The guy working has very little patience with children. $15 per person for Half an hour and he doesn't really help or assist in teaching or managing the track in anyway. If you aren't there with multiple adults to help teach the kids and retrieve the cars, good luck to you. My boys and I have been going to Slot Car Junction for the past 7 or 8 years. In that time, the business moved to a bigger location and built a much bigger track. Whenever we go, we have an absolute blast. Jeff & Kathy, the owners, are very nice and accommodating, and Jeff is a wizard fixing/modifying cars. We usually bring an extra kid (one of my son's friends, and the event ends up being what they call "an extravaganza." We all have fun. This is a pretty inexpensive hobby, and our "go to" on rainy or snowy days. It also brings me back to the time when my Dad would take me slot car racing 45 years ago. The only thing that has changed is that the cars are a lot faster now-- which is really fun. We recommend renting some track time and some cars. If you like it, buy a couple of cars from Jeff and for $20 (2 people for a 1/2 hour), it makes for a very fun afternoon. Can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

I'm from out of town and work locally. Wanted to find a cool hobby to do while here in Maine. This place is great! Jeff, the slot car guy, was very accommodating and kind to me. I bought a car, and wanted to immediately start buying uneccesary accessories. Jeff just told me to have fun with it first. The track is huge and has a lap counter . And track time is reasonably priced. I have a great time when I go there and reccomend it to anyone looking for something cool to do. We arrived and were the only two people in the store. We paid our $15.00 per person for a half our of track time. We picked our cars, which were loaners. We were showed how to put them on the track, and then left alone. They claim they can time you and you can race. When I asked they said they would, but they were too busy working on a car. They were running it while we used our track time. My daughter kept asking when we were going to race. I asked another question but really felt like I was putting them out. When they came over, I was thinking they were going to start the race clock for us. They never started the clock, they just advised us our time was up. Then as we were leaving, they asked who won. Not a clue who won, we just drove the junky old slot cars they have. Then we're told our time was up. (One of the cars kept stopping in the same place on the track. How do you race when a car gets stuck on the track). We will not return. So disappointed. read more

The best attraction at this place is the slot car tracks. Not to much can be said about the supposedly great toy selection. You wont find many things for a young child to play with. Most toys seem to be European and expensive. This is not a child's store. The slot car tracks are the main attraction. You can rent cars and time on the track for $15 for an half hour. Twice the value I would put on it. Other reviews complain about poor customer relations and I would believe them. I purchased a $80 slot car from them to join their racing event.. A week later I needed to replace a few lost screws for it. Not only did they not have them, they would not even consider letting me have some used ones that he had. I found the owner rude and uncaring to me as a customer. I had to find them elsewhere. This was after I paid for the car and I had paid $125 to join the racing series. Then in practice I broke the car and he had no replacement parts. He said "I can't stock parts for all these cars". It seems he has no replacement parts for these cars at all. Again I had to go elsewhere for parts. If your looking to go slot car racing I would strongly recommend you do not do it here. I'm an experienced slot car racer and take pride in running by the rules. Being so experienced in racing and tuning cars. I was winning alot. I spent time coaching other drivers and providing tune up tips. As the second series of racing started up the owner started accusing me of cheating. Blamed it on other drivers complaining to him. He told me I couldn't race the box stock car I had just won from him. He wanted me to buy another car from him and leave it at the track between races so I could not work on it at home. I refused as other drivers were allowed to race their cars as they brought them in. He then said he would take my car and give me a new one to race but I had to leave it at the track. I went along with it. The car stayed at the track and I did all my work on it there. After two weeks of racing nothing changed I was still winning. As I left that night after racing I looked back in and saw him running my car down the track. When I went back to practice later in the week I found my car was having a problem sticking to the track. It seemed like the motor magnet was to strong it and was causing the car to stick to the track. The owner also at that time seemed to have a very poor and rude attitude. He had a problem with me but refused to talk to me about it. His altitude was so bad that I decided to quit racing and took my car and left. I went back two weeks later to see if I could find out what his problem was. This is when the owner lost it The owner accused me of cheating by magnetizing my motor by placing it close another car's motor . Thereby altering or increasing my cars motor magnet strength. When I disputed that I did not cheat and tried to explain magnetic principals. He became frustrated and admitted he had altered my car's motor magnetic field (he had sabotaged my car) Then he lost it and went off on a delusional rant accusing me cheating unseen if front of him. He made up such a wild story of events involving me and other people. That I knew trying to communicate with him as an adult was useless. His rant was so full of untruths and so easily composed the way it flowed, the way it was said, it would it fit the profile of someone that I would think was a pathological read more
