The minute I called my spouse "my spouse," he took on a totally different demeanor than during our cordial introduction. He went as far as to tell me in no uncertain terms how off-put he was that I referred to my "spouse" that way because it was cold and distant (this is not verbatim because it has been over a few years). He did not take the time to understand what would cause a person to use that verbiage about the person she was married to, and our appointment quickly ended. Had Mr. Plumlee taken the time to find out that my ex was a serial philanderer, a textbook narcissist, a serial family deserter, a verbal abuser, an absent father and husband, a nasty alcoholic, and a scammer, I would like to think that he would have responded differently. What put my ex above the rest is the fact that when my oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer, he decided it would be a good time to jump ship (shut our business down and leave my daughter with no health coverage [she was an employee]) and move on with his life.
