It's a small shop that can get crowded at times, but that's probably because the locals are all in on the secret I wish someone told me when I first moved here. I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. They seem to have it all, and the things they do not, you might be very much able to order. You can have goose or duck rillette, homemade boudin noir, boudin blanc with truffles, English breakfast sausages, other types of sausages which names I do not remember, multiple pâtés, mousse du canard...And I haven't even started on the meat. I highly suggest you visit them. They even have pig legs, if you are fan of homemade aspic. The people who work there are super nice, some also have the famous French accent. They speak English and Dutch, so do not fear. You can pay cash or Dutch pin. Speaking of paying - the prices are very good. My only problem is that they are closed on Mondays and Sundays, and they are not open til late. Therefore, if you need something from there plan it well. I drove by De Pasteibakkerij and was surprised to see a 'butcher' in a quit street like this. The park my car a few streets away and walked to this place and was welcomed by the friendly people who own this place. 'What do you guys sell?', I asked and they showed me al their products. This place is about meat. They do all kinds of things but are mostly loved about their terrines (pates), of which their is lots of flavors and kinds to choose from. They also sell other kinds of meat, like French garlic sausages, boudin noir, boudin blanc, bacon and more. You go and see what they offer! There are also fresh eggs (35 cents an egg), wines, bread and more. Everything looks great and I really felt the love for their work in this place. You can only come on Friday or Saturday because the other days of the week the shop is closed and they are busy preparing orders for restaurants. Prices are not cheap but they are decent. This kind of good food is never cheap I think, and they are not more expensive than any other similar place. I will certainly be back to try more! So glad I found this place :) Amsterdam keeps surprising me everyday. In every street may be a new treasure spot hidden.

It was freaking awesome. I bought sausages, ham, terrines, rillet, and bread. They let me try some of the other terrine. The ham I still have to try tomorrow, but the rest was really top notch. If you want to make a nice meal on the weekend, or have fancy top quality rillets, or terrines I highly recommend this place. Forget about the anti-smoking fascist and his review. If these people are making food this good, they deserve to light up a cigarette in their own shop after hours. Get a grip people.

Slagerij Veldt is a traditional organic meat shop that caters to a generation of neighbors on the south-side. If you are very selective about what you eat, then I would suggest going with them. Everything is prepared healthy and biological. I do not have a problem with paying a little bit more for healthy meat. Especially, after seeing those frightful commercials about bad and inexpensive chicken and other meats being sold in chain grocery stores.
