There are an adorable, young married couple. I wanted to buy everything but I'm trying to downsize so I was there to sell. They've only been open a few weeks but already have a great assortment. The shop is curated with mid-century modern and modern furniture, art and records, plus clothes like vintage Hawkeye apparel, hats and jerseys. Fun fact: The owners know the team behind FindFurnish in Minneapolis, a similar store that has made trips down to Iowa City to buy some of their pieces before selling them at much higher, big-city prices. After hearing about a 20% off Alessi sale at Design Ranch, I decided to check it out. The shop…read morereally is off the main drag so it requires a special trip. The shop is small but filled with all sorts of fun furniture and household items. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and offered to help out with anything I needed. One of the staff informed me that any Alessi item could be ordered through the shop and purchased at the sale discount. Not a bad deal! If only I had more money to spend!

When this spot popped up (last year, I think) I was super excited because it's right across the street from Kalona Brewing Company which makes it easy to fit into a typical trip. Even though a lot of the shops in town are a little more traditional, The Shop stands out because they have a nice mix of old and new items, and a lot of their furniture has been refinished or repainted to fit in with a more modern decor without the elbow grease a take-home project requires. I've purchased several things here - from signage, to dried flowers to small furniture - and I've been pleased with each purchase.
