45 minutes it's probably good. Things to know: // It's not free, admission runs about the cost of what a movie would cost you. A fair price, I'd say. // It's more historic than novelty. // Not at all hipster-y like you'd expect. // It's set up kind of like a multi-level labyrinth with ups and downs at every wall so going through is never boring. // They have a whole big area at the end that's a children's playground with some beer-themed play things. Teachin' 'em young. Awesome. // SOME of the figures are animatronic and some are not. They bait you by showing you a bunch of mannequins that don't move, then BAM, you walk into a quiet room and all these robots start canoodling and making noises and drinking beer and it WILL scare the sh*t out of you, but once your heart stops beating out of your chest and your friends stop laughing at you, you'll appreciate the humor of it. // Has a lot of info about the town, the Czech Republic, and Europe in general, so even if you don't care about beer, you can enjoy the historic portions of the museum. // It's attached to a bar, so you can go get your booze fix after, should you so desire.

I came here and didn't quite understand what it was. We thought it was a store that sold vintage…read morebeer signs and souvenirs, based on the display window facing the street, but turns out it just a place that displays them... and other vintage housewares. You know, like a real museum. I know the sign says 'Muzeum', but you'd be surprised at how many places we walked in that weren't what their sign. Delis that were cafes. Apartments that were hotels. Trains that said they were going to specific destination at a specific time but then just decided they weren't going to anymore and that you can just shove your travel plans up your ass. Welcome to the Czech Republic... where nothing is as it seems. The place is small for the size that you'd expect a museum to be, but it's free and I cant' argue with that. If it's free, it's probably for me. Inside the layout is long, rectangular, and divided into 2 or 3 different open rooms, all displaying different vintage wares. One room had old, empty liquor bottles, the front is largely old beer signs, there was a display case with lots of different old-timey scales, lots of old type-writers, and quite a few retail furnishings from back in the day. There were a number of what would be considered racially insensitive signs advertising coconuts... or at least that's what we roughly translated it to, but I think because they're for historical purposes in a museum and obviously not the crown jewel of any display, that it's alright in a -- 'whoa, I can't believe anyone ever thought was okay.' sort of way. In the end, the place is free and the guy who runs the place is nice and smile-y. It's not a destination spot, and if you miss heading here it won't break your day, but it's a fine place to spend 3-7 minutes, and that's literally all the time you need to see everything.

Apparently since the medieval times Plzen had an elaborate set of underground passages, sometimes…read moreforming three overlapping levels in depth. The passages were dug mostly for storage, although water control and siege protection also played some part. A small part of these passages has been restored, even smaller part is currently accessible for organized tours with a tour guide, departing approximately once per hour. Tours are mostly in Czech; these can be used by non-Czech-speakers via the use of audioguides; few time a day the tours are held in English, German, and Russian. The cost of the tour is approximately $10, this includes a coupon for free (small) beer in the nearby restaurant. Expect walking for about 1 km in a hardhat provided by the tour, in temperatures reaching 55F, on occasionally wet - but not flooded - floors. The tunnels themselves are quite interesting due to their elaborate structure; the museum placed some artifacts into the niches previously used for the storage, so one would also learn a bit about the Plzen's history. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Plzen for some other reason.

Translates to 'Museum of Horrors' but it's not exactly a museum, nor horrific... more like a…read morestorage unit for all the larger leftover holiday displays from Party City and any Halloween outlet store. It took us a hot minute to find this place as it's located within and underneath Hotel Central on the cafe side. There's some creepy stuff, but the museum is definitely meant for small children, not adults, as we'd originally thought. Lucky for my friend and I, the nice woman at the counter only charged us the children's admission enter, which I think it was around $4 each, which for what he saw was def a bit steep, but my friend and I got a few jokes out how we got duped into coming here thinking it would actually be something cool and not a tiny tourist trap for tiny humans. We took our sweet time and I still think we were in and out, having seen and played with everything, in under 8 minutes. There's a small gift shop with little knick-knacks of things you'd find at a dollar store. Little rubber finger puppet monsters, single candy packs, etc. We walked through the 'horrors' part of the museum which has kind of a compartmentalized haunted house, only the only the thing that's scary is that it's dark, they have a fog machine, and your glasses and camera lens will fog up as soon as you reach the pit of the stairs. Full of dressed-up novelty skeletons and a 'spooky-ish' animatronic camel that I still don't understand, but Czech isn't my native language, so perhaps something was lost in translation. The rest of the museum is like a grandmother's attic filled with little toys and models and a mini play house and little theater room with hand puppets and coloring sheets on toddler picnic tables. I guess we should have known it was for kids from the gift shop, but for whatever reason, it just didn't register and then we felt like pedos going through when there was a family in the playroom (looking miserable) with their kids. Now knowing that this place is meant for kids, I think a 3-star is still pretty fair. The dark foggy area seemed like it would be way too scary for little kids, and the rest of the museum wouldn't have been much of anything for anyone over the age of 4 to look at. If you're in the area and looking to terrify and/or shut your toddler up for 30-minutes to 45 minutes (if they latch onto the coloring pages) and willing to for over the $4-$8 admission per person, this is your place. Also, it's a stone's throw from the Plzen tower, so if other members of your party are doing that climb, this might be a just fine place to hide out with kids.
