The main location was closed on the Saturday that I visited, so I went to the stall they have in the Passage. The service was quick and efficient, and my reliance on English was not a problem at all. One croquette was just under 3 euros, and it was handed to me piping hot. The outside was crispy and crunchy, and the inside was filled with a smooth mixture of what tasted like meat and potatoes. Overall, it was yummy and a good snack! I got it with the sauce they offered, which turned out to be a semi-mild mustard.

The place was busy so we figured that was a good sign. Its a butcher shop and on google it's named something different. The sandwiches were between 3-5 euros so it was really cheap! I forget what we ordered but it was SO.DELICIOUS. The lady who took our order spoke little English and apologized for it but we told her we didn't speak any Dutch so she was one up on us ;) Side note: There are amazing fried donuts and fritters right around the corner from this shop. If you take a left outside of the shop and then turn right it should be right there.

You are literally walking into history in this store because horse meat used to be a primary food source to the lower class in the Netherlands. When I first walked by this store, I thought they used the wrong clip-art for the sign and placed a horse in error of a cow. That wasn't the case. Some thoughts to prepare you: don't think happy thoughts - like black beauty, rocinante, or wild horses running free. Go to the zoo if you need that; this is not the time. Think lekker thoughts - this horse did not die in vain. You are about to embark on a culinary journey that will turn you into a horse-eating monster (in the eyes of some people). Also, make sure you know enough Dutch to place your order. English will not get you far here. They are open some weekdays and Saturday mornings. When you enter, you will be greeted by two lovely dames that will be happy to take your order. You should get as much huisgerookt "paardenwurst" as you can carry. If they have bacon (one of the only non-horse products in the store) - snatch that up fast. The other cuts of meat are extremely lean and a bit gamey (think between beef and venison).

I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. They have a variety of liver paste and they sell other peculiar items. I tried two types of salamis here, both had a unique and delicious smoked taste. One of the favorites here in the Netherlands is a salami that is slowly cooked by smoke at a specific temperature for one year or so. It has a raw appearance, however the meat is fully cooked by smoke and the process they are using. All sausages or salami are served with mustard the condiment of choice in the Netherlands.

The prices are okay, not low not high. The meat fresh and ample. After much research I've determined the difference in cuts of meat here in Holland. The beef is leaner and has less marbling. It makes me wonder if marbled meat is available here in Holland. I would pass Mabrouk multiple times, completely oblivious of what a a gem it is. I decided to wonder on in here out of curiousity, and loved everybit of it. My eyes lit up over so many of their products. The only downer about this market, it can get real tight in here. Never the less, Mabrouk has some great products worth checking out and the majority of the items are price reasonable. Surprisingly you will also find a few gluten-free products in here as well.

Their premade dishes, which vary on a daily basis, are really delicious too and an easy alternative to take out or a frozen dinner. If you're throwing a party or need a special cut of meat, don't hesitate to talk to them about special orders, they can get you just about everything. Their summer BBQ platters are beautiful, as are their 'gourmet-schotels' for raclette! They do a lot of other catering dishes too, with either meats you can easily prepare at home, or ready made hot dishes. I love their store now too. Some years ago they remodeled it, and it looks beautiful now. Clean, modern, luxurious. Only problem is the price, like another Yelper said: their prices are as high as their quality.
