We've tried a couple of cafés in the area but this is by far the best. The decor is what it is, nothing fancy but pleasant enough. Having said that, as far as cafés go in the South London area, it's about as good as you get. A nice big picture of the Crystals is always a bonus too. :-) The food is great value for money with very generous portions. The quality of the food is also excellent. The service is always delivered with a smile and you're generally given a "good luck" for the game which is a nice touch. Another thing worth mentioning is the cleanliness of the place. You can go in to some cafés and come out feeling dirtier than you went in. But The Delite café sticks to its name. The food, despite being unhealthy, never feels as such due to its lack of grease. The other cafés in the area seem to get busier so I was reluctant to write this review in the fear that people might transfer and take up our seats but it's well worthy of the recognition. I chose the Soup of the Day with bread (mixed veg), a chicken and leak pie with salad, and a juice. The soup was absolutely gorgeous and not too hot. It was a mix of carrot and parsnip and other beauty's and was a sweet and much needed pick me up. The pie, although very small, was jam packed with chunks of good quality chicken breast, and came with a really fresh side salad. It was just what I needed and filled me up well. This, along with my companions salmon and wild rice salad with juice came to just £20 all together. If you are planning on a special visit the restaurant would be a much better choice as the cafe is more of a canteen and it feels slightly rushed.

We did struggle to get our waitress's attention again as we tried to get some water for the table, fortunately another member of staff saw us and provided for us. When we were asked if everything was ok I did point this out along with the fact that the sweet potato fires were, at best, tepid. The staff member seemed to be a bit more senior and was very good, not only did she take our drinks off the bill she also provided new and much hotter sweet potato fries. The food had some spice to it which was good as some of these Caribbean themed places lack a bit of heat in their food. Formerly a bank, the 1890's exterior is a dignified example of 'banker's classical' architecture, and the inside is spacious with wood panelling, high ceilings and an imposing staircase leading to an upstairs function-room. As you'd expect for a town centre pub, it has a wide range of clientele, though is reasonably quiet most lunchtimes.
