The camp host was very active throughout the day and gave great local recommendations. Negatives - you can't really see the river due to the grass and trees. It also says you can fish, which you can as long as you can make it down an incredibly steep embankment but there was not really a place to stand comfortably to fish and at least at site 5 there are quite a bit of rocks in the way. There was also a ton of little moths and gnats. Even with a fire the bugs made it unbearable to enjoy our time. Setting up and packing up was horrible. We understand bugs exist in nature but they were flying in our hair, mouth, nose, nothing worked to get rid of them. Also, the camp sites are just yards from a somewhat busy road. A few times people drove by and purposefully rev'd their engines. We could also hear a train in the distance going in the middle of the night. Maybe a different time of year would make all the difference regarding the annoying bugs but may is not it.

There are men and woman's restrooms, grills, fire pits, bonfire location, and even a pavilion that's able to be rented. There is even good WiFi, when in the WiFi zone. Everything is very clean and well tended to! Probably the cleanest campground we've ever been to. Mark, the owner, is very helpful, thorough, and takes great pride in Camp Cacapon. This would be the perfect location for a wedding, group camping trip or just a nice quiet getaway!

NOTE: There is NO WiFi at the cabins, only at the main lodge(you have to be inside the main lodge-to access the wifi- which closes at 8pm). To get from the lodge to the cabin we stayed at, the road was not well paved--it was bumpy and mostly rocks and unpaved terrain. We stayed at one of the cabins that is a five-minute walk or two-minute drive from the main lodge. The resort is a short drive from the small town and state park with hiking and mountain biking which is amazing Our cabin had a fire pit area, picnic table, porch with chairs, two bedrooms (one with two beds), two full bathrooms, a kitchen table, microwave, coffee machine, heater and AC, and a TV area with couches and chairs. Sadly they only provided us with 3 paper plates and cups, and plastic silverware, there was no room service who came to replenish our eating materials(as we thought there would be) so after one night, we had nothing to eat out of or with. Additionally there is no way to cook/make food, only a microwave to reheat with. The satellite TV service is spotty, and you can't sign into subscriptions. The people working at the front desk of the lodge were always very resourceful and kind. Unfortunately, the main lodge's pool and fitness center are only open for limited hours from 10am to 6pm. That was very frustrating because those were the hours of the day I was out mountain biking and hiking. The pool is decently heated and was neither too cold nor too hot. The jacuzzi wasn't hot at all--it's actually colder than the pool. There is a sauna there, but it wasn't open when we went. Right next to the lodge, there are extremely nice pickleball and tennis courts with provided equipment. Sadly, swimming in the lake wasn't allowed during our stay. The lodge property is decently large with a lot of greenery and hiking trails. I bet it would be very beautiful during the fall with fall foliage.

The hotel is cozy, with a nice pub on site and spa. it is also just steps away from the Berkeley Springs hot springs, along with the community pool and farmers market. On the latest stay, we got a room in the newer part of the building. It is the less expensive room option, but the room is very spacious. We prefer the older portion of the hotel, in the main building. But you can't go wrong with either spots. I'd recommend getting reservations in advance if hoping to eat on site. The pub has limited seating options. But its well worth the stop.

The staff was very accommodating when I had to change my reservation, and were all wonderful in-person, too. We ate dinner at the restaurant, which had good home-cooked food, but the young waiter needs training; he came over when we were still eating and asked what we thought about dessert. We didn't end up going back because there are so many other dining options in the town or nearby, but it's definitely a plus to have a restaurant on-site when traveling with a dog.

First time we have been able to go away for our anniversary-ever. The cabin is beautiful, secluded and wonderfully stocked and clean. This is our 6th time renting from this company so we knew what to expect. However, this is the first time we had a problem. The hot tub did not work. It would not heat. Gary, from maintenance was wonderful and came and tried to fix it but it needed parts he could not get over a weekend. We were extremely disappointed because this was a big reason we came here and paid extra was to have a hot tub. Ok, things break. Biggest issue for me though was the lack of communication. First, when Steph, the owner did contact me it was through email, which I did not check because I am on vacation and they have my number. Then when she did actually call-the day after we reported the issue, she suggested we could use the cold hot tub. Also, the problem was electrical so, no not going to sit in a cold hot tub full of water with an electrical problem. She proceeded to then tell us that she would contact us later that day about a discount. That was yesterday morning, it is now 11 pm the next day and we are leaving tomorrow. I called her this morning, had to leave a voicemail, requested a call or even a text rather than an email to get an update on repairs and to discuss that discount. No call, no text. Zero communication. I cannot begin to express how utterly disappointed I am not only because I did not get to soak in a hot tub for 3 days like I planned, but on top of that the absolute lack of communication and complete disregard for us. She did not even ever say she was sorry this happened. Not once. Very bitterly disappointed. I still gave three stars because thanks to Ashley, the cabin is wonderfully clean and because Gary really made an effort to correct the problem, coming out on his weekend three times. We were very grateful for his efforts.

We really enjoyed ourselves. We played games and watched Netflix while indoors. There is no cable but the phone and internet service worked out great throughout our whole stay. This can be for a total of nine people. We stayed a total of three nights. FYI while using the gas grill on the porch. Please make sure the kitchen door remains shut. The smoke detector went off and scared my poor dog. He was shaking because the lady's voice was loud and we couldn't get it to shut off. It finally did but that was a bit much. Yes l want to be safe but it was the smoke from the grill. Besides that we had a great time and definitely plan on returning next year. Berkeley Springs is a beautiful area with the Cacapon State park a short distance away. This also had an extra bonus a basement with the washer and dryer and tv. Daybed and my son said it was quite comfortable down there. Can't wait to return!

The camp counselors are wonderful with the kids. Very patient and caring. They interact with the kids and get them involved which is great. During the year you can also attend mother/father and son/daughter weekend camps. They do have a sponsorship program if you need help with the camp cost. It is based on approval and first come basis. So apply early. If you want to send your child to camp, you should definitely look into Joy El!!
