I checked in and went to my room which was freezing. I tried the thermostat, and it didn't work at all (neither did the phone in the room). I went down to the desk and the manager came up, saw that nothing was working, and went and got me a key to another room and an upgrade to a suite. The suite is the same as a regular with an added couch and coffee table. I had the breakfast, which was standard for a hotel breakfast with the additions of warm cinnamon rolls, pancakes, and sausage and gravy. The staff was very accomodating.

They continue to make this bed up and offer it to customers - amazing. The lamp on the nightstand works, no it doesn't, yes it's back on, no it's off again. The toilet runs to refill every 34 seconds, I counted as it kept me up the first night. The security latch on the door is half missing - a danger nowadays. Overall the room is tired, broken handle on the desk, hair dryer doesn't work (but the built-in night light does). I shower but if you desire to bathe good luck, the drain stopper is missing. I asked to be put in another room but was told none were available. Choice properties in general seem to be on the decline. I've begun using IHG as my first go to. I didn't have that option on this trip.

A lot of things went wrong at this establishment; can't recommend it to others. Y should not have yelled and also her body language (hand on one hip, then arms crossed, then hand on the hip again) screamed out disrespect and anger; instead, she chose to not be polite, explain the situation quietly and respectfully. She was quite awful. Further, because of this incident, we wanted to check out as fast as possible, however, no one was at the front desk (nor available by calling from the room's phone), even though later they claimed they were there the whole time. Being that it was an anniversary trip we stayed in the Elk Horn Bank President's room with the beautiful balcony overlooking 10th Street. Oh my what a fun and very interesting step back into time. It was great. Such a gorgeous old southern mansion and it has been renovated and fixed so folks can enjoy old southern charm with modern conveniences to pamper us in the 21st century. We are waiting on breakfast now, yum yum, the smell is wafting throughout the house!! No one knows this but when I was younger, way way back, a lady that lived in the house, that used to be owned by the Stone Family, Mrs. Myers, took care of me in this house from when I was a baby till about 5 or 6 years old. She lived in a little apartment upstairs in what now is bedroom # 7, wow memories. Mrs. Myers lived up into her 100's before passing away. We had a fabulous time and will definitely be back!!

It holds the standard that most HIEs are supposed to hold. It's just starting to show its age, but it is still a comfortable hotel. The room kept a comfortable temperature, the bed was OK, but not great, and the water pressure was fine. The hotel is always clean. The internet connection was acceptable, but a bit spotty if you are trying to stream any video. The pool seems to always be closed, and while that doesn't matter much to me, it could be important to others. Service has always been good. Not great, but just above "OK".
